Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Mrbubbles87, I'm running a 4x4 perpetual, too, and converted on the fly to high brix. The link is in my signature.

Thanks! I'll check it out.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Thanks for taking a look at it Doc. I thought it looked pretty good but I wasn't exactly sure what I was seeing lol. Would you recommend using ph down to get it from 8 to 7 or leaving it out / air bubbling for 24hrs first?

Also, sorry for not being more specific but I was asking more about transplanting. I think any2's journal may have answered this as I saw him go from 1gal to 7gal. I'm using an aero cloner and I wasn't sure if it would be best to put them directly in their final pot 7 gal pot or if I could go to a 3gal and then transplant to a 7gal. I guess the real question here is veg time with your system. Right now my perpetual idea is to veg clones for 2 weeks in my aero cloner after showing roots and then put them directly into flower. I don't think that's realistic with your system because it seems like its really geared towards larger plants whereas my current plan is more for small to medium sized plants. I'm thinking maybe 2-4 plants per 4x4 maybe under a SCROG but then were getting into the large plant vs small plant debate lol.

I'll check into more of curso's journals and see if I can get a better idea of how he runs a perpetual on a tent with your system.

Do not pH your water unless you're in hydro. No exceptions.

Aerocloners create roots very fast, but those roots aren't necessarily adapted to soil.....so I recommend getting them in small containers for a couple weeks to get some dirt roots going.

Just wanted to say thanks for the tidbit on a water quality report. I've been wondering the exact makeup of my tap water for quite some time and have considered having it tested. I never thought to google water quality reports for my area. Turns out they release an annual one for my area lol. I'm not quite sure how to read my report exactly. Any chance you could take a look at it and tell me what you think?

Still trying to figure out the logistics of switching over to your system mid perpetual. I'm going to be flowering in a 4x4 tent. I know you recommend 7gal pots. How many would you grow in this space with these size pots or can I go smaller? Also, wondering if I would go straight from an aero cloner to the larger pot?

Thanks again for all you do Doc! Pics look amazing as usual :D

There are a few way's to do what you are looking for in a 4x4 if you have an extra area to veg in. I use a 2x4x5 with a 96x3w led in there. The easiest is 6 flowering 6 vegging, that's 39 gallons of soil roughly half if you used 30lbs of castings. Leaving the other half to cook while the plants veg in 2 gl. When you harvest/transplant/flip you're using the 2nd half of the soil for the new 6...Leaving the first half to cook for the next vegging round. That's how I used to run my 4x4. Currently I am doing set's of 3 30 days apart. This is a new thing I'm trying, so I'll let ya know in like april of next year if it's working out well or not.

If you have any other questions how I run my tent's feel free to stop by and ask, while I do bite...its not to often...lol

Doc....That Lemon Paki...man I can smell that all the way over here. WOW, just WOW!!!

This is the greasiest, sleaziest, sluttiest LP I've grown yet! If I take a hit larger than I can possibly take, I get a small expansion cough. Small hits....not much different than vaping.

Went out with 2 people who smoke a fair bit of weed....maybe once or twice a week.....guys wife said, "He can smoke anyone under the table." Well, we didn't try to smoke him under the table, but both he and his wife were TRIPPIN after 3 or 4 hits each. I mean, we had to talk them down!

This latest batch is wicked strong.....and brother! I have you to thank for that! I did a late cat-drench on them....about week 8 for a 10 week strain. It made a huge difference, and that was YOUR idea! :high-five:

Awesome!!! I had a flavor profile missing on my palate I'm sure you were missing it too. It wasn't like bad or anything, just missing. It was to me like making this wonderfully seasoned in the pan dish and not finishing it with a pinch of salt just to brighten it up that little bit.

This is what its all about for me, sharing the info (when its good info) and when it all works out well for everyone that's a huge bonus :high-five:

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

One more thing...sry crazy waxy morning here my thoughts are kinda scattered today.

None of this information we are passing would be even possible with you and your kit findings Doc. Granted that's a given, but have to point it out every now an then :high-five:

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I've been sampling my high brix Jamaican Dreams, finishing in the next two weeks. The difference in flavor and aroma between these and the one in mineralized soil is unmistakeable. It isn't a subtle improvement - these buds reek. Entirely new aromas are present. These have a floral overtone in addition to the fruit.

I've been reading the talk about high brix and flavinoids, but now I've had the same experience. Seriously, folks, high brix soil is the way to go. Wow.

Incidently, I hit my Hawaiian and Kerala with a dose of Cat drench this week (just a couple weeks before finish) - same as you guys. The Kerala in high brix responded by producing the first calyx swelling I've seen from them - I'm still watching the Hawaiian in mineralized soil.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

So 2 weeks prior to finish approx a 1 time late cat drench is the ticket and those calyx swells in some of Curso's pics are just crazy. Doc....what is the make up of cat drench and how do you think scientifically it is improving the end result?

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Sulfur bro ;) Things need salt to produce flavor to us funny humans ;)

Hmm, so epsom salts would have a similar effect ... ?

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Off topic question for you Doc;

From experience we know to start checking our plants real good at the 7th week of flowering for bud rot.

We have been good at detecting it earlier and earlier.

I have seen the vids and your comment on using peroxide, however the DarkStar that has it isn't ready to harvest yet.

My partner got really mad and cut a bud about as big and thick as a .5 ltr bottle of water before I could say lets try a spray.

Question is, would a peroxide mix be OK to spray on a budding plant if the rot is noticed early enough? Or maybe even dip it in a pail with the peroxide mix and swish it around a bit?

We cut out the very worst and still have a nice bud left that will be quick dried. This bud is really moist.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Kinda not as strong though. I tried that too. Mg is the down side to using Epsom salt...Means you might have to flush if you dont it'll make you produce a tad harsh.

Cations (Positively charged ions) stimulate reproductive growth in the plant:

Nh4 (ammonium), Phosphates, Sulphates, these are all positively charged ions and stimulate reproductive growth.

Anions (negatively charged ions) stimulate vegetative growth:

N03 (nitrate) is the main one we're concerned with.

So, the Cationic Drench is composed of ammonium sulphate and phosphate, along with fishy ferts.
Energy, on the other hand, is full of Calcium Nitrate and fishy ferts.

The sprays also work together....gotta know which one to spray and when.

Good question.....I don't really know, but you could give it a try?

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hey you guys using the late bloom cat drench - is that the last feeding and water till chop? Or finish on transplant or energy? I was thinking week 7 transplant, water, cat drench, water, then.....? Seems like a 8 week strain might go 10 in HB so this is all assuming something like that/adjust per situation.
