Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Aloha doc hope all is well. Do you know anything about mossaic virus and cannabis? Had a crazy blowout earlier this year after taking in a clone from another garden. Had to exterminate All my plants, clean everything and start fresh. A good friend said it was TMV. I believed him and took action.

Now, everything rolling smoothly, plants are about a month in looking great, then last week I sprayed Brix and within a few days I'm noticing some slightly strange looking plants. Symptoms vary and yet are similar. Not affecting all my plants the same. Some are perfect, others have slight chlorosis, other with a bit of upward leaf cur/taco on lower leaves. A few hooked/variegated leaves as well. If I wasn't used to seeing perfect plants I wouldnt be concerned but it's all a bit strange. Plants got their first feeding this morning, a bit of extra tea and a good splash of transplant to go with their energy breakfast. Truly hoping that straightens everything out.

If not TMV the only thing that seems like a possibility is broad mites, which I've scoped for unsuccessfully.

Fingers crossed that they are just hungry and strange to begin with lol.

Don't really have good pics but I'll try post a few.

Is it in the soil?

A thorough bleach spraying, new soil, soak the pots in bleach or get new ones....that's the only way to avoid TMV,.

I will intake seeds into my garden but if I took in a cutting well... I am just not too comfortable doing that. Of course if someone offered me legit GG#4, pre 98 Bubba, pre 2000 Kali and a few others I would take it. If someone ever offers you a cut of the Twister take it. You will probably love it as much as I do. But any immigrant would stay by itself for awhile. The great thing about having a lot of smaller LED lights is I can run a quarantine closet. Just gotta keep a set of slippers for that room and wash arms and be careful so you don't drag critters to the main grow. If it was infested with something I would dip the whole clone and drench the soil with a nasty chem pesticide like forbid 4f. And then I would clone after I was sure it was pest free. Of course I would never flower the mom after giving her pesticide. Those pesticides stay for months in the plant tissue.
But I am very wary of taking anything other than seed from someone. All I read about are horror stories.

For TMV prevention I avoid any smoking in the grow and I do not smoke cigarettes. I don't smoke cigarettes at all so that part is very easy. I am really hoping that it is not TMV or BMites. I hope it is just something easy to fix or they just grow out of it.

My helper got some GG#4 clones from the last cannabis cup.

the others have brought the most vicious mites you could ever have. We're trying to kill them right now.

Hey Doc...

Have the directions for transplanting a clone to kit soil changed since the first page of your "In The Lab" thread?

1OZ Transplant/Gallon water. Then 1 pint for the 1gallon pot? Dust hole with Roots of course.

Thank you. Post was pretty old, so I figured I had better ask first.

Yes! If you look in my signature, you'll find a link to the latest instructions.

You won't kill them with the Transplant Drench, but it isn't necessary at all anymore.

Doc. Have you tried SM-90 for the mites? It's mostly coriander oil. Some make their own using cilantro. The SM 90 Worked great after my friend gave me more than I ask for. :)

I haven't tried that, Ziggy.

I have several products to use. It's just super tedious and despite all the time spent trying to kill them, when success is finally achieved it doesn't actually put you ahead....just keeps you from getting behind.

Mites are like government, police and school admin all rolled into one. They do nothing but irritate.

Ya, I hear that Doc.! :high-five:

Parasites.

Indeed!! They irritate and consume mass quantities of green.....hard earned green:smokin:

And they grin and sneer at us about it, from their comfortable cocoon of entitlement and perks. Kinda pisses a guy off. I'd like to send a few million of them home, sell their buildings and stuff ... let 'em pass food through a window for awhile ... learn some f'n humility.

Doc several years ago I had some of the vicious mites you are talking about. Nothing, nothing even dented them. I had finally had enough! I pulled down my last mite harvest and then went to town cleaning everything. I tossed all but three small veg plants of each type. I found a cocktail that worked for me. But...it definitely delayed me.

I found on the bay a reputable seller and bought small amounts of three miticides. Well actually what they did was sell a plastic pipette for 30 bucks and it came with "free samples" of 3 miticides, Forbid4F, Floramite SC, and Avid. All of them nasty and all of them prohibitively expensive. But buying in these small 1-3oz containers , he made a profit and I got my coctail. I sprayed every surface and dunked the plants in the solution and soil drenched them. One miticide every three days in rotation. At the end of the second miticide nothing was to be seen and after the third I have been mite free ever since.

Of course I never flowered those small veg plants. Instead I cloned them and then threw them away, those miticides just persist too long. I threw away the clothes and resiprator cartridges also. In the end I am very happy I went that route. I cannot abide by pests! Even if it means basically shutting down for a few weeks in the end the added quality and yield more than made up for the loss in time. I feel I would do the same thing again. But I haven't taken in any new clones from anyone else since that happened.

Misery loves company, but I'm very sorry to hear of the mites. I'd say, "Welcome to my world.", but I know you'll get a handle on them ASAP. Nothing, and I mean nothing I'm willing to use, has stopped them here. My plants with the highest brix readings ever still had plenty of mite problems. Go get 'em! Put the fear of Doc in them. If you can make them suffer along the way, even better. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Just putting the information out there... If you want to take pictures that show more detail than what your camera is currently capable of... Go into the camera setting and increase the sharpness from the default settings. From the factory cameras are set to use half of the advertised megapixel rating per photo. This is done so that your memory card has more space for more pictures.

Also, the term "Full Auto" refers to the camera's automatic flash setting and the brightness. Feel free to read your camera's user manual for additional information.

I've got a whole drawer full of miticides, many of which are 3 or more years old. I suspect that these mites have been sprayed with every poison available enough to have built up a pretty high tolerance.

I'll stick to natural products, mostly oils, as they don't build up a tolerance to that.

I'll win. These are just nasty bastards and the Bloodmeal in the soil has given them an opportunity.

Physical removal, along with horticultural oils is my strategy. It will work.
