Hey sue I was wondering when shud I take the buds out of the paper bag n put them into a jar?? And also do I keep the jar in the fridge or no??

I have to say my growing experience is very small but I like to experiment and document everything I try with the help and guidance of everyone on the 420 forums. One thing I tried was total darkness before harvest (~63 hours). And during that period of total darkness, the increase in smell emanating from what was already a stinky plant was overwhelming. I had a light-baffled chimney to vent moisture from the dark area and I couldn't keep my nose over the chimney it was so smelly! (results summary post here)
Now this was a one-time experiment but I plan on repeating with a different strain on my second (current) grow. The help and support I get on these boards amazes me every time I post.
I decided to give it a try with my Candy Cane in her harvest window. She'll come down on Thursday after being closed up nice and tight in the closet.
Looks very frosty already. How does she smell going in? Also, how's the air circulation in that closet? I was worried about mold in all that darkness so I created light-baffled airflow though my dark space.

There's absolutely no air circulation in there. I've done this before, and I think the cedar lining takes care of the humidity concerns. There's no intense smell to the closet lining but there is a dryness to the space.

Check them at the end of the first week Jones, by airing them in a dark place for an hour and then jarring up with a hygrometer for another hour to check internal humidity levels. If they're not below 70% put them back in the bag for a few more days before you check again. They dry faster in the bags.
Jarred dry buds should be kept in a cool, dry, and dark place, sealed up tight, preferably with a Boveda 62% or equivalent in there to keep them from drying out too much. That could certainly be in the fridge, if your jars were sufficiently sealed to keep any humidity out, but it's not necessary unless your storage spaces are all too hot.

K I jus checked and the rh is54% in the bag so I'm guna put them into jars in the fridge n my hygrometer won't fit in my jar shud I use a way bigger jar with a bunch of air space then to fit it inside it or no or shud I jus throw a boveda 62 in there n tht shud be ok rght??

The humidity level in the bag is representational of the humidity level in your fridge, not in the buds. Get a larger jar and use that. Try to make it a jar that'll be at least halfway full with buds to get a better reading. Leave them in there for an hour.

Ok thanx much i really appreciate it sue ur a great help as always oh hey with tht quick method of drying using the humidifier is ur use a warm air or is it cool air to quick dry/cure ur buds jus wondering since the one i have is warm didnt no if i shud use it or not but wen i tried with my purple kush they just smelled like hay and my dark devil had no smell cud tht be from the air being warm in my humidifier?

It's more likely it simply needs cured Jones. Dry cannabis smells like hay at first. It takes a bit of cure to get rid of that smell and have the terpene expressions re-establish themselves.
The hydrator runs on hot air, but I'm keeping it at 95 F.

Thanx n ok will let it cure longer lol im so impatient haha but now im learning to get bigger yields hopefully i will have enuf smoke to last threw a nice long decent cure i hope to one day try tht hang dry for 2months method n see how tht works out but ill need way more for tht also do all humidifiers have tht temp control or are there some tht dnt cuz i dnt see how to change temp on mine do i maybe have the wrong type of one or something it says its a magic chef food dehydrator so idk but yea thanx again for the info and everthing hope ur havn a great weekend

I hope yours was as delightful. 
This dehydrator was a gift. I really haven't looked around at them, to be honest. Just as I was preparing to do so HealthFreak stepped in and saved me the trouble.

Mine wasnt 2 bad jus now sampled some of my dda and omg it has the most amazing flavor but the smell didnt come back but tht cud be be cuz it was my fast dried stuff but omg amazing stuff cant wait to c how the slo n low cured stuff turns out n i was jus lookn at the dc thread n urs has the biggest leaves ive ever seen i soooooo wish i cud have gotten some of those seeds tht strain looks amazing great jobYes, I did have a great weekend, thank you Jones.

She is an amazing strain. The seeds are a bit unpredictable. I'll have to try another next to see if I can get the purple pheno. She may change on me yet. I don't think we're a month into flowering yet, and the DDA has been known to turn in the final week, but not as dramatically as the ones that begin to turn earlier. Sending you a PM.
Perfect spot for wool sweaters and fur coats as well then!

Next time I'll check the racks after 24 hours. I chop my buds small enough I could probably do most of a harvest in one day, and what I consider large buds in two.
After 48 hours I opened her up. I could see we were done.
Beautifully preserved. Ok.... flavonoids appear to be protected. There wasn't an inordinate amount of smell emanating from this, to my nose. When I popped it open I got hit with a wave of terpenes. The buds are intact and a gentle squeeze releases a burst of fragrance.
I dropped the top tray - the larger buds - into the jar with the hygrometer. If they're stable at around 62% I can be sure the smaller buds below are drier than that.
After an hour I placed a Boveda pack inside each jar and labeled them spfir storage. From 212 grams in I got 28 grams out.
I'm testing out this small but pungent piece. I'm already pretty high on top of being exhausted from too little sleep last night, but I wanted to get a taste. The fragrance is rich and powerful. It fills the room, where it typically only smells when you bust a bud up. She's very aromatic, in a rustic kind of way. Lol!
Let me get back to it.

Ime, the buds need to come back out of the jars a few more times b4 they are completely dry. If you break some up the stem should still be rubbery in the middle.Next time I'll check the racks after 24 hours. Also if you are having trouble with buds having no smell I've heard that boveda packs kill taste and smell.
