Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hi Brix gang!

Approaching harvest next weekend and had some questions:

Any tips on flushing or is that not necessary with High brix kit? Do we have to worry about flushing out the nutrients and sugars before chop or does this not apply to our brix methods? I seem to remember that people have been finishing on Growth energy right before chop so it sounds like we don't need to flush?

Couple other questions:

1. Is there a specific time to chop them down? At night or during lights on? Does it matter at all? Of course I plan on washing immediately after chopping so I originally planned on chopping during the lights on period around in the afternoon.

2. When Hang drying (after wash) should they be hung in the dark or light? Does this matter?

3. After manicuring I'll be placing them in jars. Should the jars be kept in the dark or light? Does this matter as well?

Its been a wonderful journey for my first high brix grow and I can't thank the brix gang enough for all your help and valuable input. If there are last tidbits or advice I'd welcome them! So close!!

Piiiiiiiiics.

Also alot of that stuff that you're asking about lights on or off at harvest, etc. Etc. People will tell you it matters, it doesn't. Not with the HBB. Cut your trees down, hang them up while still on the branches, if you're in a moderately humid climate, take the main fan leaves off the ones with an actual stem. Wait till you can pluck the buds off with a little snap and theyre done drying. OH bud washing, very important but you seem to understand that.

That's some Beautiful produce my friend. I wish I had paid more attention to my c99 seedling. Drowned her by forgetting I watered her and watered her a second time for that day. Was just a few days old.

Looks like there's quite a few white hairs still. What week post flip are they on? What date do you intend on harvesting?

Pistil test:

C99 - 80% red pistils, 20% white (the pic doesn't really show this but trust me)
CNH - 60% red pistils
LSD - 30% red pistils

Trichome test

C99 - 50% amber 50% milky
CNH - 25% amber 75% milky
LSD - 10 % amber 90% milky

Well the trichs don't lie. That seems crazy fast but I've never grown any of those. Although I do have a LSD seedling going right now.

Gorgeous colors on those. Those are flowers I'd love to have in the bed in front of our house. Add to the collage of plants and welded lawn art for us and the Amish to enjoy.
 
Last night I took brix readings of the 5 plants in bloom.

Hey gang, I am reposting this from my journal and would like some of your advise on taking brix levels.

Here are the parameters:

Readings were taken 4 hours after lights on.

Three fan leaves were taken from the lower canopy.

Rolled them up and crushed them in a clean vise.

One drop of leaf juice on refractometer.

Post flip 38 days

Gave a drink 1 day ago...both Cat drenches are done

Headband OG
Blue dream
Bubblegum



HBOG C1. 12 brix
HBOG C2. 11 brix
BD C2. 10 brix
BD C3. 8.5 brix
BG C3 8 brix

Now I was curious if brix levels would be different if I used better looking leaves from the top canopy, so I did just that on the last two plants in the list above that were in the 8's to see.

BD C3. 10 brix
BG C3 13.5 brix

Seems were you take the leaves from makes a difference.

I don't flush. It's not necessary.

I chop in the morning...usually lights just came on.

I hang in my grow room...with the lights on, but that's more of necessity.

Filled jars should be in a cool dark place.

Always take your readings the same way every time. Also, make sure to use healthy, vibrant tissue for the sample and make sure it is crushed thoroughly.

I'm wanting to do a Super Drench on the bubblgum and blue dream.....I think they'll go crazy.

I believe the Leafs used for the SAP Readings should be taken from the middle,
Not New leafs (still pulling nutrients) Not Older leafs, these have less mosture
and give a higher reading.

I Have been told to take newest fully mature leaves, this is usually somewhere
in the middle area closer to the top.

At least this is how I understand it, could be wrong but think this to be correct

I want a spectrometer so I can see how much my plants hate me xD guarantee they're not above an 8.

Thanks Doc! Will do. The super Drench is next on deck....first time I've tried one
