Day 22 (9 Days since sprouting)
The girls are looking well, they've had their second feed.
Aeryn Sun
One node, still has cotyledons, seems healthy, slowest grower so far.
Christine Kochanski
Two nodes, Looks healthy enough though has some light green and dark green mottling on the leaves, though the leaves feel healthy. Still has cotyledons. Fastest grower in the group.
Kaylee Frye
One node, second fastest grower, looks healthy.
Caprica Six
One node, seems healthy, second slowest grower
This evening i found a midgey fly walking around on the top of Kochanski's coir about 2 hours after watering (from almost bone dry), I'm unsure as to how it got there, one theory is that i transported it on some towels I'd brought down from the bathroom where a window was open. I used the towels to dry the tray after watering. I have generously applied neem oil and diatamaceous earth to all of the pots. I hope that he is the only one of those i encounter.
If anyone sees any obvious problems with the plants i might have missed, please let me know
Edit: Update on the fifth plant (the mouldy one)
Cameron's Britain
This plant's blatant refusal to grow past two tiny serrated mint leaves led to the water in the pot not being used, lying stagnant and growing some mould. I first tried removing the top inch of coir to get rid of it, i also tried spraying with Neem oil as several people suggested it on my many Googlings. Eventually i got fed up and decided to go with the hydrogen peroxide. The stuff my girlfriend brought was the wrong kind and i just thought "fuck this" and used it anyway. The mould is now dead and the soil is both aerated and dry-ish. The plant, however, now has leaves that are half white. I'm assuming that this is not great. Regardless, I'll press on. I mixed up one scoop of the mycorrhizal fungi with 0.5ML canna coco A and 0.5ML of B in a litre of water. the pH test came out at a shade darker than 6 (i use colour pH testing, so no digital readout, it was close to 5.8 anyway). I administered this until run off and disposed of the mycorrhizal crumbs down the loo.
The plant is probably dead already but i might as well try a last ditch effort now that the threat of the mould has been eliminated.
