Equanimity's First Grow - Lemon Kush - Canna Coco - CFL

Got a question for you guys, i was wondering...

as my plants are getting big now, I'm at the point where I need to start defoliating random fan leaves (mainly from the underside where the light hardly gets to) and i was wondering if i could brew up the fan leaves into a sort of tea that i can strain off and add to subsequent feeds.

any benefit to this?

I never added that to a tea so I couldnt say. However, I have seen a few peoples journals who have done that and spoke of sucess. Are you taking off dead leaves or good ones? What I do is when the fan leaves are in the way I tie them to the main steam so the leaves still function and they are out of the way.

one thing is becoming increasingly difficult.. keeping up with feeds. It seems that every time i come home from whatever I've been doing, the pots are bone dry and Ithe plants are drooping. I've been able to pull things round every time, but it seems like bigger pots would be most useful now.

i guess these are all lessons learned for my next grow :)

Update

The girls all look fine and are starting to take off big time now

They're drying out their pots every 2 days now, though i'm wondering when i should flip them, as there will soon be no space inside the cupboard for horizontal growth.

should i be concerned about horizontal growth when i flip them?

OMIGAWD, your girls are absolutely beautiful! Gorgeous!! :high-five: Forgive me, please, for tramping through your garden with elephant feet, but I just have to say that I got the faith, and you can do no wrong from here on in.:cheertwo:

I know I've cruised through your journal before, bleating "low phosphorous" shit, but this time I may actually have something worth saying. Your girls are drying out and you are thinking it may be the small pots. Let's agree that your pots could have been larger. Why not? It's fun to agree, especially since my pots were too damn small and I can feel your pain.

So, what to do besides repotting at this stage? Lower the temp. Raise the humidity. Prolong your dark time--see, here's where I get to be an ass because I don't know if you even have a dark time yet. I know that one of my two cent pieces of advice was frozen nutes/ice cubes.

No matter, you have got some primo lookin ladies here. What ever you think is best, do it, man. And I really like the color scheme. Those red pots ROCK against the blue.

Crap, and the leaf thing? As a gardener outside the cab looking at your advisors inside the cab, they speak wisely. A yellow leaf will never turn green. A crunchy leaf is, uh, well, it's dead. Choose the obvious when you are a trimmin' leaves. Remove the crunchy leaves before coffee, the yellow leaves during coffee.

Day 53

The timer has been changed to turn on the lights at 8pm and turn them off at 8am.

I'm hoping so see sights of change within the week but ya never know.

As you can see, the girls appear happy and healthy in spite of previous issues. I've had one or two instances of crunch leaves but they were all around the bottom.

the shortest and tallest plants seem to have reached equilibrium, however, Christine Kochanski has stuck with tradition of being the tallest and most powerful of the group standing a clear two inches higher. There's always one in every crowd lol

I've had to take them out of the cupboard to photograph them.

And so we enter Level 2; Flowering.

Hey man, lesions learned but another lesson is its never too late!
I always transplant the day going into flower, I find it makes this strain explode . also u can top off your pots at anytime with more coco.

Looking good man. What size are those pots u have now? Im so bad at judeing pot sizes. 1 gallon?

i think they are about a gallon, maybe a little more, I've not measured and it doesn't say on them. the diameter is 7" cos it does say that.

i don't want to risk a transplant but if later down the line it becomes a problem then i shall.

topping them up might be an idea though, I'll look at that tomorrow.

thanks for looking :)

i will attempt to finish my grow in these pots unless problems arise from it. indicators of this would probably consist of surface roots, or roots coming out of the bottom. If this happens then i will transplant.

there is little space for bigger pots in the grow room, perhaps I've allowed them to grow too big before the flip, however, i need to see it through to the end before i can determind the "goldilocks" arrangement for this particular grow room.

might even take more grows to figure that out.

Stumped brought up something I've been thinking about. That final transition before harvest. I like the idea of giving Her fresh dirt just as She goes into flower. Seems like if She is healthy enough, She'll appreciate the last room to stretch her roots in a good soft bed. Kinda like wiggling toes. Big change all around, so why not get both of these things out of the way at the same time?

I am jealous as hell that your bouncing babies are a hell of a lot more beautiful than my brats. 7" pots, let me grab a ruler and a calculator. Screw that! Math. Blue Dude, if you have to buy your ladies new slippers, that's what you'll have to do. Next time you whip up your gourmet instant coffee, figure this: the roots are the underground skeleton.

The way I figure, you have better roots than my poor Larry did, and you have 4 healthy girls. You will be filling three jars, like I said, then sending me 10 shiny dimes in the mail so I can get some real cream. :)

Rock on, man!:Namaste:

might be hard for me to acquire yanky coin so I'll send you it in sterling and you can convert lol

I'll see about the pots. for now, I'll just stick to what I've been doing cos it has, more or less, been working.

I'd rather not break the game at this juncture lol

I've never grown in coco. I only know what I've seen and read. Instead of moving to bigger pots you might consider adding deep drip trays under each pot. Then when you feed/water, pour through the top of the pot until the liquid almost fills the drip tray and is a couple of inches up the outside of the pots. The roots will feed off that "reservoir." Make sure you let the trays go dry between water/feeding. What you'd be doing is a crude flood and drain. I know I've seen something like this before and it worked quite well. Around here clear plastic 8cm deep drip trays can be found at most garden centers for cheap.
