Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Me too ! My back plant will get it's fifth CD in the next couple days...so ya ...just a little tweekin goin on eh!:high-five:

Fifth? Wowzo! What concentration are you using? How far apart? Anything else in between?
I'm trying to decide on my Cat strategy. Since it is my first kit grow, I'll probably go with the instructions this time around.

Great choice Major. That back plant of mine is some wicked speciman. No burnt tips yet after four CD's. So she's gettin a fifth. I haven't seen the resin with her yet and it bothers me so she's gettin CD's. till i see resin or burnt tips...whatever comes first. As far as concentration...it's between 20-25 mls./4 gal's. distilled./26 gal. pot. She got (just speeking of back plant only) two CD's., then two drinks, water and 1/4 Trans. then CD again, then again, next one will be fifth since starting in with it.
Major, i gotta tel ya though pal,...this Sativa is like nothing i've seen. She has 26 gal's. of pure joy to thrive in. I'm starting to see what she will give me back...i like . Her stalk at soil level scares me ....so i shouldn't be surprised at her colas and such .
When i started this a long time ago, i've always tried to satisfy the "limiting factors" with growing in containers. Finding Doc. has completed my search for meeting that goal. I have achieved my goal and will prolly never smoke any other from now on. I'm sure that with what iv'e learned here on the mag. the produce i'm puffing is some of the best in the world. So many strains...not enough time! :Namaste:

Question for all you pros... I just started using 18/6 in veg and 3 hours before the lights go off all my plants start to droop a little. Only answer I could find is to change to 16/8 and I really don't want to do that. I was wondering if anyone here actually knows what causes this or if I should even be worried about it? Everything looks great other than that.

Temps and/or humidity getting a lil too high near the end of their day? I know mine get ready for bed about an hour before lights out...hmmm, anyone else?

whats your lighting bro?

When the photosynthesis saturation point is reached the plant will be less turgid. Im pretty sure thst is correct. Ill look for a reference.

The humidity is at 50 percent and the highest the temp gets is 80 at the canopy by the end of their day and I have plenty of air flow. Doesn't seem like that would be it but I cant think of anything else except the light is too bright. I have them 4 feet from 1000w mh in air cooled hood. Think maybe because the plants have maxed out the amount of energy they can store by that time?

I am using a 1000w Hortilux super blue mh, air cooled 8 inch hood in a 5x10 tent. The canopy is 4 feet from the light. The plants in question are mainly clones that have been rooted for a little over a week. They are really perky and looking awesome when I wake up and check on them until about 3 hours before lights out.

Mine usually started looking a little "sleepy" by the end of the day. I just figured it was their way of nodding off at lights out. The following morning they are up and at 'em, praying to the the light.

May i,...at this point in the cycle, the plant , as Srubbs said and Von D, she's getting ready for sleep. After a constant light regimen is in effect,...they know what's coming. Another reason why changing the photocycle can have a stressfull effect....she's just not ready for it and needs time to adjust. If youve ever watched a clip of "time laps photography" of how they grow, you can see them go up....then down,....up,...then down, and so on thru the course of 24 hrs. They always start to "fade" just before lites out.
I've wondered about this myself many times...it's almost like they get tired and need to sleep for a while...then the next morning , they are ready to go, again. Cheers gang!:circle-of-love:

Exactly...I don't think it is causing any harm its just hard to look at when they are soo healthy and green. lol

i bet they are still building a sufficient root system. you could calculate the light output and get a legit sense of your umol per area but sorry i dont know the math. i dont think your over illuminated.

you are though way in the red on VPD at 50%rh and 80°F.

Vapor Pressure Deficit ... I Don't know much about it but I added a humidifier.

It supposedly predicts the plants' ability to breath (transpire) under a given combination of temperature and humidity.
Over a wide range, it says the warmer it is, the higher the humidity should be.

Without going into a very long and boring explanation, it has to do with the fact that warmer air holds more water. So, if you're at 50% rH at 70 degrees and you don't add more water but raise the temp to 80 degrees the rH drops and now the plants must sweat profusely in order to keep the leaves nice and cool.

On the other hand, if rH is 100% with the lights on, the plants can't transpire very well, because the amount of water vapor in the air is equal to the water content of the leaves. Too moist=no growth, too dry=frantic sweating and loss of water by the plant just to keep the leaf temps under control.

VPD isn't something we really need to understand, although it certainly doesn't hurt! Basically, if you keep humidity around 50 to 60% at all times, the plants will be happy.

When the lights come on and the garden temps rise, rH falls, so we need to add moisture. On the other hand, when the lights go out, temps rapidly drop your rH can spike super high and the plants won't do well.

We simply need to control temps and keep them in the sweet spot for our favorite crop. There's no need for a physics lesson for our purposes.

While not perfectly linear, the chart shows a range for the VPD sweet spot of 50% RH at 60 degrees F, up to 80% RH at 90 degrees.
If nothing else, that's a great reason to keep temperatures down during bloom.

Question(s) of the day. I up canned two of the docs kit plants today into 7gs, the two tallest, a cbd og, and a stink bomb.

Was at slowes earlier today and they had a sale on cages , five fo five bucks. So, I got some.

Then I came home to my trim bin, so I got high. Then, I got high. Errrrr. ;)

Seriously, I smoked some crazy shit and came up with this idea

I'm under the impression that because I'm a second kit contestant that I get two questions per day. Scrubby how many kits are you on like fity?

Anyway, one, will the metal from the cage do anything bad in relation to the kit?

Standard metal/galvanized cages.

Two, is this a good idea, any one do this with LEDs and cages,, I'm sure I've seen pics...

Mucho gracious, Senor :~}

Tomato cages are a slick idea and have been used by others with great success. :thumb: I've considered it myself. :cheesygrinsmiley:
The metal is no issue, that I know of.

Niiiiiice, and quick, thank you, sir. I might make an adjustment or two but I see much potential for training. A couple I'm going to train, Doc's way. A few others I'm going to copy you. .I think the cages I'll use for your methods..or what I perceive yours are ;)

Thanks bud!!
