Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Check out PotChimp's threads he has had to deal with it a few times. It is a systemic virus that is usually transferred from tobacco products to other plants. Symptoms are usually variegated, scimitar leaves. It can be passed from plant to plant and from what I have read you can only get rid of it by culling what you have or getting it to harvest and starting fresh. If you clone from a plant that has it the clones will carry it as well. I do not think it kills plants (unless in extreme cases maybe) but it will negatively effect yield.

Fuck fuck fuck. 3 month into vegging these plants... it's really a bummer having to cull this girl but I'll go check out PotChimps threads and see

I do not see the tell tale scimitar leaves so it may just be something else. Drop a pic in his thread and see what he thinks. You could run it to completion just be careful not to contaminate the next generation. Best of luck.

Yes, Colorado, ..what Yeti said. She may be OK, don't panic just yet. I can only say what I've seen myself, and from time to time , every few crops a plant will have a couple leaves , with sections of yellowing like that, just like your pics. I just remove /prune those affected leaves , and see what happens. Spray with some DeStress right after, see how it responds. Cheers , and let us know .:high-five:

Ok luckily I did take clones waaaay before this started to appear so I think my next generation is good but ill go drop a pic inthere right now and see what he thinks. Thanks Yeti

I'll be honest I was freaking my shit and the anxiety was out the roof. I will say that the yellowing been on one leaf for a good amount of time and hasn't really gone to other parts of the plant of anything. I will cull the leaves that look affected and see if that helps plus I could have over fed her a bit here in veg.

I just don't want this girl to go to waste when she has soooo much potential!

You're welcome. The anxiety does kick in pretty hard when things take an unexpected turn. Like Duggs said though I would not worry too much. I have a strain that started doing that in flower but the leaves didnt curve. It has been growing rather well so I think it is just in the genetics. The one it is on had other leaf mutations early on in life so I think they may be related on mine.

Ok that makes sense. And on mygirl it is only happening on 1 branch as well and hasn't gone to any others yet and it's been a solid week or so. I just kinda left it and thought it would go away but it hasn't and that's why I started to worry a bit lol. I'm going to take those gross dying leaves off and see what she does after that

What Duggan said Yeti. Nick those leaves that look funky, hit with some light distress and back off the drench concentrations a bit for a while. I had one do similar 2 runs back and it turned out fantastic. If it subsides, you're good. If it perpetuates, do yourself a favor and suck it up and cut it.

Brix is a sign of health. Higher brix=better health. Brix over 12 means no pests and no spraying for pests.

Saying you want more buds but aren't concerned about higher quality is what you're saying, even though you probably don't realize it.

As of right now, there is still a market for big, red, tasteless apples. The government buys them for schools, prisons and the military. But you would never choose one of those chalky apples if you've tasted a really nice high brix apple.

Same with carrots.

Prohibition has created some really bizarre practices for growers. Yield becomes the most important fact, because even low grade cannabis can be sold for profit. The higher the yield per plant, the more money you make. I get that.

We saw this during prohibition with alcohol. Many folks were distilling their own booze at home or in the barn or woods. It definitely got people drunk. Many people made fortunes on illegal booze but the quality would not be tolerated today.

When pot prohibition is lifted, hydroponics won't be very popular, and what we consider decent weed today won't be served anywhere. I'm planning on making my living as a legal grower of ultra high quality cannabis. I don't care about plant yield, although mine is quite good. I demand quality, and so will everybody in the near future.

Doc Bud, you have some awesome journals an pics too that are really great to read. As you can see I'm fairly new here at 420.
Currently I am on my 2nd Grow and just reading your stuff has taught me a lot. I'm just and old timer..lol who loves our medicine and to learn more on how to grow it since I'll be retireing in a few months. I'll be keeping tabs on your journals and glad 420 has people like you who will help when needed. Thank-You and Good Luck!!

Will do, thanks for the advise! I'm hoping she will turn out like yours and be fantastic because no one likes to cull a plant...

Culling is practicing good gardening IMO, it's just not always the most fun haha

Look at that Bubblegum tho , looks mighty fine! Wish I could try some but got my wisdom teeth out a few days ago and no smoking for a bit

Not going to lie, the yellowing looks like tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). Just on half of the two leaves...thats what I see.

:passitleft:

Yeah, I'm with Nis. I saw it too, but I didn't want to cause any anxiety. :cheesygrinsmiley: The second pic clearly has a scimitar leaf, which is what's disturbing. There's more than one cause for leaves that fade to yellow and bend to one side, of course, so like Duggs said, don' get all worried n stuff. Even if it's TMV, it won't kill your plant and it doesn't travel quickly to other plants. But it will travel. So, watch it and try to keep it from touching other plants until you can figure out what's going on.

Well I plucked the affected leaves and too dressed her with epsoms yesterday and this morning she is peeking up looking very happy! Hopefully she will bounce back and won't have too many issues

Doc, or anyone else :) LeafWash(LW) How long until next foliar? Also, can (do you suggest)you Piggy-back LW with any other foliar?

It's a stand alone product. I'd wait at least 3 days before spraying anything again, preferably a week. Leaf Wash does feed the soil, just not as much or as well as the other products.

It does kill bugs and clean the leaves off for better photosynthesis, however.

I've sprayed 3 times so far, 3-4 days between. The leaves have more of a shine now. They just look healthier, now this grow is last using AN nutes. I got seedlings up, week old. Only thing I gave so far is roots, thought about giving 1/4 transplant, do you guys think that's about right. Or should I wait another week till I get 4 or 5 sets of leaves before starting to give kit

Yes, wait. Very young/small plants do NOT need anything from our kit except the soil and some water. When you start to give your girls 'liquids' from the 'kit', start with 1/4 Transplant OK. Then begin misting every week to ten days with Brix. After you begin with the Drenches (GE, Transplant) alternate them throughout veg and bloom until it's time for the CAT series OK! Cheers and have an awesome Sunday Buck!
