Equanimity's First Grow - Lemon Kush - Canna Coco - CFL

Hey equanimity, all the leaves on the bottom were dying off like that, and if so have you got it under control now?

Hey i want to go over something with you that will explain a few little things that fits this subject. You say you want 4 stems per plant, are you trying to limit them to only 4 because there will be many more than that. I have a plant that wasnt topped or LST that has 21 tops / branches. Leaving the plant natural will not result in a 1 stem stick plant. Its in their natural blueprint to branch out for better seed dispersion. Every node on your plant where you have the leaves, a branch will grow right from in between the stem and leaf. Now the point i was trying to get at before was, if you lose all your leaves on your lower stem, there is nowhere for a branch to grow. The stem basically creates a scab where the leaf once was and does not grow a branch. So think of it this way, every leaf that you lose off the main stem, you are losing an entire branch that would have a cola and countless more leaves that can also branch. You wouldnt think that cutting a little leaf off could do any harm, but you hinder the abillity to branch and lose a significant amount of bud in the long run.

Just my two pennies, remember every leaf counts!

What I do is fasten the leaves to the main stem with yarn. This takes the leaf out of the way without the need to defoliate.

What I'm going for is the method called "main lining" as described on another website (unsure if mentioning is allowed) but where the person there made eight stems, i will be making four (due to my space limitations).

To this end I've been defiliating (including the growth tips) in the areas where I'll not be wanting any growth (all areas below the rim of the pot, basically). Once I've got my four main stems I'll then stop what I'm doing and only defoliate in the same way others do in line with normal growth methods.

The result should be four stems of equal thickness. They will come from the growth tips opposite to each other in the same way that my current pair of stems do. I'm trying to grow the plant with a degree of symmetry which i know is not natural for these plants.

Currently I have my four stems per plant strapped down in the direction i want them to go, but in this case I've left the lower growth and won't remove this until the new stems are doing the bizzo.

Also, with regards to the dying leaves; this appears to have been sorted out when i increased the feeds.

Update

The girls all look fine and are starting to take off big time now

2014-06-15_00_00_20.jpg

They're drying out their pots every 2 days now, though i'm wondering when i should flip them, as there will soon be no space inside the cupboard for horizontal growth.

should i be concerned about horizontal growth when i flip them?

If you are already starting to run out of overhead clearance then flip them now. As in last week :) They are nice and healthy so go for the flip. Do you have room to space them a bit? Have you ever looked into training style mainlining? It would be very useful for your situation. If you want I can give you the summary version.

im gonna look to the space issue but i have something more pressing to ask about.

the smell has gotten stronger lately but it has overtoans of something i recognise but i can't for the life of me remember exactly what it is.

just that it's a kind of meat; it has meaty overtones.

kind of beefy.

Nice update.they are very healthy looking bushy little plants.well done,as many first time growers would have burn on the leaves, but yours are so green looking so:bravo: buddy.thats a first for me,steak smelling plants, brillient.set a boat of pepper sauce beside them, that would be an amazing smell to wake up to every morning, cannabis, steak and pepper sauce, yum yum.well done mate, goodluck with the flip.

thanks man. I've got visitors next weekend so I'll be doing the flip next sunday; possibly lol

at the rate these are growing now they'll probably have a few inches on them by then. I'm thoroughly looking forward to getting stuck into these bad boys lol

Also, you should head over to a guys thread, virgingrower.he grew three photo plants, and he's harvesting right now.go to page 88 or 89.it will give you a good idea what to expect of your plants.put it this way,he spent nearly £1000 on his first grow, and its paying of for him now.I think his grow will help you,if you go back to were your plants are at now,any mistakes he made, you could avoid altogether.it seems you might run into a cal/may problem later in your grow,as that seems to happen to a lot of photo plants.check it out.it honestly will guide you along real nice.

i have actually been anticipating a calcium/magnesium deficiency at some point as it appears my nutes don't provide it (or very little); as for the smell.. it's not so bad tbh. i expect it to get worse but i'm working on some sort of filtration.

I'm moving soon.so won't be growing again for at least a year.I'm thinking of planting 2\3 photo seeds next spring outdoors,in woods, just to see if they actually grow.I'll germinate them.run and plant,an just check on them once an a while just to see if it works.I know we don't get loads of sunshine,if I do get any results, happy days.what I don't understand is how can these plants grow fine in nature, yet indoors they need all these diff nuts,it confuses the life out of me.

Wow I just repeated pretty much what you said. I must be tired and high

Sorry smokerjoe,if you covered all that stuff, then silly me.I was away for a week,so just got an email about this grow this morning.I didn't look back at what was already said.just trying to offer advise.

They'll grow and that, the nutes is just "for best results" kinda thing.

plus, the UK has no native species, so it's impossible to know what way they'd perform outdoors, however, in the woods with a thich canopy, i can't imagine they'd get a lot of sunlight

Yeah no not in actual woods,I mean beside woods.I have a place in mind.just an experiment. But my next proper grow will be indoors.I'm guess I'm looking for a way around photos, with that powerful smell, without using carbon filter ect.if my a mircle I actually grew outside,an it worked,I would just do that instead of indoors.imagine planting about 10 seeds,an coming back 5 months later to a field of cannabis:tommy: its wishfull thinking.dreamland.but im going to try it

the problem i can see is with pests; stem borers and the likes and all manner of creepy crawlies and moulds and shit INSIDE the bud that you don't notice until you're half way through smokin it.

like the old "half a maggot in my sandwich" - like, where IS the other half? lol

Yeah fair point, where I have in mind loads of dear and other wildlife are running about.plus I was thinking how would you "flip" with nature doing its thing,it would all have to be timed right, with the nights getting darker I think.I'm not sure I even know what I'm talking about:rofl: maybe run up there an pitch a grow tent:rofl: ok then, back to plan b,wait it out, then see what happens in a year.cant take the risk now.ill be honest,i dont even want loads of smoke,i actually want the enjoyment of growing two or three plants again.its addictive.i see it as a hobbie now.wish the law would change.i actually wish alcohol was totally banned, and pot was legal in coffee shops like amsterdam.but thats just wishful thinking (again).take it easy mate.an enjoy that beautiful sunshine:partyboy:
