Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Pictures of things to come.....

There was some slight damage in shipping, but nothing that effects the performance of the lights. Yeah....these are 1200's....bright doesn't really begin to describe it. There are two of them covering a 3x6 tray. I'm going to up the Co2 and grow me some plants.

Woah!!!...those plants are gonna rock bro!!! I'm really stoked to watch those monsters blast some plants.

Fantastic, Doc! 1200's!!

I purchased two of the 900's and should be getting my first High-Brix grow starting in a 5x5 Gorilla tent on Monday.

Very stoked, especially watching all the great High Brix and Platinum grows on this great Forum.

Damn Zigg that sucks man sorry.

Doc can't wait to hear how you like those new lights I have been looking at them as well. Should be awesome stuff:thumb:

I have some light colored new growth on my blue dream and just added some better pics to show if one you you HB experts could drop by my newest journal it would me much appreciated. Thanks!

Got my high brix kit yesterday, thanks Doc. I'm on a mission to track down a bale of promix hp today. The closest hydro shop carries b'cuzz hydromix peat.. but it has starter nutes in it so thats out.. I'm gonna need a bit of luck I think.

I had to go to the furthest one to find mine, but it was still cheaper then shipping it.

Hope you don't mind me asking this in here bit you take some great pictures and I'm camera shopping right now. It looks lie you take a lot of lights out pics? I was worried about the flash bothering them at lights out but I guess it's ok to do? Also what kind of camera and zoom / mm do you use and how far from them do you need to stay. I think that covers it for now. Hope your having a great weekend!

Sunshine #4 is next best.....Home de Pot has Promix usually, so does Lowes.

All Home Depot had was an unopened pallet of premiere peat..I passed on the peat but picked up a pair of 32 gallon trash cans. Anyhow.. I was able to finally find one bale at a store bout 30 miles away.. They had 20 BX and 1 HP.. I scored the HP and 15 lbs EWC 1-0-0.. I also picked up a bale of BX and some perlite (thinking ahead to my second high brix grow already and I haven't even started the first one yet!!) I do believe I am ready to mix up the soil and get it peculating.

You should increase feeding if you only have 15 lbs EWC. If you can get more everything will be a bit more forgiving.

I found my promix at a local farmers co-op $25.99. I live in an unenlightened area and Lowes and Home Depot doesn't have pro mix or sunshine mix however in a nearby town we just got a hydro shop that now carries sunshine #4 and Promix for $49.99. Good luck Shags.

Doc,

I can defiantly get more. What I did was put down a 10x10 tarp. Dumped the promix hp on it and broke up all the clumps. I spread the promix out on the tarp so it was a uniform 3 inches deep. I broke up the clumps in the EWC and sprinkled it by hand over the promix then did the same with the amendments from your kit. I folded, kneaded, flipped, flopped, made a pile, spread it out, re-flop, re-flip, ect.. prob. about 30 minutes worth. If high brix agrees with me I am gonna hit harbor freight for a cement mixer for the next batch. Once I felt it was well mixed I used a gallon pot to scoop it into my two 32 gallon trash cans. I filled them equally about 1/3 of the way. I added some r/o water and mixed then filled 2/3 and added r/o and mixed, ect.. Now I have a pair of 32 gallon trash cans 3/4 or so full of moist amended promix hp goodness. Each can has 2.5 gallons of water mixed into it. I put the lids on loose and put em in my veg room. I try to keep the temp at 68 but with the weather this time of year it fluctuates between 62-72. Oh boy!

I figure I can go out and get another 15lbs of EWC tomorrow and split it between the two cans and just hand mix it in the cans as best I can. I am able to reach thru the soil to the bottom so I think I get the new EWC mixed pretty good if I take my time and smoke a bowl before hand :thumb:

You did it right. You could add that EWC when you transplant, just mix it in with the cooked soil in the container. I do that with rescue soil and various amendments I've tried.

BTW, with those temps make sure you cook at least 30 days. Slightly warmer would be better, but you'll be fine with those.

Can someone please explain the acronym I see in strain descriptions...ibl?

I believe that would be "In Bred Line" Basically they breeder breeds the desired phenotype to the desired phenotype over and over....like marrying your twin sister except it's different with plants.

It's another way of stabilizing the strain. This is essentially what landrace strains are, except they grew, seeded and died in the same valley for a couple thousand years.

If you get seeds that are truly ibl....you'll have pretty stable genetics. Stable does not always equal good, but when it does, it's a good thing.

Good deal, I am a hermit and leaving my garden causes me much anxiety. I'll add the EWC when I start my clones or seeds or both. I haven't decided what I'm actually gonna grow in this stuff yet. I have a good variety of clones and seeds. I think I read about 100 pages back or so that some strains like your kit better than others.

I try to keep the old lady off my ass with the electric bill so I tend to keep it on the cold side in the winter and on the hot side in the summer. That being said, I do have complete control over the environment in my grow. I'll try bumping it up a few degrees and see if she starts bitching.. :laughtwo: It's supposed to be 27F tonight (62F in the room) but then get a lot warmer for the next 2 weeks. I wonder if once the kit starts heating up room temps become less of a concern? I'm not in a huge rush anyways. I was thinking of pulling a pint off the top in a month or so to start seeds.. then in a few more weeks pull a qt off the top to transplant for-mentioned seed.. then to the 7gallon smart pot a few weeks later.. sorry for droning on :tokin:

Cement slabs are heat sinks and if you try to cook your soil on a cold slab....it won't cook. That's more of a concern than air temps at 62, although I'd rather they were 72.
