Day 42: Ecothrive Living Organic Soil mini review:
After the retraining and clear out , all is looking green and very pleasant. They are now in a good environment with more than enough light to complete the harvest with little or no issues to deal with.

I am able to lower the RH another level when needed for later flowering so should be no bud rot or nasties to eat up my yield and buds. I am still working with passive exhausting as not using the extractor so far but the plan is in process to start it now. I have been using an exhale bag so wanted to keep as much co2 added as possible for the veg period , now we are on the way with flowering in the main , it's time to freshen their air more.
My initial intention of a side by side has not been forgotten at all and I am now able to clearly start making clear observations and thoughts.
There is no doubt that the 4 ecothrive l.o.s girls are way ahead of the pack. They have been only given water for the past week or so with the amendments added as needed time wise. Now the soil is clearly active , I am stunned. The growth below the plants is brilliant with a nice layer of green, low cover from a few different plants ?. I only allow them a little height then pull them up for mulching again but this system is a joy to see working. The initial meadowgrass mulch had me worried about high N after reading Emmys comme ts a while back on making compost but it was animal bedding which seems to have worked well. My fears of over watering are far less based in lack of experience at least now and I can see how lifting is a very good indicator of their needs. Thanks Emilya.
The soil itself is clearly giving them plenty of good edible nutes as their growth rate has been consistent and fast compared to the coco/MC pots at 20L. My concerns on pot size being the reason for the difference are still alive and kicking but I am more inclined to believe it isnt root space that is making the noticable size distance.Heres a couple of examples of the same strain in the different media.

The size difference is clear , even with the Mc , which I am loving btw, the LOS is killing it. I am kicking myself for missing putting 4 in bigger coco pots like the LOS for a better " control" and I wouldn't be second guessing the reasons for this. The phenos will always play a factor too, so the using 3 of each strain has at least given me some chance of a control.
What this now means is anyone's guess.lol I am hoping to see Emilya nailing this with the MC/los grow she is pioneering as I type this. watching that with a real Interest.
As for the branded LOS itself and the amendments. I am so sold and will be keeping them going no matter. They will be no-till for life soil and will be used in every grow. I am amazed at the obvious root movement through the soil based on their footprints compared to the coco although the smaller pots are now showing root tips to air prune part way up the pots.
I have been doing regular biosys teas and have also used the eco life cycle for a flowering boost as a top dress at 30ml per pot(very nice looking mix of goodies in there too. ) It waters in very easily and with the tea to help should give them lots of PK to get going with when they need it.

Welcome aboard the fun grow coaster ride. Hands and feet in the cars at all times and the louder you scream the faster we go !!.

It seems like an eternity since my last harvest ( sept) and I have been cod blocked to get this up and running again with council repairs and cancelled jobs now giving me the chance to get it on again for a Christmas harvest. I had planned on a total rebuild but their cancellation has that on hold and a temporary room rebuild has had to be the order of the day. I have managed to build an insulated box loft but my plan to use the ex tent as another layer ( cut to measure) will wait till I can rebuild after the works have finally been done.

so enough pre waffle , how about the info.
STRAINS: 12 fast buds autos with 4 each of LSD-25 , Smoothie , Bluedreamatic and BlackBerry. I have a green crack seed that is doing nothing so far so it looks like 12 it is.
20191027_232731.jpg

MEDIUM: 3 of each strain in 20L fabric Coco pots with Ecothrive Charge and Shogun Coco , Silicon , sumo boost , PK warrior and finishing on Dragon Force .

1 of each strain in 37L fabric pots with New Ecothrive Living Organic soil and amendments Charge , Biosys ( tea), Life cycle and Charge.

I have used a few worms in the pots too to aid with the breaking down of waste ect.. I am hoping to continue using the LOS in a bigger bed ( 200L) if successful and as amazing as I expect it to be. I am also composting my own mix to add to it as time passes and more worms to the roots once I have been hunting !. I have avoided soils forever and been a stalwart coco/hydro/nft user for decades but this stuff has me down the rabbit hole with the processes and benefits so here goes.

LIGHTS: 2xMars Hydro full spectrum TSL-2000's ( 300w draw each) and a new Mars Hydro full spectrum SP250 ( 230w draw). This will give me a flowering canopy of around 7ft x 4ft hopefully with great penetration for those solid , stone nugs.

FANS: 1 KVh 6inch exhaust for smells -timed exhausting.
4inch duct fan bringing fresh air from roof eaves.
1 Tower fan , 1x 15in room fan , 2 x 5in ram air clip on fans
Exhale C02 Bag
dessicant dehumidifier.

To date : I decided to start germination on Monday 28th Oct after staring at these great packages from a generous gift from them months ago. I have been dying to get an autos grow under my belt. I didnt soak the seeds at all but did soak and shake the root riot plugs before placing each seed in them about halfway down the seed hole. I have found these plugs to give me my best sucess rate when used like this. I ensured they were wet enough to penetrate the seed casings for the first night and allowed them to dry a little before I gave them a few ml each again the following night.
20191028_010154.jpg

I had the first shows above the plugs on the morning of day 3 and now at the end of day 5 after a little bit of helmet removal surgery to a few and all 12 have got their first true leaves forming and praying to the light.
20191101_163959.jpg
I am only using the sp250 at 24inches to get them moving before I pot them up in the morning to their final pots.
20191101_170931.jpg
Their roots are well out of the plugs now so i dont want to hold them back and damage any of them.
I have used a layer of coco on top of the pots to allow them to adjust before they get busy in the Los and coco nutes too.

TRAINING: I am hoping I can quadline them as they grow and am also considering minimal cuts and bending the 1st main instead of any toppings , any advice more than welcome here !!!. never done autos so help is appreciated guys ( and Gals , if offended to be considered as a friendly non gender specific term ! heehee).
I want to start by saying I know how scarily busy most of you are here but I would feel bad if I didnt at least invite you in for some of the ride with me. If I forget anyone please dont be offended ( or relieved !!!.lol ) Any advice , humour , comments ect.. ( but no dog shit on your shoes please!!!) are more than welcome , as are any new visitors , inquistitors or fashizzishtas. Pull up a chair and shoot the breeze.......
@ProfessorFlora @MrSauga @Emilya @Preston9mm @InTheShed @Peter Green @Virgin ground @Heavenly Hybrid @Pennywise @DonkeyDick @carcass @N420 @irie lion @Dutchman1990 , sorry if I missed anyone. No pressure folks , even a polite middle finger is welcome ( not detached @MrSauga !!!!). Have a green day all
peace and love
Ahoy Ganja,
planning to spongebob a bit of your know how with some slow reading beginning here. no dog poop on shoes, just checked. do you mind the quiet company? promise not to ask too much while learning how to tend to my private plants (they are not a part of my silly experimental studies).

Welcome aboard mate. anytime you fancy a pop in your seat will be warm and the eggnog smooth. Pick away mate and make as much noise as you feel like . I have kids so any distraction for their noise is like angels singing. lol
Lol, no silliness in experimental either mate. we find so much out from screw ups here it is shocking. Broken stems led to supercropping and fat node making too. We are even reinventing the wheel by being amazed we can put nature back together in a grow with supersoil after an industry had dismantled it into salts and water to sell us back and mediums designed to pass water through !!!. There are some brilliant pioneers around , whos to say you wont be a historical figure from a mistake or tweak. cannot fault you . Normal grows are our mainstay but we all secretly try to be the new Yoda at home on our girls.lol
hope we can keep you entertained and that you feel able to add your thoughts. We have a friendly bunch of misfits that are not allowed in most other forums and sites and to be honest would probably only be allowed out with carers too. Enjoy your stay and visit whenever you feel like it matey. door is a revolving one.

Day 43 : So we are beginning week 7 and the BlackBerry are looking the most advanced at this point and are also an 8 week seed to harvest strain!. I dont think this will be their second to last week at all judging by their progress and growth point. I am hoping to be proved very wrong and have a christmas crop to get at.lol
It does seem that 2 weeks left and the speed of their changes they could throw me a bone and go mad so let's see. The smoothie is only just really showing young looking pistil growth so I expect them to hit their stretch time anytime now too 1# and #2 are further ahead than #3 but this seems to be the case with the same # on the blackberry too. The coco girls are certainly flowering later than their counterparts in LOS so it will be interesting to see finish times at the end of harvest among the strains , mediums ect.. They have bushed back up again very fast so I will be going in again after they have formed a few more bud sets and stretch a little. Working on the premise of weeks vegging before flowers show true , being equal to the remaining flowering time left so 5-6 weeks flowering time for most and another 6 for a couple of the slower flowerers. I am sure I read that somewhere here. come on auto guys , some knowledge appreciated here from them that do and not a seed site ?. @farside05 and those amazing Bluedreamatic must have an answer here ?.

At least in my experience, if you get them off to a fast start, you'll see sex around day 21, flowering starting day 28, and most of the Fastbuds strains I did finished day 72-76ish.

Thanks mate this is what I needed for some clarity. trying to suss it based on the breeders sites info is always a guessing game.lol
I do think the BlackBerry will possibly be the 60 days ish looking at her now. She is billed as a very quick finish at 8 weeks seed to harvest but the longer time for others makes sense. a few have very young looking buds starting but the BlackBerry are just buds on stalks already joining up.
Thanks Farside.

Hey @Ganjagrandaddy ...

I'm bouncing around 420 right now reading journals and trying to pick up tips on Mega Crop ... so I will follow along ...

So far so good in flower ... this is the fun part ... although I find the plants can be a bit sensitive around week 4 of flower ...

Hopefully the research everyone is doing with MC will help us feed better and keep the plants healthy ...

Looks like I'm gonna be reading some of @farside05 's journals too this week ...

Alright ... let's finish these plants strong and with tons of potent trichomes ... :)

welcome along SQ always a seat at the cookout matey. I am loving the MC . seeing how well it works on colour alone gives a good indication of how it benefits over anything I have used in over 20 years tbh. Having converted to organics for this run and watching the rise in MC , I was frustrated to see the results of it agyer shellingnout for the LOS ect... however , seeing Emilya using it with the added amendments of their boosts too with living soil had me sold.lol I am not using it with the los but the coco girls are so beautifully coloured up now with sun grabbing greens that their bursts of growth are well supported by it. Bloody good stuff.lol Will keep my head up for week 4 flower now , thank you. would this be the point to add an additional pk product maybe . I have V2.5 so all the amendments were added from my reading. Might be a case of v1 and v2 having the issue . I know the improvement added to them was to avoid issues from previous versions that users had bought up. hopefully the week 4 flop may have been why they added the bud explosion. ?. Any comments appreciated and welcome along the way bud. enjoy your stay.

over to 66 it is then.lol I think quite a few of us are on your fan list now mate.lol Move over Donald , not sure how Mr Sauga will look as first lady though , not with them feet , Mick Obama had the big feet and hands too and he got away with it ! for a while!!!!.

That was superb. Very nicely put together. I learned stuff and I’m a complete donkey!
I’ve got a handle on the chelation thing now. Can’t wait to give it go. I watched my 10kg board a flight from there to here today on the tracker wotsit.
Cheers :peace:

have to agree , it is good to actually understand some of the science now and farside is certainly able to talk "mathelise" with Mr Sauga and leave me thinking I am having a brain haemorrhage and losing the plot. Thanks again farside. that needs to be a sticky thread for sure.

Day 45 (week 2 flowering ) I am not sure how long I can keep my defol fingers at bay now. Seeing how quickly they have filled back out again has me Andy again. There are plenty of budsites getting the light but a good few tucked away in the smaller regions. I am tempted to do it but wont until another week at least !. Fed them.last night on the 13.5g. I have noticed a slight tip burn an a couple so I will have to be a little stricter with my measurements. Reading Farsides post I may use a water wash through to reset a little maybe ?. I wont mess with them now they are looking so good . Few are still showing very early flowers and nowhere near as formed as others , even from the same strain so I expect a few pheno differences.
Heres a few quick pics of bushy jungle.

Thanks for the heads-up! I started reading your journal yesterday ... and liked the tips on the first page ...

I was actually thinking about what you're doing because I like to document my "lessons learned" but it takes up a lot of room though ...

So I'm thinking about a general (salute) thread with links on the first page to supporting threads like "tips", "technical articles" and "environment details" ...

I'll try that in my January grow and see if I can get myself better organized this time, ... because I like to track a lot of info ...

What are people's thoughts on Perpetual vs Individual Grow journals here?

Alright ... ttyl

Nice ... I think I'm gonna enjoy this cookout ... :)

My only issue so far with MC is I like more Nitrogen in my plants and a darker green ... but we'll see ... maybe the dark green isn't as healthy ... and verdant green is the best for growing ...

What are people's thoughts on Perpetual vs Individual Grow journals here?

I did quite a few individual journals before going to a perpetual. My reasons why 1) It's easier for your followers. They aren't having to find your new journal every 3-4 months. You'll keep more subscribers and have a more active thread since you won't be loosing people along the way. 2) I found I was repeating a lot of information, thread to thread. 3) Since there's no blog feature on the site anymore, it's an easy way to store your articles etc in one place and then bookmark them.
