Far East Buds 1st DWC Grow

Hey you might already know this but incase you don't I just found a really cool article about mites -predatory mites.

Phytoseiulus - Wikipedia

Phytoseiulus is a genus of mites in the Phytoseiidae family.[1] A predatory mite this is the most frequently used mite predator to control two-spotted spider mites in greenhouses and outdoor crops grown in mild environments. Adult females are approximately 0.5 mm long, reddish in color, pear shaped and active at room temperature, Immatures & males are smaller and lighter in color. Eggs are oblong. About 80% are females. At optimum temperatures Phytoseiidae can develop from egg to adult in 7 days and live for up to 1 month. A well-fed female will lay about 50 eggs in her lifetime. Prey consumption is up to 7 adult spider mites or 20 eggs per day.

How cool is that? You can use mites to kill mites.

I've debated lady bugs but the problem with them for me.. I use to live in a house that every fall hundreds and hundreds would attack the house. trying to get in... I'd vacuum them for ten minutes every night.... for like a month straight... then all winter i'd find them in odd places dead...not a big fan of them. hehe

I hope to just run a sterile setup rather than live... Clean clean on the next one... First grow.. Learned a ton. hopefully 2 will far exceed my first grow... not complaining so far though...

Ahhh I see I see. I'd take that risk as well! :welldone:

Sweet Sue has talked to me a little about harvest washing and I definitely will give it a try since I sprayed them .. Everything she said to me makes sense.. and sorta a little dusty.. basement grow. Gotta paint and stuff in between next cycle ;)

Can I skip forward a week or two on this one?

8-30-2015 Flower day 47

Another day another pistil bloom!

Start with the vitals!
PH 5.70
PPM 520
HUM 63-69
Temp 71-76
Humidity is still higher than I like... So I realize that in the new set up the dehumidifier will have to be in the room...
This means stay tuned for the modification of it. I need it to blow the hot air out after.... probably just some cardboard and duct tape... into a 6 inch vent. lol

Ok let's get some photo's up

The cola's are definitely filling out and the pistils still popping out all over... No signs today that she is finishing... I guess I'll check again tomorrow ;)

I found some mites in my veg tent and mighty washed them all real good in there... Thus I searched this baby and didn't see any...I'll check more and more ... and maybe some more as I have been doing it.... Think that is enough or should I do more?

Looks like I am going to harvest soon.... As soon as I have two of my veg clones ready I want to flower them even if they are still a little small...but not neccesary small. just when they look ready.
The goal is perpetual on 3-4 week cycles so the next 2 will be 3-4 behind that...so on and so forth... more on this in my perpetual grow below or I post the data to blog ...

Anyway back to check on stuff and turn light back on in veg.... wash it all down foliate spray to get wash and stuff off... at least veg tent I can spray alot with water spray...I am not even worried in the slightest to spray neem or npk on them in veg other than to keep it out of Res...

It for now

More is always better when it comes to mites. At this point I would just be diligent hunting for them on her and wipe the leaf with your fingers if you think you've found a couple to keep their numbers down until harvest in a week or so.

She'll make it!

Thanks for the encouragement OMU...!!!:high-five:

I don't want to harvest her too early .. so I'll probably give her fresh stuff on tuesday... no nutes really...just additives...

If you drop the nutes from the last fresh batch does this cause pistils to change faster because they pull more sugars? Not related? Is there a way to fast finish a plant?

I'll wait a week or so.. longer if she looks like it will be worth it.. but today would be worth it ..hehe ....but as long as my veg plants don't get too big.. Plus I am excited to get this thing cleaned up and restarted with more knowledge and ideas!

8-31-2015 Flower day 48

Vitals
PPM 465
PH 5.95 temp
70-79
Humid 63-69

Didn't spend as much time in the grow room tonight... Not much to do... Look for bugs.. good so far...
didn't see any in the veg tent either.

The girl is looking good... like an aged lady who spent too much time in the sun... She was a fine lady if she had just used the right sun tan lotion she wouldn't be all dry and cracked. But hey she is still all good on the inside and hopeful sweet and Kind!

All kidding aside... ;)
Fan leaves are back to being dry...week 7 tomorrow so this journey based on a 8 week strain would be coming to an end soon ..... but
More pistils again today... I think due to the lay out of the buds... some are developing at different rates. I could partial harvest when the time comes and let the others finish... but nah....

Fresh water tomorrow... no nutes just sugary stuff for this one... ok maybe a tiny bit...

Getting lazy on the pics but still usually daily. Lets hope I see some big fattening and tric's changing up this week! Hope to harvest next weekend or shortly after but another week I guess would be ok if worth it.

Guess thats it for now

Your plant can make it! Lots of green left and shiny too. The buds should plump up more I am sure! Don't chop too soon!

Vlad

Thanks Vlad ..

I want to but I don't ... need to reset... as you know ...

but yah it can double or triple in the next week or two in yield if I am patient... just dropping dsome of the harshies I have been adding and letting her eat up the leaves..

I only plan on flushing for a week.. but if it takes two for the plant to finish I am ok with it. Some people flush that long anyway... It just won't have nutes so it should start pulling from the leaves... correct me if I am wrong...
hehe

Thanks for looking bro

I believe long flush is for soil. In hydro you could flush in less than 72 hours. The most important part most misunderstood is the drying and curing. I have been drying for 4 days in the dark, and I ripped off some wimpy bud from the base and smoked it. Ash was white. White ash is what you want, and a burn that doesn´t extinguish too soon. But I was just sampling a tiny piece. Now it's off to the cure phase, that way I will get a smooth smoke of high quality.

My plant became sick because of my own errors during flower and she never fully recovered. The grow needs to be perfect before doing the flip to 12/12. I will try to be extra careful on my next grow.

Are you thinking of launching a new hydro grow after this one? Practice makes perfect my friend!

Vlad

Yah I only hoped for a week flush... rather not see it go two with out nutes... I am sure I will put some in now and the next change would be week 8 which means i could pull trigger within a few days anytime... i have a cheap 60x-100x scope coming this week.. I'll see the tric's too .. maybe that will help lean me when...

Gratz on the white ash.. yes clean flush is what I heard from that.. Cure will make it smooth...

I know cure and drying takes a lot of the harsh out but I was under the impression it is quicker cure etc if good flush.

Nice Talking bro

Made it to Week 7!

9-1-2015 Week 7 Flower Day 49!

So today is water change day!
And... I decided screw it no nutes...Bud Candy and cal mag only...ph'd it and in it went
I ran 10 gallons through the pot of tap water before refilling...
Hopefully a week or just over it will be ready but if it isn't I am not opposed to running it longer... I am sure much more than a week and the plant will stop developing from lack of nutes... unless it will continue fattening from the sugars.. I dont know... I know the leaves should all start going soon...
so heres the vitals

9-1-2015_H.JPG

I will double check them later as well cause they are still equalizing out a bit...
Top one is the flower lower ones is veg tent.

The plant looks good but leaves are already drying they look like poop... just the damaged ones...... but she still hasn't stopped growing pistils...

What does everyone think.. can you go two weeks in hydro flushing with out hurting it? If it needs to go the extra week? Should I run nutes still?
I was only adding 300 ppm last weeks run.
No idea on tric's looked clear with my 30x but I have a the other one coming I'll get a better look then.
Guess that's it for now...

FE I wish I knew. I am learning through you at this time. So let me just say thanks for posting this journal. It has been informative and fun. Just the home stretch now and you get to harvest :)

Thanks Bama been great to have you on board.. I've been a little "subdued" and boring recently. I'll try to step it back up hehe.

I dunno bout 72 less than 72 hrs but my shortest with clearex is 4 days
its a 4-7 day flush
other thing I saw
as far as scrogs go how long of a veg time to almost fill it before you can flip?
everyone has their own opinions as do it
my point is perpetual
with 4-5 plant total with the right strains harvest a plant every 3-4 weeks in dwc
using 9-10 week bloom strains keep em 3 weeks apart
then tell me what you rather have
you can have a pound or more when your done with your scrog
of the same strain every 3 weeks to 4 weeks I can have something new to smoke
like I said opinion this ones mine
3-4 week veg on mostly 9 week bloom plants
every once in awhile you can stick in a 10 week plant
but every 3-4 weeks you got something new to try
strain dependent on yield ive easily averaged 4oz dried a plant
some smaller the last one I chopped the blue dream x gdp was a monster yielder on a 14 week total
at 10oz 20g dried
how many weeks before you can even flip a scrog to 12/12?
at 3 weeks minimum I can flip and still get enough stretch to get decent sized plants
strain dependent
just my thoughts

Great Info!
you pretty much nailed it... 3-4 weeks a new batch starts... I picked all 8-9 week strains besides the sour D 11-12 on that.. Seems like same thing you are doing besides the scale...

4 oz plants are plenty for me.... if every 3-4 weeks I was harvesting one or two plants yielding that much it will afford me plenty to experiment on (hashes, oils etc) 4 oz every 3-4 weeks of a different strain is the goal because I tend to get a tolerance to strains. Once I get more grows under my belt and a little back up assortment things could change to longer.. more Yielding... For now I just want to get it "perpetual" and see how that rolls.

Have you ever flushed longer than a week in hydro... or do you think it can hurt it no nutes for last two weeks of flower? I plan to harvest next week but i am flushing and if it isn't ready I can let it go longer.. but if no nutes will be a problem I would just stay on a weeks schedule...

Thanks for getting involved Cronic good stuff...
Have a good day bro! when you want to grab that Cig.... Skip this one... you won't miss it...ok you will but you'll forget. Good luck today bro!

I'm not a hydro guy Far East. But I'm more then familiar with flushing. And I think running a 2 week flush is a great idea. But after that flush. Don't add any more nutes. Chances are she'll have some in her reserves to feed off of during the last couple weeks.

Ps. 40ppm from tap water?!?! Lucky guy you!! Mines 400ppm.

Your garden is doing wonderful! Keep it up!

Thanks for looking. Appreciate it. I thought 2 weeks would be ok.. yah no plans to reintroduce nutes unless something happened and I needed to go a lot longer. I would have to flush again.

Yah I am super lucky on the water... I am sorta in the country but it is town water...

Again thanks for looking and commenting ;)

Still Fasting no food ;)

She looks it.. starting to discolor all the fans a little. certain ones faster than others.
Buds all look good! Still pistils popping open daily but slower... funny how at points the plant wants almost all you can give it for food and then near the end you are starving it ..hehe

Here is some pics.. Post have been boring not much to see just daily slight growing...

Pull the plug. She's crying to be done. Between the defoliation, nute burn and multiple bug sprays she's all but dead. Those shiny dark green/burnt leaves are not signs of good health. My mom turned 88 last week and if she looked that beat up I'd pull her plug.

You might get a few grams more if you wait but I'd flush her now and let nature take it's course over the next week or so.

Sorry to be so blunt but it's time to move on. You'll need to clean up that space to make sure any remnants of mites are gone for your next plant(s) and if you flush her out now you can save some time and get on with a new and better grow for the next go-round.

You've learned tons of stuff that will make the next ones so much better that this one will fade into the past soon enough.

That's what I would do at this point but your mileage may vary.
