re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc,

awesome looking plants

the last 2 pics show a little brown on the serated edges and a few yellowish leaves.

any idea what caused that? normal for a plant at that phase?

It's normal for the sun leaves to drop off at about week 4 or 5 of bloom. Usually, they turn yellow and drop. I suspect the burn't edges are because that plant is in the second run of the soil. But not to worry, trichomes are starting to form and brix is a respectable 14.

I have a crackpot theory.....that has no basis in science.....that when the plants drop the fan leaves during bloom, the way the leaves begin to necrose tells you what deficiencies the plant is dealing or is about to be dealing with.

Man Doc, your pics are crazy. I think you have grown with CO2 the whole time am I correct? I'd like to hear your thoughts on how beneficial CO2 is in your operation. I am not set up for CO2 enrichment but I have holes punched in my floors for excellent cool fresh air intake and exhaust. I guess side by side, how much better would adding CO2 be?

I am going to show you what non CO2 high brix bud looks like shortly from my room. I've got 6 seeds going in the high brix soil with your kit and I've never seen such rapid growth and health from seedlings. I am very happy Doc :thumb:

Co2 helps yield, no doubt about it. It also has a tendency to make pistilate growth continue late into bloom, and buds can foxtail....ideally I'd shut it off during the last 2 weeks, and I sometimes do.

But the extra yield is worth it, IMO.

Please give me a link to your journal when it's up and running!

OMG is right. Amazing work your doing doc. You will have to point me in the right direction on a refractometer.

Bro, your growing skills are incredible. I begin to twitch and drool when I think of you getting some high brix action. Ebay seems to be about the best place for a refractometer. A good analog, temperature compenated 0-30 read is perfect. Expect to spend about 100 bucks, give or take.

To add to this, make sure it is made for measuring sugar. There are refractometers for other things like salinity, so just wanted to make sure to add, get one for sugar and that the degrees are at least 0-32. I picked mine up off Amazn for like 40$. Make sure it is a ATC or automatic temp. correction so you will get more accurate readings.

Thanks for the tip Icemud. Thank you doc for the kind words and honestly i am twitching and drooling to give it a go.
soon we go

Was up doc? Looking freakin great. And that's comin from a guy who has been working on the same 10x10 room for over 8 years. I thought I knew everything, lol. You inspired me, and many others up here in nor cal. Would love to grow one of my 2 trays with this brix method. I run a CGE, closed growing environment, full co2, and GH micro bloom only. Known as the lucas formula. Getting big yields but my head has thoroughly been spun with high brix gardening. Does international ag labs have suggestions on medicinal gardening? Prob not, someday though. Have you tried this method on a pure kush strain? Again new to this posting thing. Thanx for all your time and work.

One of my grow buddies is a hydro guy....also uses GH and a bunch of other stuff, but mostly GH. His grows are legendary and inspiring, especially with OG Kush. That strain just loves the hydro!

I don't want to speak for International Ag Labs...but it turns out I'm not the only grower of "high value medicinal herbs" in their client list. I'm getting in touch with another guy who is a legal grower as well, and we'll compare notes.

IAL is also sending me a new product to test out and write a review on.....they know what I do.

But I'm certain they don't have special products for cannabis. I'm sort of figuring that out for them....and me.

The new product should be very helpful to those ends....everyone here will know!

You know I was thinking about that before, I figured the way the industry is now that money is money to them. But hopefully because the industry is the way it is that maybe you could make some money as well from them. Wouldn't that be great to take cannabis brix to the next level and get paid or sponsored for it? Ah the dream.

Great work Doc, can't wait to see future the future holds.

Wow aweseme response time. I grow in aurora roots organic soil. 21 five gallon pots per table. One gavita pro and 1 magnetic hps per table. Almost always bubba kush. Way different than og. My "kit" would need to make 15 cubic feet or so. Any recomendations are appreciated. I am set on growing only the best meds so im on board 100%.

Doc, does the 6-5-3 have a brand or do you have to mix it yourself.? I have read extensively and am not clear on this mineral additive. Heres some pics of my kush about to start week 5. Ok gotta get pics first. New to this site. Be patient:thanks:

6-5-3 refers to this:

6 parts high calcium limestone (90% or better Calcium carbonate.....NOT CC equivalent!!)
5 parts Soft Rock Phosphate
3 parts Gypsum

Adding this to any regular potting soil will "mineralize" it and generally improve things quite a bit.

The custom amendments I get from the lab do not require 6-5-3....or anything else. It's all in there in the right ratio's straight from the lab.

With the kit there's no need for 6-5-3. If you want to mineralize your soil and see the difference, be sure to have a really good source of microbial life, as none of this stuff is available to the plant without vigorous microbial action.....which is absolutely fundamental for any kind of high brix growing.
