Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

My two cents:

@FutRfarmer If they haven't perked up a little by this afternoon, pour 16oz of water over the tops of the pots to be sure there's enough moisture in the new soil.

@DopyLemontree Yeah, that's Cat burn. I was rereading the schedule somewhere, and Doc doesn't recommend the high side of dosages for Cationic Drench. But like you said, it's all about the trichs - the produce will be good. When we drench with Cat, we switch the electrical charge in the soil and that causes the minerals that have attached themselves to the clays and humus in the soil to fall away and become available to the biota. There's a wholesale alteration in the biota population as they adapt to the new circumstances and the plant's exudates change, etc. The old biota die away and aren't available to perform their former duties, and if the switch gets hung up, the plant gets partially starved while everything adapts. In my experience, heavy Cat drenches rarely go well for leaf heath. It would probably help now to give them a DeStress foliar.

@Amy Gardner That claw isn't bad at all, but it sure doesn't look like it wants anymore N right now, so I think your instincts are good. You might consider doing another Trans/Tea this time, or just a 1/4 Transwater. It would probably enjoy a Brix foliar at this point, too. If it were mine, I'd drench with Trans/Tea and Brix it same day.

Thanks Gray for sharing your experience. I sensed that it was the heavy Cats, and your knowledge and explanation of the chemistry/biology of it is quite enlightening. An “aha” moment for sure!

don’t know what the best solution is, but I simple used less GE and TP the rest of the grow, and did more pure water drinks, attempting to flush things. In the end the buds were great, but I know they could have been better.

Good Troubleshooting is a product of experience.
CHeers Dopy :thumb: so true. Sometimes when i help folk with their computers they ask ‘how is it you know so much about computers’ and the answer is usually that I’ve seen a lot of things go wrong and had to sort them out! It’s the stuff that went wrong and how it was fixed that one remembers best!

I think I’ll do what you mentioned too. Keep it light going forward.

I really learnt something valuable when Doc sent me my soil test results for my small outdoor raised bed. I haven’t touched it since the end of last season and it grew out 2-3 plants really nicely for me. I’d made my own soil mix based on some LOS ideas and High Brix principles so really dialed back the organics/compost component (and didnt use any of the ‘meals’ that LOS likes - except my homemade kelp meal). Well a full grow and a year later, there is still too much organic matter and N in the soil! It really puts it in perspective for me just how much less high brix farming requires. It’ll still grow me some great plants this season with the custom ammendment and kit drenches/foliars so it will still work, but it will get better as the existing humus gets used up.

It was that soil test result and advice that helped me realise the overdose of castings i seem to have going on now. Less is definitely more! :thumb:

I always appreciate your input :high-five:I had not considered the DeStress after the Cat Sounds like a good plan.
I'm Only using 7ml Cat in a 10g for first time runs, if i run again I can adjusting from there

Very interesting Amy! I should do some soil tests of my outside garden beds. I’ll bet mine are to high in humus too, as I am a compost’er also. Next year!

Take care

Yah it is very revealing! I think the instruction to add no more humus was the biggest surprise. I’m low in some micronutrients too so will need Snake Oil - as it turns out through my own (acccidental) foresight and Doc’s actual foresight and generosity, I have heaps of it

Doc/ Anyone ever see this happen? Interveinal chlorosis. It happened pretty quick, like two days. Temps 68/80 rh 50-62%. Lights are 30in above top colas. It just affects some of the new growth on the buds, big fans are fine. It’s in first run soil.

I have been learning what this GP strain likes, and have been feeding at the high side of 2ml per gal of soil, alternating TP with H2O prior to the 2 Cats. The Cats were at the same 2ml per gal of soil (basically 1 tbsp of product in a gal of water) the plants have been thriving. After drying up after both Cats, I watered with a 25% TP drink, then two days later noticed this:

I’m thinking the Cats were too strong, and symptoms lagged a bit??

I’m not upset, as this strain is the best smoke I’ve ever grown, and I need to learn it’s limits. This is its second run in my garden. First run I underfed, and she protested

I gave a light high pressure misting of destress, and a day later she seemed to like that. The chlorosis has not progressed any further.

I've been giving 2 GE drenches in a row, maybe 1 watering and then giving cat back to back, but when they dry I give them GE. I think doc said cat drench has lot of trans in it. I was getting same thing on few, now i seem to use GE 70% of drenches. I use trans a lot at beginning to get roots going.

Here's some I'm about ready to harvest. It's weird though, in gardening techniques have huge impacts. Because I've tried stuff and failed when everyone else is killing with it lol. My first 4-5 runs with kit I was having few issues, mostly environmental and me not alternating drenches like the instructions said lol.

Sorry for the rant, I'm effin stoned, 5-6 dabs of rosin and smoking a cannagar lol:Namaste::green_heart::passitleft:

Hey guys. Just wanted to drop a little update in here after struggling with the droop recently. I improved the drainage of the pots and let them drain at an angle longer periods of time. This helped quite a bit. She never really perked all the way up but she was already becoming root bound as well. Up potted yesterday. Here is a pic of her roots at transplant and what she looks like today. G13 Haze...

Nice roots, Brother! :thumb:

Ok so i lost tht pamphlet tht comes wit the kit wen u first get it which really sux. But thts what i get for havn someone help me rearrange my living room/garden lmao. Its to funny half my house is a dam forest hahaha. But yea i had a question if 4 out of my 5 HB plants are ready to start the first part of the veg calendar shud i jus give plain ro water to my seedling? Cause she jus has her second node of true leaves not 5. An if i remember right the pamphlet said to use plain water till 5 nodes or was it distilled water shit now i forgot lmao. So if sum1 cud help me out i wid greatly appreciate it thank you and namaste.

You want to use plain water. No drenches or sprays until at least 5 nodes. If you soaked your pots when you sunk your seeds you shouldn't need water for a couple weeks at least. You can dribble about a 1/4 cup of water around the outside of the pot if the top is drying out but don't soak it.

Awesome thanx neiko an as for my seedling when i planted her i gave a gud watering but i didnt completely soak it. I didnt know if it wud over water the seed an kill it. So i jus gave a decent amount around the outside and then jus abit over where the seed was placed. An yea its been almost 2 weeks since i put them in the ground. An i havnt had to give them anything so far other then what i did when i first put them in the ground. But either way thanx bro for the help.

WEnt from a 1 to a 10

Also when doing a drench how should i be feeding them should i jus water from the top down til alil run off shows or shud i jus set the pot ina bucket to soak up what it needs? Also when the tea says use 2 drops per gallon of soil does tht mean i add all my plants soil 2gether what ever is being fed and go with that? or does it mean if im using one gal pots no matter how many plants there are only go with one gal worth?
