Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hi All High Brixers. My first grow (out of college) is coming along spectacular. I cannot believe I didn't do this so long ago! Anyways todays question is about stem color. My plants ( I have 2 of them) look awesome. One of them is green all over, but the other has these insanely purple stems--which seem to get more purpley everyday. She just had an energy drink about 6 days ago and i'm getting ready to re-charge the soil. Is this purple some type of magnesium efficiency? Or should I leave her be? Pics below...Thanks!!

I think everything looks great! The pics you shared don't show that much purple, except on a couple petioles. It could be several things:

1. characteristic of the strain...only really high brix readings will show green everywhere on some strains.
2. Cool root zone inhibiting phosphorus uptake and decreasing microbial action. Get the containers off a cold floor or slab if they are on one.
3. The need to feed, especially foliar feed

But seriously, your plant has perky leaves and good structure. You're going to have a nice harvest for sure. Well done.

What kind of lighting are you using?

Thanks Doc! :) I've been obsessing over getting it right, so that gives me even more encouragement. I'll likely be ordering a bigger kit soon because I took to the garden with the unused soil (since i'm only growing 2 plants).

I'm using the DormGrow G8-600 and a 90 watt UFO. I saw your endorsement and immediately went for it. I got my first utility bill and ended up adding another 90 watt UFO recently...for...symmetry :) These lights are awesome! I see what you're doing with the Gavita's and i'm tempted, but my space is small (only a 4x2 tent) and this is all still new to me.

Cheers Doc!

That's a nice light for sure. There's one in the veg room covering a 2x4 tray very nicely, minus the UFO. Perfect for a tent like yours.

Just keep doing what you're doing and things should work out very well for you. If you're really worried about the purple petiole, you could try upping feedings just a bit and do the foliars once a week each. Don't go too much on the drenches, just maybe 30% more at most...and that's really getting picky. All things considered you have really nice plants!

I'll be starting a new journal on the Advanced LED's I'm demo'ing...so this journal won't have much travel for a while. But here's what they look like today.

Harvest tonite and tomorrow and I'll be done with that and have 3 lemon paki's and 3 Colombian Red's under the Advanced 650's.

Hello everyone! Question for you Doc...... i still have a crap ton of organic amendments left from before the kit and was going to do a 6 5 3 mix. I have the limeston, srf, gypsum, pro mix, ewc, biochar, azomite, and some year old extreme mycos, I was wondering how much biochar and azomite to use, and if the old myco is still good to use?
.
I have used that mix with espoma tomato tone before and the plants turned out great but i cant remember how much of everything i used. I have no more tomatoe tone left so i was wondering what else i should put in there. Trying for a water only mix. I have fish meal, fish bone meal, crab meal, kelp and alfalfa, neem, shrimp meal, cottonseed, langbeinite, bat quano, seabird quano. What would you put in there and how much? Was hoping to only add one or two of those ingredients. I was thinking a bag of ancient forest also. Or anything else you recommend?

Whatever you mix up, no more than 1 cup per bag of soil. I'd use 6-5-3, 4 tbspn biochar, 2 tblspn azomite, all the mycos. Use fishy ferts every now and then. You'll do better that way, because early root development won't be fried by such a hot soil.

I think the only reason i threw in the tomatoe tone last time i did the 6 5 3 was because of all the beneficial bacteria it had in it. I grew 818 headband in it and it turned out awesome with only water. I did use the brix on it a couple times and it did nothing bad to it that i could tell. Do you think a bag of ancient forest would be a waste of money?
