Fanleaf's Huge 42 COB Array Build Plus Other Builds

Fanleaf:

I got the meters installed today; they work as advertised. Now I have verified an issue I have known about but could not describe. I think it may be the 100K pots but let me describe what is going on. Currently I have only two drivers running cobs. They are on the same 20A electrical circuit. One dims somewhat linear and the other dims to 7 watts or 198 watts nothing in between? It affects the first driver a lot as I try to dim it so there is no way to balance them. I did not think that these Meanwell drivers HLG-185H-C1400B were supposed to dim down to 7 watts? they both work fine at full speed although one is a little lower in watts as you will see in the picture. The one with the lower watts is the one that does not dim properly. Have you run into this before?

The third (bottom) meter is tracking two non-dimmable Roleadro LED fixtures I am using until I build out the rest of the cobs and add a third driver. It is on a second 20A circuit that is switched on when power is applied to the first two drivers via a ssr-25AA. I will most likely keep the Roleadros in the room permanently. I am using them now to incubate my latest beans. Two of each Fast Buds Girl Scout Cookies Auto, Green Crack Auto and Zambeza Blueberry Auto.

I'm definitely putting 5 per rail. I might drill underneath into heatsinks instead of mounting to sides of heatsinks. Its easier to layout everything on 12 in centers. Some of the heatsinks I have , has 2 holes tapped on each side, pain in the ass to to get perfect. I got a box of 85k pots.

I mounted a few from the sides. It was a little wobbly. The angle aluminum I'm using isn't dead square on the inside edge. The box of 30 sinks I got from Robin were all tapped at the sides and the face. 2 on the sides. 4 on the face.

Drilling box all night long.
For those who don't know how...here's a quick photo DIY on making "power thru" boxes. Drill press required (or dremel)

What you need is a nibbler!

Naw. I have a router. I was just too lazy to cut a jig. Hopefully I won't be making too many of these. Trying to find somewhere that sells them pre built.

Yea, your using the angled angle, I'm using Sq type, I just looked at receipt, mine is 6061-T6. If you notice like on 2 in iron angle, it's tapered a little, which is 6063. I got the 133's from northern, they have only 1 hole on sides and 2 on bottom

That's where I got mine. From Robin at NGL. I use the 120SST's. More than enough heat dissipation up to 1750mA.

I have a router also but I can cut 10 of those with a nibbler in the time it takes me to setup the router!

Really? Cuz once I make a jig that the project box fits into I can probably cut both holes in under 30 seconds. Mind you...it takes an hour to make an accurate jig box. But after that it's like assembly line mass production.

Yes once you have a jig a router would be faster and more accurate but I would probably FUBAR a few jigs before I got it right. look at that nibbler table in my first post. I have a ghetto version of that and it cuts really fast.

Buckshot: plastic sheet (project boxes) are like butter to this nibbler and yes sheet metal cuts easily also!

How do you have meters wired? I only saw one with all 4 ports being used, I thought these had an in and out with hour load. I have 5 going in a 12x12x4 box. Had it wired up last night then unhooked it. Used #12 for the power, I thought it was overkill, but free wire. I ordered 16awg for power, easier to work with. I'll try to get pick up

I'm gonna look at this nibbler. These three boxes took an hour to make. But...there was much "smoking" going on. It cost $10 CDN to build each one. Don't know how much demand I'll get for it. It would be cheaper to put it on my Beam light prototype as it wouldn't need the box. Just the $3 in/out. I'm building a cover/heatsink for the driver. I could put a AC in/out integrated into the cover.

Buckshot in the second picture the top two are not connected to the drivers yet the bottom one is connected to a receptacle that I plug some non-dimmable LED lights. The first picture is after it was all hooked up.

How do these wire in?

I run 2 drivers so could I have 1 display for the 2 combined?
