Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

OK brix'ers. I have a problem I never thought i'd have.......... I dont know what strain to grow. Im feeling overwhelmed with options. Ill outlay some of my ideas.

1) Friend has cuts of Guava stardawg, Durban poison, golden bean, flow, and master kush.
2)I have seeds of Smurfzilla by north genetics. And some self seeded dark plasma #9 seeds from a friends grow.(dark plasmas kind of out of the question)
3)I've been eyeing Exotic or Ocean grown for seeds (these strains worry me as they are highly hybridized and recall that landraces love this high brix soil.
4)I've also been eyeing some cuts that are available online. M.A.C cap's cut, grease monkey(another exotic genetics strain) and a bunch of others.

I have too many options and need some guidance. I personally love heavy indicas, but would love to give sativas another try. Only liked them when i was younger.
Whatever calls to you the most. Growing cuts is awesome, but it is always a risk taking cuts in from anybody. You never know what is hitching a ride with those cuts. With the MAC 1 people aren't supposed to be selling it though I am sure it happens. It is supposed to be an amazing strains. Buckshot has grown out some nice MAC plants from seed. I would avoid the self seeded dark plasma. The Smurfzilla sounds like a very solid option. If you have any of the Grape Ape x GDP seeds they gave out as freebies those are supposed to be great too. TheBorn420 grew some out in kit soil and had very good things to say about them. I do not see people complain about Ocean grown seeds but have seen some complaints about a lot of Exotics gear herming. I know a few growers on here had issues with balls on lower nodes of a couple of The Cube crosses they had released. It really all comes down to what you are comfortable doing and what you have available to you!

Edit: I meant to mention people have found some gems in Exotic gear. Doc grew out their Hazelnut Cream for a while and loved it. He may even have it still. Just make sure if you grow their gear you check them real good to make sure they are not lady boys. Bananas are not the main concern though I would watch for that too. As I said it is low hanging balls (full formed male parts) that are of concern.

Yes, ginko is supposed to work... but didn’t work for me. Made my head very fuzzy, it was weird cause I felt more alert but my mind wasn’t working well.
Also, sometimes, for some people, puzzles, books, those brain games... sometimes those work for some. Gotta exercise that brain...

Chess, memorization, smoking huge joints, one after the other and philosophizing with erudite stoners. That keeps my brain going.

Thanks for the reply! Some good information to keep in mind. I didn’t know that about the mac1 cuts. Dark plasma is 100% out of the question, which is sad because I had my eye on it before getting gifted the seeds. Same guy gave me the smurfzilla seeds and he said they were “the truth!” Hahah.

So I think I want to go the seed route and just deal with getting a mediocre phenotype. Or hopefully a bomb one. I don’t have the space to pheno hunt so my thinking behind getting a cutting was to have something true and tested.

So either the smurfzilla or buy different seeds. What’s the word on dvg? Found a collector who has theee seed packs from dvg.

Pookss you can't go wrong with Durban Poison and Lion's Mane is a :thumb: great tasting mushroom, a favorite:Namaste:

My buddy’s cut of Durban is 12 weeks and hydro roots. I want to try and squeeze two full grows in before it gets stupid hot and can’t run my lights at full tilt. The hydro roots are also off putting to me.

DVG seems pretty solid. I have not run their gear nor do I know anyone with first hand experience. I have meant to buy some of their gear and just have not gotten to it. They were running killer deals at certain seed banks where if you bought a pack of their Purple Vapor you got a free 6 pack of citrus farmer, a free 6 pack of brandywine and then a free full pack of one other strain. I would look to see if any of the seed banks still have that deal. 3 full packs with 4 different strains, 2 of which are their best sellers, all for the price of one sounds like the best deal you could get.

Dvg looks promising but like you said, don’t know anyone who’s grown it out. The guys has brandywine( heard great things), palpatine, and pink champagne. 10 pack seeds for 100 each. Same guy also has strawberries and cream by exotic new 2019 release. Those are 200.

Or just run my smurfzilla :/

I just want to best quality genetics I can eat. Last harvest was gifted seeds and they were mediocre. Great smoke but nothing to write home about.

Edit: some seed banks still have dvg seeds that I listed for cheaper than the dudes trying to resell them for. Pink chamagne bx is the only one not available.

That smurfzilla sounds like it would some tastey buds specially with kit soil. Well whatever u choose bro good luck.

Apparently north genetics put in a lot of work on the smurfberry male that is used in most of their crosses.

I feel so overwhelmed with choices for the first time. I normally just pick whatever.

Use what you have on hand. Then grab more seeds as you can. You may as well see what you can get. I am sure it will be at the very least good smokeable bud!

I agree. I'm just a decent set of genetics to run reliably. seeds will be planted in 5 days, ill be sure to post a journal, first time brixxer here.

No problem. :thumb:

The EWC isn't "necessary", just helpful for the first run of the soil, helps keep the soil energy up.

Ok guys so still having issues here. I did the trim back like doc suggested with my one clone tht was burning up. An then did a destress but she is jus lookn worse it seems. Now that I'm looking at things the only one to really look good is my auto in the ten gallon cloth pot. But so far its seeming tht every time I do a foiler things get worse. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Wondering if I should jus dump these clones an start fresh from seed? But that wud jus suck all that wasted time and money. But yea if sum1 can help me save them obviously I would rather do that lol.

Here are my 2 devils carnival clones not doing the greatest but besides my auto are the best hibrix ones I got.

Then here is my amnesia lemon from seed.

Then here is my bluecheese clone not doing good at all.

Hi Blaze! This is above my pay grade so I'll let Doc or someone else answer. It does look like root burn or high heat/low rh so if you can provide as much info as possible like measurements of drenches AND foliars, then if you've had any spikes in heat or rh. Hang tight and im sure someone will be by soon with suggestions.

Definitely not a spike in heat or rh% if anything I need to raise rh% its sitting around 35% but last nite I noticed my hygrometer said it hit 28% at one point. So 2morow ill be getting some more fans and a humidifier to help stabilize shot alil better. I thought I would fine with the garden till I got to the new garden spot but things are taking longer then planned lol. But as for temps I'm keeping it right around 80 to 82 degrees f with lights on an 73 roughly lights off. And as for the foilers I'm doing them as it is written on the bottle for the lowest amount to be mixed up. Well atleast I think. I notice the one for brix foiler says use 1 oz per quart of water. Am I right in thinking that I can mix up just a quart of this at a time? Or does that mean jus use 1 oz per quart but not necessarily that only a quart be used at once? Jus wondering what's going on an how to fix everything specially so I dont do it again lol.

Cannabis does not like hot and dry.....and 80 degrees with 35% humidity is definitely hot and dry. A fan is not the answer.....moisture in the air is!

No more foliars for a bit. The soil energy is too high now, and the plant's metabolism is too low.

If you get the rH up to about 60% for 80 degrees, things will improve a lot. 50% for 78 degrees.

Use plain water for the next two dunks.....then Rescue drench. But we really can't expect awesomeness in hot, dry weather.

Regarding mixing foliars....you can make a quart, half a quart or less....just use the ratio of 1 oz per quart on Brix and 1/2 oz per quart on DeStress.
