re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures
You could find pics of the cherry pie pages back....maybe 10 or 15 pages back. It looked beautiful, but performance was lackluster.
No one wanted it after trying it. It's not bad....tasted good, etc. Compared to everything else I run, people just thought it was boring. "Cherry pie....yeah....I was hoping for some Lemon Paki....do you have anything besides Cherry Pie?" Got sick of hearing that.
I'm not happy with the GSC so far either. Super tall, lanky, buds are forming, but kinda larpy. Not impressed. Same with Tahoe OG.
Now SFV OG....that's a keeper.
The more I grow, the more I find myself wanting plants that are landrace.....or at least pure.
Here's my theory: Prohibition has produced adaptational gardening methods....high yields, small spaces, hydroponics, etc. Naturally, some strains perform better under these circumstances than others.
Chemdawg family strains: Sour D/OG/headband seem to do really well in hydro. They were bred for that type of growing, and if you want classic taste and flavor, hydro delivers what people have come to expect.
On the other hand, these same strains grow differently in High Brix. Some might say "better," some might say worse....but one thing is clear, they're not the same as hydro so people are put off by it sometimes.
On the other hand....if you can get some pure genetics or at least simple, stabilized crosses, magic happens. When growing something "wild" that has roots that demand soil and minerals....not roots that were bred to like hyrdro....all of a sudden you've got weed that no one else has ever tasted...mind blowing stuff.
I think I'm going to try Mendo Purps after a large production run is over. It hasn't changed since the early 70's....should respond really well in high brix soil.
I'm working on a "fix" so that the sativa traits in everything don't dominate. Some people really like their indicas! Of course, you can get classic Indica buds from high brix.....just choose a pure indica to start with!
Hey Doc, was wondering if you have any photo's of the Cherry Pie and the GSC or if you have already posted some that I missed. I currently am running both these strains, as well as the SFV OG you mentioned, but I was curious what yours looked like in comparison to mine. The GSC I am running is frosty as all hell for being in the day 35 range, but the buds are tiny little things for as far along as it is. I was just curious if yours looked similar. My Cherry Pie on the other hand couldn't look better and is frosty and full. I just wanted to compare to see what yours looked like vs what mine are at.
