Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Well guys and gals... I have finally had my first taste of HB produce... recently harvested and washed of course. It has only had a bit over a week to start cure... so I know it's not as good as it will be. But man... I can't even describe how amazing it is... so smooth... so much flavor and smell... right on guys! Thank you Doc Bud!!! Here's what I smoked yesterday... Wonder Woman...

And I lit it with this...

The wife got me that for Christmas, it's a hemp wick coated in organic bees wax... taste better than a lighter for sure! Just strike your lighter to get the wick lit... then put it to your bowl!

Afternoon gang! So I have a question regarding photoperiod stress...
I put a Wonder Woman Clone into flower, two weeks this Sunday. It started showing PPS (photoperiod stress) just a few days later. And it still has 3 blades leaves on the new growth. I sprayed with De-stress 4 days ago...
My last 2 Wonder Woman did the same but I thought I had caused it by changing from 11/13 to 12/12 one week into flower. Both my veg and bloom areas come on at the same time.
So my question is:
Have any of you heard or grown a strain that just doesn't like 11/13? This clone has had the same wake up time all this time. And looked good before I trans planted. I do know the genetics are crap... but the last two straightened out pretty quick and this one just keep putting out those three bladed leaves. No light leaks... have checked and checked again... humidity had been low, but I doubt that would cause this. I'm at a loss... I'm worried if she doesn't straighten out soon it'll be a crap grow... and I really need the smoke to help replenish my supply. Thanks!

I've never experienced a strain that freaks out being forced into flower.....provided sunrise stays the same.

Are going from 18/6 to 11/13? That's what I do all the time. I used to do 16/8 to 11/13 and prior to that 18/6 to 12/12. It's not something you'll see as long as sunrise is at the same time.

Now, I did have an issue with a Thai strain years ago, which freaked out if it was topped a week prior to or during the first week of bloom.

It sounds to me like you've got finnicky genetics there.

Hey Doc! Thanks for the reply. I have been Veging all my ladies 16/8 then I usually flip to 12/12 (yes, both areas come on at 5am)but had seen you guys using 11/13 so wanted to try that out. I do notice that this wonder woman has pre-flowers when vegged under 16/8, but when I grew her out before I did so on 18/6 and dont recall that being the case then. I haven't topped her or done any training in a month or more.

I am with ya on the finicky genetics, I know these plants aren't very good. But whats really tripping me out is how this girl won't come out of it. The last 2 came around pretty quick.. I will just wait it out and hope for the best. Thank you for your time Doc... I'll try and avoid freaking out... Sorry to keep asking about the same plant. She looks good, growing pretty fast!

No problem, ask anything. If it gets buried, don't hesitate to bump it.

Sometimes, you just have to cull a strain.....or quit it. I quit Colombian Gold and Willie Nelson for the forseeable future because they took so damn much of my time and energy and I always felt like I was chasing a weasel, trying to keep them happy.

Then, there are strains that just flat out perform....and those make you feel good in the garden.

I sure do have some fond memories of Colombian Gold... :grinjoint:

I get pre-flowers on a lot of clones even under 24/0. I think for the most part it has to do with the age of the clone more so than anything. As to why you are getting the photo period stress I have no clue on that. I havent really had issues with anything going to 12/12.

Hey there Yeti!! Yes this clone does have preflowers... But... the two ladies I grew out last, same strain as the clone, were from seed... but yes, I think you're correct in that clones will show preflowers early due to being cut from a more mature plant. Makes sense to me. As far as the Photoperiod stress... In this case... pretty sure it's mostly the genetics. Hate to bash these guys so much... but wow. Only 1 out of 3 strains I got was even decent.

Just avoid them in the future. I would definitely pull such a finicky girl out of the rotation. There are some breeders I will avoid these days. I have decided there are too many quality breeders to deal with the sub par ones.

If you take that a bit further and talk plants it still fits. ^^^^^ That is some golden words. It is good to know which ones to stay away from or be careful with. Which is why I think we see some strains just become very popular, because they grow well.

Boom....there it is. It sounds almost dunderheaded to say it, but it's true on many levels: The strains that grow really well often become popular.

This implies finding those strains among the modern, latest, greatest new cross with "cookie" in the name.......OR it can mean finding something from 20 years ago and doing it in High Brix and getting something no one has seen before.

I get far more compliments on the latter type of strain than the former....although I do have two "brand new" strains that are getting raves: EthosGenetics: Hazelnut Cream and Syzzurp. The former reminds of Golden Tiger/Jack Herer......the latter I can't quite place, but it has mild flavor, powerful effect and both look great in the bag.
