some focussing on what we consider to be standard practice, and a lot of us are going to be unhappy with the results.
Especially anyone with an antiestablishment bent to their thinking.

I’m honestly excited for it. I can’t wait to see everything under a microscope. It’s really important to stay humble and open minded in regard to new information, especially if it challenges traditional thought. That’s exciting to me!

Especially with all of the new imaging abilities we have, ooooweee!

OK. Getcha. I’m a little bit right though?

You think Myco has no value in non soil environments. For me the jury is out on that one and I have 🍿 ‘cause Azi is also now talking.

But with respect to our host Mel’s #33 your opinion is? Add some amendments or not? I defer to everyone in soil. I killed plenty in that! But this hydro/coco - I’m OK at that, sorta. Just leave it alone and see what happens. Don’t go throwing any extras in. Watch and wait and read the plant.

My 2c’s any way. Nice and green plant. Looks a bit droopy is all.

I just went and looked over all the pics and 33 has been sassy since day one. It looks like overwatering so she may just not take kindly to a hydro style. However, she also does look to me like when flower comes, she will bounce back and perform well. Some phenos are just stubborn. Hopefully that’s the case here.

Day 35
I turned the light up to 75% and raised it (after I took the pics, I should probably start doing things like that before the pics). I'm not entirely sure how far, but 10 clicks on the ratchets seemed appropriate.

Do si dos
I have to admit, she's my favourite right now.

Do si dos #33
She looks even better today. Now to figure out if it's the dry res, or the flip to flower that she likes.

Gelato
You can't see it in the pics, but there's a white fuzzy mould or fungus growing on the surface of her perlite. Not sure what's up with that, but it'll be taken care of when I spray for algae.

Hopefully.
I gave her a few ml, just what was left in the watering can after watering the other two. They both took just under 1.5 litres each.
She'll be watered next time I water them, day after tomorrow, so we'll know soon if I have to adapt to her by giving her less water at a time.
@Bill284 watered his coco girls without runoff this summer, using MC, so I'm wondering if I can do that with her.

Good morning Melville :ciao:
MC worked great in the greenhouse this summer.
Helped reduce humidity and no buildup around the roots.
Everyone was happy and well fed.
MC for the win.:thumb:
Hope your doing well. :passitleft:

:hmmmm:

I don't follow. How would MC help reduce humidity in a greenhouse??
Bill didn't feed to runoff, even though he was growing in coco.
As he said above, no buildup, and no puddles of evaporating nutes under the plants.

I pumped in a 100 l. / day last summer.
Brutal rh from transporation alone. MC reduced the need for runoff constantly.
No salts building up in the root zone.
It's not my normal coco grow but it worked.
Not a magic nutrient if that's what you thought. ;)
Just reduced the amount I had to feed every day.

Yeah I get Azi’s confusion totally but what a perfect explanation.

So basically Bill you’ve gone like science based growing?!

😂😂😂

Me, I’m just caveman based 🤣

Oh and Ph! Yeah I do that. Well someone does. & Co I think.

I find this humorous because in reality, all of you folks using PH, synthetics, nutrient systems, etc. are the ones doing science growing.

I’m just throwing poop, blood, and bones into some dirt. It’s not my fault I know things 🤣

Hi everyone!
I had an idea earlier this year. I decided it would be interesting to take a strain, and grow it with its parent strains.
To that end, I'm growing Do si dos #33 from @Barney's Farm alongside a Do si dos, and a Gelato.
I'll be growing these in my 60x120cm tent, under the @ViparSpectra XS2000.
This will be a hempy grow, with MC and mag nitrate as nutrients.
I also have some @Remo Nutrients magnifical if needed.

Here are the strain details.

Do si dos
THC: 30%
CBD: 1%
Indica dominant
Lineage: GSC x Face Off OG
Flowering: 56-70 days
Flavour: Earthy, flowery, kush, pungent, sweet, pepper
Effects: Happy, hungry, relaxed, sleepy

Do si dos #33
THC: 22-28%
CBD: 0%
60% indica/40% sativa
Lineage: Do si dos x Gelato #33
Flowering: 60-65 days
Flavour: Mint, lime, spice, cookies, sherbet
Effects: Relaxed, sedative, Happy

Gelato
THC: 27%
CBD: 0%
Indica dominant
Lineage: Sunset Sherbert x Thin Mint GSC
Flowering: 56-70 days
Flavour: Sweet, vanilla, mint
Effects: Euphoric, aroused, happy

This is also a redemption grow for Do si dos and Do si dos #33.

Everyone is welcome to follow along, and feel free to speak up or ask questions at any time!

They're not up yet, but here's a pic anyway!

Mel have you ever grown a 33 before or is this your first time with it?

So you define your style as Pre Paleo?

But what is this “know things”? Witchcraft or Science?

I just have “Skin & Eyes” (TM)

Oh a Ph pen, ‘bout $1000 of sensors. Call
It $1500 all told.

But “Skin & Eyes”

🤣

One of the reasons you fertigate hempies to significant runoff is to prevent a buildup of leftover fertilizer. I'm sort of hoping I can get away with not going to runoff here since I am using MC. If I can it'll mean I can maintain a lower amount of water for DSD #33 without needing constant dry backs.
I'll be seeing if that's necessary at lights off day after tomorrow or at lights off tomorrow. If she's already as dry as I think she is she'll need water today at lights on, but if she's still okay, I'll water her tomorrow with the others. It'll be a full watering, just to make sure she's still more sensitive. If she takes it well, I'll just water her like everyone else going forward until/unless she goes droopy again.
Yeah I get Azi’s confusion totally but what a perfect explanation.

Add fertilizer to water and pour in.
That's pretty much the extent of my process now, lol!
I don't even ph!

Sounds kinda like sorcery when you put it like that!
😆
Mel have you ever grown a 33 before or is this your first time with it?
I grew one before, but the soil was contaminated. Everything I planted in that soil got sick, just some things took longer than others.
The lemon plants didn't make it past 10cm tall, the peppers got a bit further, and the cannabis made it to harvest, but the plants were pretty jacked up.
Do si dos and Do si dos #33 did okay, but far from my best. They're in the journal at the top of the similar threads section below.
Despite the issues DSD #33 had some gorgeous flowers.
Zkittlez and Blueberry were interesting. The Zkittlez had great root growth, but showed issues on her leaves first, and Blueberry had suboptimal roots, but toughed out the soil for a lot longer.
Unfortunately that was my first sponsored journal, and it looks like they weren't impressed 😅
Interesting that you found there was no salt buildup in the coco with MC. Other than the less than 1% amino vs EDTA chelated elements, 99%+ of it is the same salt-based nutes as everything else.

What do you think made the difference?
Personally I think it is the EDTA. It's been shown to build up in soil.

All you really need sometimes!

lol it does sound kind of like “let’s go see the oracle before battle” type stuff I’ll give you that. I don’t spit in the dirt though…. Yet. 🤣

Boo, so no real comparison. I can’t find any decent journals on the strain either. Looks like we’ll find out about her together.

😂 oh man that’s rough “I swear this isn’t normal” is one of the worst things to have to say to someone you’ve just started working with.

Yeah. It wouldn't have been a great comparison anyway with the differences between soil and hempy.

Better than saying it to someone you just started dating... 😬

Day 36
Ok, by the look of things I'll be watering her with the rest.

Do si dos

Do si dos #33
Still looking good.

Gelato
Still a bit pale. I'm upping the MC again.

Some fine looking plants! I killed a Dos Si Dos once btw!

Mostly through neglect. In an outdoor SIP. Never really thought to water her. The eventual cause of death was an early “winter” (rainy season) storm ripped her apart but she was near dead already. That she lived as long as she did perhaps suggests its a strain prefers dry?

Sorry it took me so long to make the connection! But yeah she got barely anything but rainwater the whole summer (dry) season and lived. Until the winds tore her asunder.

Great, thanks a lot @InTheShed and Mel, now I’m off down an EDTA rabbit hole and the first thing I came across was this:

“However, EDTA, like most synthetic chelatants, has several disadvantages: (i) it has a high cost, (ii) is poorly biodegradable, (iii) can lead to secondary pollution (Liu et al. 2022), and (iv) can have negative impacts on plant growth (Liu et al. 2008)”

Here’s the source:

It gets real heady real fast so if you don’t like studies, you really won’t like this one lol
