And a vegged plant, trimmed up for transplant and bloom. I got 7 nice cuttings from her during the pruning. I don't keep moms...just teen moms.

Hey Doc, Ive read all your journals and I have been following along closely to this one. I dont remember you talking about genetic shift in cuttings. What I mean by that is some growers swear by using a seeded mother plant then taking cuttings of that plant for clones. Other growers take a clone of a clone of a clone and see no difference or change in bud quality. Any thoughts on this?

I know you do the teen mom thing, but wanted to hear your thoughts on this.

This is an area where I'm still pretty new, so take what I say accordingly. BTW, I've never heard of the seeded mother technique. That's very interesting, I'll have to ask my buddy about that.

Anyhows, I think you can go for many years from clone to clone as long as the plants are super healthy and only clones from healthy plants are taken. Diseased plants should be culled, etc. The important thing about clones is that they are the age of the mother plant when you take them. A six month old plant isn't quite the same as a 3 week old plant. I think the younger ones root better....but maybe that's just me.

So, anyways, I don't think you're really getting a genetic shift....more like just plants that reflect the mother's age and health....which goes down over time. At this point, a weak cutting is taken from the declining mother plant and the new mom is that much weaker, etc.

That doesn't seem to happen with teen moms.

However, I still prefer to grow by seed, and I'm excited for a new seed run coming online very soon, as soon as I can sex them and harvest some others out of the way. Then I think I"ll take a break from this clone madness and do some seed grows.

Do you have a good microbial tea? If so, mix up all this stuff and water it with the tea and let the whole mix sit in a barrel for a month before using it.

I've been meaning to ask you about this. What do I need to make the tea? as in pump, airstone, tea bag etc.

I was planning on using a 5 gallon pucket and adding about a cup of EWC, SRP, and Ancient Forest Humus. couple teaspoons of molasses.
let it bubble for almost 24 hours.
Dilute it into about 50 gallons.

Anything else you would recommend Doc?

Thanks Doc. I appreciate your perspective on things. You had a different way of thinking about it that makes sense to me. Any more there is so much misinformation with Cannabis that I rarely trust what I hear unless I can prove it myself.

Thanks again

Forgot to add, that I rarely trust people other than a few on this site and you too. I have tried enough of your concepts to trust your info 100%.

That's a good solid recipe for sure. No problem there.

A five gallon bucket and airstone is what I used---and will again when I start doing some tea experimentation---stir the stuff up really good a couple times a day, but with a stick, not a paint stirrer or anything like that.

Make sure that the surface the bucket is sitting on isn't cold. A heat mat for seedlings and clones is a good thing to put the bucket on this time of year. If it's too cold, the microbes are sluggish.

So no pump? just an air stone and tubing?

what should I put my ingredients in? I've seen some people use a sock, I've seen tea bags made for microbial teas for sale online. Basically I'm only asking so I don't do it wrong and screw up my entire grow because of a simple tea.
I've heard you need to brew the tea at about 70 75 degrees.

The airstone must be putting out air....so the pump was sort of assumed. You want an aerated tea....very important.

You don't need a sock....when you're done brewing, if you want to strain your tea, just pour it through a paint strainer. I never bothered to strain it unless I was using a sprayer.

koffeekush

I put my ingredients right in the bucket. I have used the panty hose method, but normally just toss them right in the bucket. A small dual output air pump with 4 inch air stones. I water, then scrape the stuff of the bottom and top dress the soil with it.

I tried reusing the panty hose full of ingredients once. Bad results. Stinky smelly tea with no foam.

I have used box/bagged organics like Happy Frog, Peace of Mind or Dr Earth with good results. Some molasses and some microbes and maybe some WC. I mix on the light side and use full strength.

"P. OG" :hmmmm: Hmmm...What's the P stand for??? The only P.O.G. I can think of is Pot of Gold, but this is "P. OG," so Pure OG? Purple OG?...I don't know. :laughtwo:

Phew! It's toasty in here.

Platinum OG Kush! I don't know much about it....collective gave me a clone and said grow it out. I've got that one, 3 clones from the first pruning which will be ready to bloom in 2 weeks, and about 10 cuttings rooting as we speak.

We shall see !

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc,
I got my kit yesterday. Thank you,my father in law and I were laughing so hard about the ph adjustment in your directions. That is some classic shit.
You have so much information to go through, so I would appreciate a little help. I recall you mentioning there was a way to "speed up" the soil cooking. I would love to do this with some rooted clones while the big batch of promix cooks. Could you please go over that method or just tell me to be patient and wait?

I thought of this right after posting, but didn't want to edit...again. Never had the pleasure of trying this strain. Heard good things though.

Well, lets see that babe grow!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I've got another question Doc. Will storing the soil that's cooking outside cause problems because of heat or coldness? I want to keep the trash cans outside.

The "quickstart" version involves lots of Root Zone. Like 4 cups of it.

You mix one cup per gallon of soil for starts. While they're growing, the other soil is cooking and they intersect right when you want to transplant.....hopefully. It's important to keep the soil in the barrel warm this time of year.
