Fanleaf's Huge 42 COB Array Build Plus Other Builds

Osram makes a great diode, made for horticulture, not street lights and other purposes like rest of manufacturers. You can look at timber, to get an idea to build. Solder them on starboard and stick to passive heatsink, like the cobs. The timber far red kits are kind of expensive.

I just learned cheap automotive wire is not a good choice to use. I was going to use to hook up drivers outside of grow. I hooked up fluke megger, set to 500v, the insulation has very low resistance. At autozone the wire is rated for 12v, I just wanted to test it to see. I still can't upload pics with phone, I'll get another camera at best buy later to show results. I was hoping it would work. I don't want to take chance of fire or tearing equipment up.

Drilling box all night long.
For those who don't know how...here's a quick photo DIY on making "power thru" boxes. Drill press required (or dremel)

Just put together control board for drivers, pots, and ac meters. Used #12awg thhn for the power. Got it to fit, but little tight in 12x12x4 junction box. As quick as I wired, I then unwired. #12 wire just too big, only reason tried because I have 2500ft reels of #12. I just order some 500 ft reels of #16 mtw 600v wire. I should have used this from start, alot easier to work with, since these 240h drivers max at less than 3 amps. #12 is for 20amps. I tried to go way overboard, but the #12 was free.

Alright guys.

Currently running 4 x 1825s @ 3500k.

Considering adding some more light to use up an hlg-120-1050 I have laying around.

Any recommendations for far red or uv?

Getting bored lol

Can't decide how to make frame. Its going to be 54 in by 54in. Don't know if should make 1 big frame (5 rows of 5), or 2 frames (1 with 3 rows of 5 and 1 with 2 rows of 5). Any opinions would be appreciated

Use modular rails. I made box frame last year. Had to cut it apart when I changed tents.

I'm using vero, I'll have 6 hlg 240c1400b drivers, 4 cobs per driver. If I use 2 frames I'll have a wire jumping onto other frame. My ocd is killing me. I thought about 320h series drivers, but still can only drive 24 chips with 4 320hc1400b. 5 rows of 5 doesn't seem to be good # for veros at 1400ma. Maybe should have looked at 1050ma drivers

I'd stick with 5 per driver with an inline resistor at the pot for 85ohms on the PWM...or 4 per driver. I hate lopping wire all over the place. My first array was like that. So confusing when you want to move things around.
I make sure to drill an extra set of holes on the rails to make the COBs repositionable.
