Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hi.

anyone around here grow marijuana?

Hi, I'm a hydro grower here to glean some wisdom for achieving high brix with hydro. I mix all my own nutes from salts and target each element to a specific PPM and am able to put my levels to pretty much anything I want. That said, I was already in the process of dialing in my macros when I stumbled onto high brix content and realized I was already in pursuit of a similar end result. I later learned others have taken it further and analyze the leaf sap for the macros as well as PH. This inspired me to get the PH meter and I learned my leaf sap PH is 3 tenths low so I have cation concerns as well as a Ca and K deficiency that I'll have to work on over time, but in the process of contemplating new ratios to try, ones that I can feel confident that won't leave me high and dry if I miscalculate something.

That said, I was wondering if you have any insight on
  • what ratios I should pursue,
  • your understanding of how brixy I can get in hydro,
  • valid sources of soluble calcium other than Calcium Nitrate
  • and how much nitrate should I give. Nitrate is pretty much my only source of N, and I've already been on the deficient side with it in mid/late bloom so I bumped it up in bloom, but I'd like to better understand the happy zone for N in bloom and aside from you, there's not much Canna/Brix related content on the interwebs.
FYI, I also use humic/fulvic/kelp blend and just got a 16L Amino Acids blend, so I have some organic inputs, I figure with those and precisely calculated diet, I should be able to get my Brix from 5 up to 12ish which would be great for me.
