Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I almost feel bad for nit picking like that, especially when the plants look the way they do. I am blown away. Thanks again

Re: The slippery stuff...

Your water situation sounds ideal. I'm very jealous.

Please don't use a surfactant in the foliar sprays. They are painstakingly designed to be effective exactly as they are.

Thanks Doc, Major, and VanDank. I'll be sure to leave any surfactants out of my foliar regiment.

Hi Doc,

I'm growing outside and leaves of my plants all curl up at noon when Sun shines really strong. Later they curl back to normal. I'm growing in white pots (to minimize heat stress) in organic soil. Do you think I should add epsom salt? Can I use medical grade? I guess it is better than those regular ones available in gardening stores.
I read it's better to use it in foliar spray. What amount do you recommend for 1 Ltr water and how often?? Foliar and irrigate can be the same mix?

Thanks!

The leaves curl up like that because photosynthesis is so intense that the leaves just can't take it anymore, so they shy away from the light. In other words, the plant is blooming furiously and the limiting factors of soil and container size are starting to show themselves.

too much heat, too much light, coupled with a hyperactive soil biota and a plant that is being "pushed" by foliars will cause this.

Limiting factors begin to show up, namely Mag deficiency-like stuff.

It's a good sign in this context. epsoms will boost it and allow even more buds and resin.

MgSO4 is MgSO4 whether from a drug/grocery store or a medical lab lol...use it! Id recommend just watering it in tho :)

Don't foliar spray it. It acts like a laxative....seriously. Just top dress a bit of it.

However, from your description it doesn't sound like Mg deficiency, it merely sounds like the plant is getting too much light and/or heat.

Since the epsom salts are going to eventually come into contact with dirt (which is dirty) there really isn't much point in using medical grade Epsom salts. (I didn't know there was such a thing) The stuff you get in the garden shop or in RiteAid is perfectly fine.

Hey Doc. Can I get your thoughts on what this might be? Or anyone else?

Week 4 flower. Lower leaves not just fan leaves. They become lime yellow then fall off.

Curious what Doc will say, but mine did that too. I ran out of GE and went to much bigger pots when I flipped, and feel I didn't support the growth spurt of flower with enough growth energy. We had plenty of reproductive energy for buds in Trans, and between that and Tea and 2 yummy foliars they did pretty good, but couldn't resist chomping the shit out of their own leaves (nitrogen deficiency). By the time I realized my problem I was already on schedule for 2 cat drenches. Now for the last month they've had nothing but GE practically and seem to want to push that fresh green through. However the damage was done long ago and now they are on their death rattle anyway, so ugly leaves are gonna be ugly.

I've also seen leaves like that in a choked canopy. (lack of air, light)

Your leaves in general look much better than mine tho lol

Well I haven't used any nutes this entire run because I have a 6 month blend of organic soil. Also I'm growing with swick watering so they don't get water from the top but maybe once a month just to move microbes a bit. Growth and budding to this point has been stellar. I'm just wondering if this is potassium maybe?
My soil is:

2 KIS Organics nute packs which consist of

Organics Microbe Catalyst, Organic Alfalfa Meal, Organic Fish Bone Meal, Organic Crustacean Meal, Organic Kelp Meal, Organic Fish Meal, Glacial Rock Dust, Soft Rock Phosphate, Oyster Shell Flour, Ahimsa Organics Neem Cake and Karanja Cake, Gypsum, Natural Calcite, Mycorrhiza, and Beneficial Microbes.

Mixed With

1 bag Roots! Organics soil
1 bale sphagnum peat moss
1 huge bag perlite

Wow HK...sounds like the last supper over there....lots of stuff in your soil! I used to grow like that too...before 6/5/3 and then the "kit".What ya plan on doing next run?...maybe put an order in from Doc? Great idea eh....know what bothers me about mixes like that?....ya never really know if you've got it right. I tried it like that for many yrs. and finally gave it up for a much more easy and reliable system..."The Kit"..cheers HK.

Thanx for the answer Doc!

'Top dress' means I put directly on the soil? Don't need to mix with water?
If I mix with water, what dosage do you recommend?

Thanks again

my last few grows before the current HB grow were in reused amended supersoil.

and for 2 of those grows, I just pulled out the rootball, tossed in some nutes and minerals and repotted new plants. I had no problems at all. I guess that is on the line of LOS.

QUESTION is has anyone done this with the KIT yet?

and Doc, is it worth a shot if no one has tried it yet? Pros cons?

Evenin HH, Doc and the Gang...one big problem with "pulling out the rootball" ! When i unwrap the Rootbuilder pots i use, it's a 26 gal. cylinder with very fine root hairs thru 99.9 % of the soil mass. It takes me quite a while to just get it managable for the next run or re-cooking. We essentially do what you said though HH . After it's cleaned out ,some of us break up some of the roots , toss them in...add maybe some amendment and a bit of "roots",some EWC, and away we go mix it up , let it cook and so on. Oh , did you mean cut the centre out where it was growing and do it that way? Cheers ,and have an awesome night.

I'm interested in this as well. My LOS no-till just gets chopped at the soil line and hopefully something else is already growing in the pot. But doesn't it feel like there should be a way Hash Hound? If only for three cycles.

It could be as simple as not getting enough light and the plant dropping them off. Or, it could be your soil has too much stuff in it and the roots are cooked.
