Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I have to agree 3 P900's in a tent would be pretty close to impossible to cool. Those are pretty big panels, they need some space to move some air. If all you have is hot air blowing into them, well you're more than likely going to have issues down the line.

I have 3 P450 in my 4x4 currently and have to do some creative hanging to keep the lights cool and happy.

Curso, Get back in that kitchen....we're all waiting for your delicious medibles..... :drool:

Hey shrike I have 3 and 7 gallon air pots.....is 3 to7 gonna be ok? It looks like the 7 is only a few inches wider and a few taller as well....almost seems like the 3 might b to big?

That's why I chose to go with 2 gal to 7 gal. The 3 gal just seemed like they would end up being a pain to upcan to the 7's. Going from 3's to 10's however, seems like a good choice for oh hai. I want to have anywhere from 4-7 plants growing in my tent and the 10's seemed a little too big for the upper limit of plants. This is my first grow however, and I might change things over time...

If my plants survive my first grow attempt, we can compare notes Shrike, hahahahah.

I can worry about the lights later. The airpots questions has been answered. Now just the temp and exhaust/co2 questions if anyone knows?

I made a custom intake and exhaust for my CLW880 similar to what I found on another forum. Right now I have just have the intake and exhaust both in the tent. If I move it so both the intake and exhaust are outside of the tent my temps drop to the mid 70s. If I raise my light and turn the exhaust fan up, I can get to the low 70's. Mind you this is with just under 500 watts in veg mode on a dry run with nothing in the tent.

I don't know if anything similar can be done with the platinum lights if heat is an issue? With the CLW880 footprint size is the issue, it's square.

I have a few questions while the soil cooks. Sorry if this has been asked before, there's literally hundreds of pages on this stuff spread throughout the forum and as a noob it can be a little overwhelming.

California Lightworks latest News/Blog post talks about optimal temperature for LED growers being 5-7 degrees higher due to the plants metabolism reacting differently because of the lack of IR light. They suggest LED growers run their tents with an air temp of 83-85F which they say is the same as the plant being under an HID at 78F. I'll be using the high brix kit, following instructions as best I can, with a CLW880 in a 4x4x7 tent. I can get temps to around 80-81, but in order to go higher i'd need to add another source of heat, even if it's from more light. For my first attempt, do you guys suggest I try to get it up to 83-85? Leave it alone at 80-81? Or lower it?

I've read over and over how important the environment is. Where I live it's very dry. It's difficult to raise humidity, even with a humidifier and various other methods unless I turn my exhaust fan to a very low setting. When turning down my exhaust fan, what am I looking for to know how low I can go? Am I looking for reduced levels of CO2? I have two exhale CO2 bags in the tent. I have a handheld temp, CO2, and humidity monitor to check levels. I have a Phresh 200CFM carbon filter going to a 160CFM 4 inch fan hooked up to a variac. The more I reduce my exhaust fan through the variac, the more desirable my temp and humidity levels get. How low can/should I go?

Pots. Being new to this and trying to do this the right way, I picked up some air pots in the following sizes: 1L Prop Cell, 1 gal equiv, 3 gal equiv, 7 gal equiv and 10 gal equivs. I'm thinking about starting with the 1L, going to the 3 gal equivs, then the 10 gal equivs which are actually 8 gallons. Does that sound ok? If I understand correctly, these pots stop the roots from circling. Should I still cut them the same way when transplanting?

Lighting. What do you guys think would happen with three P900s in a 4x4x7? Super plants? Or is that over the top?

The platinum LED has both IR and UV. The exhale bags are to raise CO2 levels but I don't know how much they will help you. If you are in a tent with that much light your exhaust fan will be running all the time and exhausting the CO2. With that much ventilation you will have adequate CO2 to grow some very nice plants. I'm with Curso, I too will have 1350 watts of LED panels and I'm concerned about the heat. Anymore I don't think you'll get value out of it.

^^^I agree with neikodog^^^

Doc's #1 commandment is:::Control your environment.

Heat is your friend, but it can be a wicked enemy, also. There are upper limits as to how much light you can have in a controlled grow before you get diminishing returns or even a downturn on yield. A tent is a lot smaller environment than having an entire room to work with, so heat will become a problem if you have too much light in the tent. And using those co2 bags or any co2 becomes useless if you have to constantly exhaust the air to maintain the environment.

:rofl::rofl:

My experience is to keep it about 78. I have Co2 enrichment and I keep it about 78. I have really bright lights, even over the HID tray.

Noble Worm Castings, 1-0-0. By which we mean 1.69-.16-.35
I guess its like trans fats, where you can have them below a threshold and not list them.

When I went to pick up my EWC from the "local" organic company in CO Springs, I spoke to the owner as he personally loaded and dished me 80lbs from the stacks in the warehouse. I stressed to him my concern that we have 0 K up in thar and he assured me of similar numbers. I'm gonna visit him for 200lbs soon just cuz they look and smell so goood (they smell like...water and earth.)

I've seen the product from some that was pretty impressive but personally never used. I'm a big dual 600 watt lumatek fan

Edit. Sorry I was well am extremely stoned and didn't refresh my page before my post. Please disregard

Hey doc and gang, i know this was covered somewhere already but I just picked up some promix thats over a yr old didnt you recommend adding some roots and tea in this situation or was it something else?

Hey AB....yeah I asked that question and I believe it's was and ounce of tea to the mix.....I know that's like half of what comes with kit.....I ended up identify mine as being still good only bout 6 months old so I didn't add it.....hope that helps.

Doc, do the various nutrients absorbed by the leaves from the foliars all go to the roots first then to the rest of the plant, or do some specific nutrients get utilized by various cells immediately?

Is it possible that males and females release different hormones into the soil that may prohibit or inhibit, additional males or females from forming if there are too many or too few?

Some of it gets used in the leaves, but most goes to the roots. Roots feed the plant, leaves feed the soil.....not 100% but those are their basic job descriptions.

As to the hormones, I have no idea. But it's certainly an interesting thing to think about. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if that was the case. Apparently the plants communicate with eachother when insects invade.

I asked because im a little nervous keeping the hermie in the same big softee sharing the soil with 2 females and in a tent of 3 other shared pots..it would make sense to have a signal when to switch over...
