Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Evenin all, OK, that's it...Doc, i'm gonna stick a thermometer in the bottom of one of my pots, just to see. The number you gave of 66F could be an issue for me , not sure. I have them on large plant trollies , that sit about 2,1/2" off the painted concrete floor. I've never addressed this issue before,....perhaps i should start. Thanks for the info Doc. and Capn! :thumb:

I should be more clear about this. Ideal root temps are 68 degrees. 66 degrees is the lower end of acceptable. Once you go below that you start to see problems.

Little things like this make a big difference in living soil. Their activity really drops off at the low end and pathogens start to form when things get too hot.

If your room temps are solid, soil temps will be in range too....unless you're competing with a cold concrete slab or a warm concrete wall, both of which I have in my space. Styrofoam solves the problem on the wall, as does an air gap with the floor.

Environment. Invest in it. Improve it. Gain the ability to control it and experiment with different temps. Try to move past "taming" your environment and instead work towards control.

Get those suckers up off the floor! Home de Pot has nice thick styrofoam that works very well. If your roots are even 1 or 2 degrees below 66 the uptake of phosphorus and potassium will be greatly hindered and microbial action in general will be much, much less.

Environment! nothing is more important.

As to the terps and taste....just wait. It's going to change the game for you and your friends.

The smell is UNREAL. This is like candy! I can't stop sniffing the stuff.

So tonight I found this going on....is this a magnesium def showing up, or is this the leaves curling to try to shade from the light? If it's mag, how much epsom should I used in 18 gallons of soil?

Mornin Capn,....yes , it's Mg. Start very next drink with one teaspoon/gal. of epsoms for two or three times , then none for one or two , then back to one teaspoon /gal. this will set them straight. Only one teaspoon /gal. though, no stronger! cheers.

Duggan..this is tsp/gal of what, water or soil? :)

Hey Doc, this is a bit off topic but i grew in 6-5-3 soil mix last year outdoors and covered it over the winter with tarps. I am wondering how i should go about re amending the soil? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Here we see some brand new lights! Gavita Pro 1000e series. The finest lighting for growing. Period. They weigh much less than an LED panel, cost about 40% as much AND put out more light. I'll start a journal showcasing these lights soon. I'm testing temps, etc.

Lemon Paki and one Grape Stomper under the brand new Advanced 650's. I'll be starting a journal to showcase these lights as well.

Notice how we have very large plants with no support? That's calcium folks.

Doc, have you grown anything yet with the Gravitas or you know people that have? They look interesting :)
I haven't grown anything with these, but I have a close associate who uses them and I'm in his garden all the time, so I'm very familiar with them.

I know what they can do and am super excited. We should all see another level pretty soon. They will definitely outperform the LED's. They also use about 30 to 40% more electricity. I may end up using one on the mover at some point, but the first use will be legendary overkill, per usual.

I may go up to 15 gallons too. Haven't decided yet.

Thanks, duggan. I appreciate the guidance! Would a foliar with straight epsoms be helpful?

Mornin Capn, like Doc said , spraying with Epsoms has a "laxative effect " on the plant, not good .Use it in your regular feed water , but only as directed. (one teaspn/gal. water). It helps to completley dissolve the Epsoms in a glass of warm water then pour into your feed water , this is better than putting in all those undesolved chunks . Only two or three times in a row, then give nothing for a time or two....we don't want a build up of Mg. , it has a very negative effect on nutrient uptake if you saturate the soil with it and actually will do more harm than good . Cheers Capn.

Hey doc what will they veg in until root bound if your throwi them in 15's?.......very excited to see these lights in action.....so you will have two over your standard 3x6?

Man those new lights are super badass Doc. I was just chatting with a guy that has rooms full of them, he loves them. That grape stommper looks pretty interesting. Not running Grape Ape any more bro??

I've got 3 Grape Apes getting ready to go under the Gavita's, along with 3 Colombians and maybe sumpin else.

I'm impressed with the lights in that I had them both on for two days and the temps were pretty much spot on. They don't put out as much heat as you'd think, even though they aren't vented.

I may lower my tray and raise the lights another 6 inches if I don't use the mover, which would gain another foot in headroom.
