Great, thanks a lot @InTheShed and Mel, now I’m off down an EDTA rabbit hole and the first thing I came across was this:

“However, EDTA, like most synthetic chelatants, has several disadvantages: (i) it has a high cost, (ii) is poorly biodegradable, (iii) can lead to secondary pollution (Liu et al. 2022), and (iv) can have negative impacts on plant growth (Liu et al. 2008)”

It gets real heady real fast so if you don’t like studies, you really won’t like this one lol
Thanks Keffka! @farside05 did a great post that included chelation a few years back which is when first read about that. I'm not all concerned about it in a pot of soil that gets used once and tossed into the garden, especially given the tiny percentage of chelated elements there are in the mix. I'm sure it's a much bigger problem in farming.

Oh I definitely agree with you. It’s why I’m so finicky about what goes into my containers. I don’t even like organic acids in my soil. I recycle it though so I have to know. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be concerned with one runs effects on anything. I wouldn’t even bother with runoff (unless there was an issue) if I was just tossing the medium.

The TLDR of the study:

Seeing if EDTA is still one of the better ways to remove metal toxicity and what they found is basically, every environment needs to have an assessment done on it and a custom plan worked out. Just using EDTA to bind up the metals and have plants remove them because you knew mining happened there or some other toxicity isn’t cost effective, and isn’t always the best method to employ. They have lots of charts and numbers for those interested

Day 37
Okay, I know this looks like a step back, but it's actually a good thing.
She's thirsty.
I gave all 3 a full fertigation, and we'll see within the next 24 hours how she takes it.

Do si dos
No obvious stigmas yet, but she's definitely stretching. I had to raise the light another 5 clicks.

Do si dos #33

Gelato
She has started to put out stigmas. She isn't stretching much yet.

Some fine looking plants! I killed a Dos Si Dos once btw!

Mostly through neglect. In an outdoor SIP. Never really thought to water her. The eventual cause of death was an early “winter” (rainy season) storm ripped her apart but she was near dead already. That she lived as long as she did perhaps suggests its a strain prefers dry?

Sorry it took me so long to make the connection! But yeah she got barely anything but rainwater the whole summer (dry) season and lived. Until the winds tore her asunder.

Nick
Thanks Nick!
The weird thing is she's a cross of the other two strains, and they're both happy. I think it's just this particular plant that wants a drier environment.
I went to the dictionary and looked up happiness Mel. It gave me a link to your Gelato!
Thanks StoneOtter!
That means a lot coming from you!
You Grow some of yhe happiest looking plants on here!
Looks like #33 is looking much better since the flip. I'm rooting for the underdog here.

Thanks MGM!
Yeah, she's looking a lot better. I'm cautiously optimistic about her right now.

Thanks for finding that Keffka, I'll look at it tomorrow after my coffee!

That's a good point, but I do wonder how much EDTA it takes to cause a problem? Maybe that'll be covered in the paper.

You know, I'd really like to know how the autocorrect on my phone decided that "yhe" is a word, and I'd really like to know what kind of skinny fingered f'kers they got to test these touchscreen keyboards.

I haven’t had autocorrect on for 5-6 years. Now my phone won’t correct anything - like its sulking. Its underlines stuff in red like “rhere” when I meant “there” and when I click it to correct I get “No suggestions found” 😂

Orly?!
My auto correct seems to require that the first letter be correct in order to offer reasonable and helpful suggestions. If the first letter is wrong I get only suggestions starting with that incorrect letter. You'd think ai would have progressed further than that by now.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. It's pretty weird. I feel like it used to be better.
Ha I was just thinking the same thing about 2 hours ago.
Mine changes are to ate all the time! 🤣

That droopy one hasn't fallen behind the other 2.
Maybe it's just droopy naturally?

Maybe. But then she recovered when she dried out a bit.
Either way she's not so droopy now, so I'm happy.

The other thing I was thinking it could be is your humidity. I've seen some plants droop from low humidity. I mean low humidity like below 35%
Probably not what's happening but just a thought.
I think I just likes a dryer medium.

Either way she's not so droopy now, so I'm happy.
Good looking trio, Mel!
33 is looking a lot better...
I grew a Northern Lights that looked like that from start to finish...it grew alright, and the smoke was good, but she never did seem to wake all the way up while she was growing..

I'm thinking she likes a drier medium as well.
The humidity in the house hasn't dropped into the 30s yet. That's for later in the season when it's really getting cold outside. For now we're keeping it in the 40s with a dehumidifier.
The tent is usually in the 50s when I open it in the morning, and can get into the 70s during lights off.

She's growing well, and has started stretching and showing stigmas, though they're still tiny.
I'll keep her on the half fertigation schedule unless she starts showing a deficiency.

Yeah, she had been watered the day before. But she came back around faster this time.
She's still growing, and she's not going yellow like I would expect with a chronically overwatered plant, so I'm just going to let her do her thing.
