Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc will you be combining LED and hps together? It was the first time for me doing that in the hunger games grow and I really think it was a good combo.

I've always wanted to cover the ceiling with lights, but these are so strong that two of them over a 4x8 tray should be more than adequate to grow outdoor sized plants indoors.

They are a step up from LED's. Much less expensive to purchase but they do draw more amps.

I've done some extensive research on these double ended bulbs & if the results are to be believed then they do in fact out perform LEDs

No question. I've got a close associate who uses them so I've seen them up close and personal. DEHPS is the pinnacle of "old" tech right now and LED is rapidly catching up. Indoor growers have NEVER had it so good as we do right now!

Yea, you basically have all these different light companies trying to out do each other. So we are consistently seeing newer and better improved gear for sure

Question for you Doc and anyone else who wants to chime in. How soon do you start feeding drenches to newly planted clones? I have been waiting for 5 sets of leaves like for seedlings but I am starting to think that's a little bit too long by the way they have been growing, even though they seem to never stop growing from the second I chop them.

Well, I give a weak transplant drench when I plant them. Water+1/4-strength transplant next time, then you should be fine after that to start a drench regimen (10 days or so). Clones are already sort of used to it.

Doc, wondering if you'd elaborate a bit on the perfect time to apply the (1st) Cat Drench. I've read and reread the instructions, various comments, examples (photos) of flowering plants that are "ready", but....

The instructions state: "third week of bud set"; I see pics of buds (ready for a CD)of varying size, and recently read one of your posts (In the Lab, I believe) where you applied the CD on the "third week, 2nd day of 12/12".

I get that we want the buds 'formed', but would you elaborate on what this means? Do you look for a certain size? Qty of buds up/down the plant? Long vs short pistils?

Here are some pics of a Liberty Haze(1st) and Green Crack. The GC is a week younger (from seeds) than the LH, but both are on day 21 since switching to 12/12. 7 gal pots. Thanks.

Your plants are looking really nice , so far. It's too early IMO for the CD. The clusters look like the first wave and are too small and underdeveloped yet....wait another week to 10 days, till the clusters are firming up and a little bigger, then give the CD. This is what i would do. Others may say different , but i've found it's better given in between week 4-5 of bloom start, not flip .Cheers gang!

duggan, thanks for the input. Could you elaborate on the comments - "too small and underdeveloped..." wait till they "firm(ing) up and (are) a little bigger". Somewhat subjective. Can you be a little more precise? For example: "wait until the buds are about 1" in dia."

I know a lot of it is "feel", but one time I asked Doc (provided pics) and he said I was too late! Just trying to dial it in. :thanks:

OK....wait another week to 10 days. They, the clusters look brand new , perhaps a week to 10 days old ....too young and small, it's feel i guess, that's why i say wait till week 4-5...then you know your good and that's perfect timing IMO. You will still have lots of time for em to finish on GE and your buds will get just as gooey and perhaps a lil larger. I'm pretty sure most of the gang would agree, it's just about a week to 10 days early for it . hope i've helped....cheers MMM. Doc will chime in any time now and give you his opinion.

While I have little first-hand experience, from all the HB journals I've read, you are still a week or two from Cat. I think you want those buds about twice their current size. Some do it earlier / some do it later. IMO, you want buds with a little bulk/density to them - not just fresh pistils but with more calyx development.

Hey all you Rib steak lovers out there....picked myself up a treat today at the grocery store...was on sale...:blunt:
