Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

yo tav plants look great, did you get into any of that big wednesday action?

I certainly did! Very west swell had 8-10 foot (hawaiian style, 15-20 foot faces) wrapping into select south shore locations, along with light and variable winds made for a once in a lifetime experience. I've been surfing around diamond head for 15 years and I saw waves that I'd never seen before. Unreal.

I love surfing and dirtbiking. Snowboarding seems to feel like a mix of the two, surfing the snow trails in the mountains is all time fun. Not to mention snowboarding trips are usually prolific smoking ventures. Nothing beats dawn patrolling the gondola and burning a sweet one on the ride up!

I used to surf out in front of Doris Duke's house on Diamond Head. Paipos I think? Also surfed the reef and another spot out there I can't recall...back in the 70's and early 80's.

It's unusual to have it break that that in the winter. I don't remember that happening too often if at all. What was the East side like?

Kaiko'os is the spot you are thinking of doc :) down that steep street. Usually a left when east windswell hits it. But the outer reef in front of the Doris duke swimming pool/boat dock absolutely turns on when there is a big west swell. I grew up calling it cromwells but now know it as halemano's (house of the shark). Winds were glassy so I surfed around Kahala and scored some prime righthanders. East side was small, anywhere that was exposed to the west angle was pumping. Good times indeed. More north winds and west swell slated for tomorrow, I'm psyching!

Doc, did you use your salt drench on your WNs?
I have some real wasabi seeds...im going to drop a few into some HB soil, along with comfrey, another excellent healing herb, and see what happens :)
I also want to try ginger in HB soil, i'll just break off a nub from a 'hand' or piece of ginger, plant it. Will start some basil and cilantro this week. I think I have some basil seeds. Ive got a cannapesto to make :)

The WN wouldn't do well with Salt Drench......in fact I hope I never have to use that stuff! It's for the hydro strains only.

You'll love herbs in the soil.

More questions, been stirring my dirt and it seems dry. 5 gal of water, used the full 40lbs of ewc. Should I add a gallon?

I've only got one bin actually "going" with a heating pad in it that I turn on several times a day and give a hand stir. The stuff is dry enough that the stuff next to the heating pad gets a drier/whiter look. Keeping the pad under the bin had no effect to warm it. The pad is safe for "moist" application.

If you say its wet enough I believe you, our climate here is pretty dry.

Brixklinger, youre on a slab? i have to use some wood, like a pallet or 4x4 posts, to elevate my tub. I place another tub on top but like a Jenga block...crossed over, go vertical. I use these heavy duty tubs, black with orange or yellow lids, holds 28 or 29 gallons..bale of ProMix fills 2.
I might grow in one of them one day..
Hey, Doc can get get another day job ... 'Portable HB Grow Kit-MMM included' ...ship premixed kit soil w EWC, amendment, kit and tub...
-just add water, 30 days, add seeds of any kind..Voila!

I got 2 kits, 40 gal ewc each, 5 gal h2o each.

Fit into 6x27gal black and yellow "tuff totes"

The one with the heatpad in it is in an unused upstairs bathtub, wrapped in a flannel towel. The other 5 are in the basement sitting at like 55f - I think they can wait to get warm till the shed is ready. Throwing a couple books under it makes sense.

Its holding well at ~70f, just concerned that its fairly dry. Lets call it barely damp.

When I mixed my soil I maybe looked at it twice. Never turned touched or mixed it. Used 3 gals of water. Over a year later its still making beautiful plants...not just cannabis either

Don't worry I'll start posting every thought in my pretty head in my own journal soon enough. Truly, I feel ready. You guys have been huge.

I feel like the best of all this knowledge needs compiling in a book, but it is also evolving so its really a trip to be a part of.

Gonna grow this high brix bud, then some of us are gonna smoke it together homies.

Just a headsup ... in my dry frozen climate I need to add water to my tubs every few weeks. The soil gets quite obviously dried out if I don't. I add about 2 quarts per 15 gallon tub, about once a month or so. Ambient RH is in the 20s.

:Namaste:

Hey Doc,

How much stress/brix should one plant receive that's 4 weeks into flower? The plants in 7gal fabric pots and is roughly 4 feet tall. I know there isn't a straight answer but I've been doing about a cup a plant and kinda wondered if that was enough or to much.

Use the ratio of 1 oz of brix to 1 quart of water. A fine mist on the undersides and tops of leaves and buds (if any) not looking to make a rain storm or monsoon with it
