Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

:hmmm: I wish the cannabis industry and its supposed leaders weren't so seemingly shady. Its very hard to get real clarity on most related issues.

Doc are you going to try and get in touch with the lab about the mix-up?

When I saw that 41% post I figured there was something funky. Or my 26 just was lame.

So they swapped Id numbers on you and a concentrate? Wonder if that guys a Lil shocked too.

I was under the impression that 41% for a concentrate would be a complete failure. If Id numbers were swapped, and someone entered a concentrate at 41%, wtf were they doing there?

Flowers, 20s; concentrates 80s or 90s, as far as percentages go, is what I'm used to smoking/seeing/hearing. Am I wrong or looking at it differently?

Hey doc, I'm doing 5 20 gal under 2 400w hps. What do you recommend I do if I want to use your kit. I will either put 5 8 week veg plants or 10 4 week veg plants, 2 per 20 gal. How would I go about vegging 8 weeks if I go that route? Can they stay in 1 gal for 8weeks or should I transplant again before final container?

So, you are going to do 5 plants in 20 gal containers under two 400w HPS, and you are wondering if you can veg for two months in a one gallon and transplant into 20 gallons and flower? What kind of containers are you using?

I'll post it later tonite.......

41% THC on the Lemon Paki and other crazy numbers.....

ffs....

edit after reading further...something as simple as this brings the entire question of "blind testing", and "test results are 30% of the judging" etc,. into the spotlight. No doubt stuff like this gets shoved under the carpet and those who question it are ostracized and ridiculed as sore losers.

again I say...ffs.

I got in touch with the testing lab and they said, "Sorry about that. HT changed the entry numbers on some samples so we can't quite figure out which is which....."

I have ZERO confidence in the fairness of their process at this time, but will follow up today to try to figure out what their "changed entry numbers" were all about.

Damn Doc, that has to be so disappointing. I imagine it cost you a pretty penny to enter the cup too. I doubt you have any recourse to recover your entry fee based on them screwing up do you?

It's got me a tad angry Neiko.......

First, I was told to expect the certificate last week. I heard nothing.
Then, I received it....looked at it on cell phone....had my name, strain info correct......WOW!.
Then I printed the certificate and noticed the word "concentrate"

Then I sent some email.....and heard back from someone that HT changed the numbers, whatever that means.

I mean, we expect fraud in our national elections, local government, police and HOA boards......but when it comes to cannabis there should be some honesty, don't you think?

They are going to have to prove to me that the new numbers they send are accurate and are from my entry, otherwise, they chose the wrong guy to fuck with.

This is my new favorite post.

That is total crap! 30% of the score is meaningless. And not just for Doc, but for ALL entries.
Since it is HT, I guess I'm not too surprised. I have a feeling anyone can "win", or get a positive review or editorial. It's just a matter of how much $$$ you throw at the HT MoFo's.

I'm not surprised. People are so clicky and biased. Sincerety is lacking in the human race. If someone on this forum says something good I like it no matter who I think they are. Really though,
I thought all the little guys (except newbs) knew greed ruled the top of all industries including cannabis.

I hope some transparency finds its way into the H.T. cups eventually. A behind-the-scenes detailed look at the procedures of every aspect involved in judging the entries would be a start. I am behind you 100% Doc. I will write emails, sign petitions, do what ever is necessary to bring more clarity to the cannabis cups.:wood:

I'm going to do nothing but simmer until I get an explanation. If the explanation is good, I'll share it. This is the exact message I got back from the lab:

Hi
So sorry about the mix up, High Times had changed the intake number for the entries. I will reissue the correct certificates tomorrow for you
Thanks

Oh really? Issue an incorrect certificate today and just reissue the correct one tomorrow? How does anyone know it is correct now?

And WTF does it mean that they changed the entry numbers? The lab was supposed to test blind, and the judges hired by HT were supposed to evaluate blind......but HT changed the numbers, which means they were NOT blind.

The opportunity for cheating and fraud is wide open. It is funny how all the winners were also big donors with large numbers of employees, all of whom were assembled backstage before the awards were announced.

If HT was able to match testing results with entrants on Sunday, why did it take the lab 2 weeks to do the same? Apparently, it was already done on Sunday!

Bullshit.

Doc, I'm so sorry and devastated to hear this.....jesus.......

Doc, I'm so sorry and devastated to hear this.....jesus.......

I was warned going in. I don't blame the lab. I checked them out and they were a professional operation and reminded me of a pathology lab in many ways.

They couldn't "act" until HT gave them the changed numbers.

Here's how it worked from my perspective:

1. I show up to the lab with my entry all bagged up per directions. 10 bags holding exactly 4 grams each....unmarked....but placed into a larger bag with my info on it.

2. HT recorded the name and my info and placed a pre-printed, numbered sticker on the main bag AND each individual bag. No more name, now there's a number, but the main bag still had my info. I watched them do this.

3. Off I go, and when I get to the cup, I notice they have changed my entry from Indica to Hybrid....which is something they mention happens from time to time in the FAQ.

4. I hear nothing until last night....a week later than I'm told I should hear something....and it's the wrong info!

So, my questions are:

1. When did HT change the numbers.
2. Why did HT change the numbers.
3. If HT knew who the winners were Sunday, presumably they must have been able to match the numbers to the names AFTER all the testing, including the lab testing was finished and recorded. There is no other option, they must have been able to match names and numbers to get the winners, right?

4. So, why did it take another 10 days----and this following 2 weeks between the drop-off and the cup----for HT to get the lab the numbers? Would not the lab have already had the numbers, since the numbers were placed on the entries AT THE LAB?

This stinks! It could be as simple as this: "Judges: the hand-written numbers are the winners. We'll sort out the lab results to make sure it happens, you just make sure the hand-written numbers are the winners."

...I never asked you, Doc...but that was something I was curious about. Why would you have to wait at least a week for your numbers, when HT would have already needed that info on the awards day if the "numbers" were 30% of the score for placement.

I've heard that these contests by HT were rigged in the past to award the "big dogs", so it sounds perfectly reasonable to assume this is continuing to happen. Except now it feels personal, since it's happening to someone we have a lot of respect for...

Hope there is a "reasonable" and "honest" explanation for what happened...but being the cynic I've been most of my life, it really does have the feeling of looking like and quacking like a duck...

lol..agreed. Even with no realistic expectation to win (as you stated), at least give the "appearance" things are legit. For me, they can't explain it adequately. But that's just me.

lol, maybe I've just seen too much.

Yep. I have the same questions.

I just got another certificate in my email:

OK.....17% is more reasonable, except Harborside tested it at 22% last year. The 3% CBD I like......

But hey! Wait a minute! I brought the sample in on January 27th at 12:30 PM! The certificate says I brought it in today? Furthermore, it would have had to have been tested and recorded prior to Feb 8th.....which was when the winners were announced.....but they say they tested it today!

So, more total bullshit. It's getting deeper. Lots of email going back and forth today. I didn't expect to win. I did expect an actual lab test that was trustworthy!
