Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I like that! Thanks!

The strains I'm growing are mostly unique and not available unless you know me or a couple other people. The strains that I've grown that can be obtained are:

Tahoe OG
GSC
Jack Herer
Cherry Pie
Purple Cadillac
And now Grape Ape.
OH....Willie Nelson and Colombian Gold too.....but those are really hard for me to grow.

My favorite stuff is landrace or simple crosses. That's what you're looking for.

Whats the deal with the columbian golds being difficult? I am only asking because I have a couple WOS columbian gold beans I was going to run in the near future but if they are difficult for you I think I might pick something more suited to my experience level...

My calculations say 5-6 gal of perlite to make half a batch ~25% perlite overall.

Thanks! It already has a little bit in it so I will probably add about 4 gal depending on what it looks like. At least I have an idea how much to buy now, much appreciated!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

It's hard to tell from a pic....is that soil moist? Those temps will be just fine....that's about the temp of my warehouse during the summer and my soil is just fine.

Yup it was moist that was about a week after mixing it up per the instructions. It's kinda hard to tell but you can kind of see some water running back down the sides of the can. I hope it's not all jacked up and adding the pearlite will fix it up but I have no idea wtf they did to this bail.

I'm sure I will try them some day Ziggy but if they are difficult enough to give doc problems I need to hold off. I can't grow enough plants to spend 4+ months growing one that doesn't turn out. I need to stick to strains with a high probability of success at least until I can get a stash built up :thumb:

Smokey, try it! Doc, being a 'Doc' would agree that Teachers can learn from their students as well. :)
I will try some of Docs suggestions for seeds grown in his awesome kit, especially landrace.

As far as I'm concerned, biological farming is where it's at now, and definitely going forward. We've got to heal the soil around us and especially in areas of farmland. That salted up, sterile mess has the insect, mammal, avian and reptile poplulaitons all jacked up. And who knows what role the living soil plays in the atmospheric health and what contribution to our planet's well being the insect/reptile/avian/annelid populations bring?

I'd be willing to wager a great deal. If you ever get the chance to eat a totally pure diet of high quality produce and animal products where the animals ate really well....try it for a week or two and you'll feel awesome.

What my vision is all about is making sure the highest quality cannabis can be grown by individuals anywhere, not just in certain regions with great climate and soil well suited for the crop.

Speaking of which, the only way to improve is to share with eachother, experiment with different things and so forth. I don't expect the product line in my kit to ever be static, and certain tweaks people might want to try at home is all part of the fun.

But if you desire a reproducible product that was both the highest quality and above average yield....on a scale from tents to hectares...well, that's what this is all about!

Your soil will be fine. Get it out, toss the perlite into it, moisten it up with maybe a two gallons of water and and ounce of Transplant if you wish.....it will be supercharged and you won't need to feed for a while. Normally I wouldn't advise doing that, but when you break up the soil to put the perlite in, some of the biota will get injured and the Transplant will help re-establish things.

Colombian Gold.....oh man. I haven't been able to make it happen indoors. It's just crazy. It want about a 14x14x14 greenhouse all to itself. One plant in a 10x10x3 straw bale raised bed, full of high brix soil, live worms, etc.

That's how you grow Colombian Gold.

I am feeling like I'm going to tame the Willie Nelson strain. I'm absolutely in love with the high....been smoking it all day today. If you want to strike up conversations with strangers, old friends, acquaintences even your own wife/husband.....Wille Nelson is where its at. IMO of course!

But it's not economical to grow. It's a total loser. But I must have it....soooo.

But I haven't been able to make the Colombian happen. I've got an F1 Cross with Flo I might have a go at.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hi Doc Bud, Ive been lookin at some of your journals and I have a question regarding testing of your soil, my question is do you still have the results of any tests you have done on any commercial soil. If so can i ask you to send me a picture of the test along with the brand of soil you had tested. I am looking to do the calculations myself and experiment in making my ideal soil. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

You can get your own custom broadcast for whatever soil you like for 60.00. That's what I had to pay for each of the soil tests I had done. I sell amendments for less money than you would pay if you ordered your own for Promix HP and Sunshine #4. I tested several other popular brands of soil and none of them would pass. Promix barely makes it.

The soil in your backyard is probably more likely to be amended into high brix territory than most potting soils.

But seriously, 60 bucks and they'll give you a printout of exactly how much of everything to add. Then just go out and purchase about 20-30 products and you'll be good to go for a long, long time. A cement mixer works well for mixing up the various rock powders, meals, and such.

Tell them you're working with me and they'll formulate it based on the crop....no mention of the crop need be made....and I can get your bulk stuff for you at the lowest price possible, same as anyone else.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I would be all for the backyard way if I had a backyard to test haha. Im in an apartment so no easy access to soil, Im currently using FFOF but been doing lots of research on the ideal organic soil. How much are you letting your amendments go for?

Thanks Doc!

I have the world of seeds "landrace" Colombian gold and it looks like they have crossed it with something and they have it listed as 25% indica. I assume the real deal is 100% sativa? I got 2 15gal equiv air pots this week so I should have the room and soil for one or two big plants per run but no where near as big as your talking. :bravo:

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Just chiming in. You won't find real Colombian Gold anymore on the commercial seed market ATM, and I really researched it. Some crosses are possible to find though and one of these is offered by World Of Seeds. It's not a pure sativa though. There are however other pure Colombian, Panamian and Mexican varieties sold by Cannabiogen and Ace Seeds. I've been pondering them for a while, but then thinking about my climate I went for two different pure lines, which are..

Malawi Gold - great African landrace, which starts flowering outdoor by mid August in NorItal

Nanda Devi - from northern India on the border with Nepal, classic charas variety

Sorry if I'm spamming, but couldn't resist, and maybe that's gonna help some sativa lovers here :tokin:

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I was gonna say the same thing regarding Colombian Gold. I have a few BF CG seeds and I can't help but think it's only a distant cousin to the genuine article. We had a summer in '76 where it was available. I think we all had some going somewhere after that for that fall harvest, but all the CG I've seen since then is different...period. Not that it's bad, but it's different.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I think the only way to get the seeds is to go to Santa Marta in Colombia and start scouting or have someone in Sierra Nevada region, who know local growers. From Colombian varieties available on the market there are two ATM: Mangobiche (from the center) and Punto Roja known in the 70's as Colombian Red. A hybrid that comes close to Colombian Gold according to many reviews is Love Potion No 1 if you get a sativa pheno. That's what I managed to find out from my own research.

Hope that helps :Hookah:

Ah, I'd almost forget. It still exists, cause I found a thread elsewhere with its pics described as Colombian landrace from Santa Marta region. That's how it looks.

I'll add that I never saw or smoked the original.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Good stuff Conradino. That pic looks almost exactly how I remember it save the coloration. The whole "lid" we had was that same structure but was a pale silvery sage color. I remembered it interestingly enough as I referred to it with my friends at the time as Colombian silver...lol. We assumed the speckled golden pistillate hairs was the justification for the name.

The kit is 85.00 and includes EVERYTHING you need except Promix and EWC. I recommend trying the kit......and if you like it order in bulk. If you're growing only a couple plants at a time, then the kit is perfect.

I've got maybe 10 seeded buds from Santa Marta that look EXACTLY like what you posted. I've also got the C-red....very different.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Would you post pics of these, Doc?
It's always interesting for me to find out more about the legendary strains that I never saw with my own eyes :)
