DWC & Soil: Verb's Purple Puncher Autos, Mars Hydro TS 1000

Osmotic pressure actually works the other way - if the reservoir EC is much higher than the concentration in the plant, the plant will release fluid (not nutrients) back into the reservoir in an attempt to equalize the concentration. This results in dehydration in the leaf tips (“nute burn”) AND a lower EC in the reservoir.
Don’t even have to ask you anything when you already answear to my questions. :cheesygrinsmiley:
That explains a little that ”acid rain” effect which had couple of times with criticalXL.

So there is actually couple rows in that chart which could be overlined or they could be misleading in some situations.

in a solution where the EC is much lower, then wouldnt the opposite happen? And that would "pull" material(s)/nutes from the plant back into the solution in an attempt to equalize the Osmatic pressure/concentration?
In that situation, the plant will pull liquid from the reservoir (i.e. drink) - which will equalize the concentrations - AND the plant might show deficiencies since the nutrient concentration in the plant has decreased (because the reservoir EC was too low).

And that right there is where I've been going wrong then.

That chart needs to be remade.

Thanks FelipeBlu!

To make it simple, as long as you are at least in the low to middle of a reasonable range of ppms for the stage of the plant, your plant should be drinking and taking in nutrients. If the pH goes up from an initial 5.8-5.9, adjust back. Same with falling pH. Replace water as consumed. When EC is about 40% of initial, or weekly, change reservoir.

11/23 Quick update

Hello!
Been playing with the Drought stress aka droughting.
Last irrigation was given for Blackberry Kush auto 11/19 (that point drought stress test started)
She didn’t flinch for four days dryness but at 5th day there was major wilting (gave ~3.5L water)
E700E23F-5962-42D2-A028-66D1268F1EEF.jpeg

Had to choose a new measurement angle, since the that particular fan leave was one of those which did not wilt..

This was taken before irrigation
B8E3D5ED-943D-495C-80C9-A5FE23B5023F.jpeg

Now aiming for a five days again only with ~3.5L (bout gallon) irrigation.

And I guess she will be ready to harvest in next 7-10 days — would be total about 75 days above ground. I’ll take that!

About last 10 days Ive only fed with Terpinator & Bloom boosters/ripen. Foliage slowly losing colors, and couple days before the harvest I might drive the soil pH down to 4.5-5 to get some interesting hue (hopefully purple/pinkish) on leaves.

And couple pics to dump

Proper update about Project Purple Punches will be written tomorrow.

Stay safe 420 fam!
:passitleft:

You definitely have some very fine looking buds in there... something is definitely working well and I bet with all this stress the quality is going to be top shelf!
Hey Emilya, glad to see you around! :ciao:
And thank you, really appreciate that.

Hopefully drought stress combined with Terpinator maxes out the terpene production, which will _hopefully_ be reflected in the final finished product in a better taste and appearance.

Ive used your watering practices/guides during the veg and flowering, GHE nutes amonsgt with couple beneficials, @Mars Hydro TS1000 has done awsome job and especially in a small growing tents Ive found extra CO2 bags are somewhat secret keys.
Oh and not to forget Air Pots! Fell in love with these when used them first time on soil cultivation — Their watering is just a real pain in the arse

11/24 Journal update

Hello 420 fam!
Project Purple Punches progressing smoothly. PP#2 (dwc) starting to take noticeable growth spurts daily. Looks like a little EC bump was needed, thanks @FelipeBlu . Just gotta be careful not to overdo with N, since this strain seems to be kinda Nitrogen sensitive.

PP#1 on soil doing her stretching things and trying to keep up with, tie her down and keep flat as possible.
Depending how she settles with LST:ing, been thinking about 2x2 ScrOG.
This strain grows as described very branchy and new shoots just poppin everywhere.

— Only 45ppm of N from micro and dunno how much the potting soil had N on it. But slight excess visible.

Oh and any1 idea where this blue hue at the edges of leaves comes from?
What google told me could be P def, but hard to belive in that.. Ive fed around 15-30ppm Phosphorus.

As mentioned rised the EC when topped the current res (which before was 0.33ml/l Micro&Bloom) with 3ml Micro, 2.5ml Bloom, 8.5ml Terpinator(19.5ml total) - now NPK,Ca&Mg is about:
N: 47ppm
P: 15ppm
K: 29ppm (+60ppm K from Terpinator) = 90ppm
Ca: 55ppm + tap water
Mg: 20ppm + tap water

From now I’ll top with plain water for couple days before res change, and then I’ll most likely double that dose above to meet full veg profiles.

And lastly a groupie while BBK still standing vigorously there!

The Purple Punch photo clones that @West Hippie grew were started in the F&D (hydro) at 98 ppm N.

I don’t think it’s P def. Cool feet?

What Ive explored and kinda like generally recognized is that photos can handle higher doses compared to the autos. …At least at the beginning of the growth. But true, by the books n profiles that sized and aged plant could be fed higher N than I am.

I don’t think it’s P def. Cool feet?
Yeah think there would be other symptoms visible if its P def..
Tent temp at the floor level is 21-22C. And the fabric pot is sittin on top of 5" styrofoam.

E: just got heard that it might be due the genes and that bluish tint would indicate that purplish colors could appear during the flowering. — Does that make sense?

If I remember right Blackberry Kush had a bit same kind of thingy, thought theres some N tox and flowers gonna be lush/slowed down formin. But turned out as a perfect color and look.

Yeah - it could be that

10/25 Quickie

Happy thanksgiving 420 fam! Even tho we don’t celebrate thanksgiving in Finland, but Im involded in the spirit. :)
Just a quick update for my own record etc..

Blackberry Kush auto lost during the last night like 30% of remaining foliage. Most of the leaves were just dried down and its all about yellow shades now, the fall is here!
So took bout 5L of tap water and brought pH down to 4.4 - since looks like she wont last for a long anymore, now trying to lower the soil pH so the remaining foliage/sugarleaves could get some bluish/purple hue. We’ll see in couple days!

Trichomes are mostly cloudy and managed to find some amber ones while scoping!
I’d say close to 20% amber trichomes already

Purple Punch auto#2 (DWC)
This one going to be bushy as well. Already love the node spacing.
Topped res again with nutrient solution (~0.5L total) and reservoir base nutrient solution is:
0.66ml/l Micro & Bloom, 0.45ml/l Grow & 1.75ml/l Terpinator
N: 60ppm
P: 18ppm
K: 115ppm
Ca: 48ppm
Mg: 25ppm
S: 30ppm
- EC: 1.4 / TDS: 710ppm

Mentioned couple days earlier that PP on DWC seem to like a little higher pH (between 5.9-6.3) and by chance found this: New Research Results: Optimal pH for Cannabis (Cannabis Business times-article) some of you may have read it already, but I found it an interesting study and definitely worth reading!

Based on grower observations and initial experiments at NCSU, it is possible to grow cannabis with a wider soilless substrate pH range than most other species. Cannabis plants do not appear prone to develop leaf symptomology when substrate pH is too low or too high compared to the current general greenhouse standards—only plant stunting occurs at sub-optimal conditions.

Therefore, based on research and experience with other species, a wider range of 5.5 to 6.5 may be used.
Does this rather to confirm that pH fluctuations itself does not cause any leaf symptonology… Obv if pH being off (at alkine side) for a longer time, that causes micro deficiences/chlorosis etc.

Cannabis plant growth is less vigorous at low substrate pH levels.

Purple Punch auto#1 (soil)
Nothing much to mention. Bondage plays continues….
Gave her new upped feed today - 1.9 EC and only 40ppm from it was Nitrogen. (Included Cal/Mag, bloom boosters & beneficials) I want to see if slight P&K bump makes any magic to happen :ganjamon:

And I'm thankful for folks like you Verb!
Really appreciate it! :green_heart:
Youve been around since day one when joined this community.

Today 26th friday, Verbalist with his fiance is celebrating own BLACK Friday :Rasta: …With a nice twig of Blackberry Kush!
C80FC6BC-FCDC-4BEB-90C4-F7A322C48916.jpeg

It has been drying on top of the lamp (about 33C) for 12h now. Sugar leaves and trim dried in like 6h but waiting couple more hours for the nugs to dry.
If they still moist, lets say at 9pm would be nice to uncork a cold beer and roll a fatty - then I’ll just finish it with quick drying methods. :nervous-guy:

Oh and not to forgot, gotta scroll thru the local hydro/gardening online stores tonight if I could find something nice and at least a little useful  Impulse shopping is my vice.
Just had a quick peek and couple online stores with +50% sales. I’d actually need a proper Cal&Mg supplement and better TDS meter..

Anyway lads since all this climate change-ecoly and 420magazine community, we should call it our own green friday!
And couple green ones for green black friday:
