Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Looks like I need a lemon paki somehow. I love the smell of surfboard resin and 7-11 vanilla nut coffee in the morning.

I almost went up the coast to my wifes parents yesterday. I need to get up there for a weekend one of these days.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

If "Up the coast" means here in my neck of the woods, make sure you contact me!

I will definitely do so. I have been busy so I stayed my wife went to dero to bring our daughter for grandparent spoil treatment.

You better believe you will see me using your kit in my room.

Hi Docbud!
I've loved reading your journals. I have turned on many outdoor growers to switch over to OC+ based on your previous posts. Right now I'm doing the H3ad 6/9 with coco, but I'm fascinated by this high brix method. I live in NorCal.
I would love to give this a go. I have tried the Lucas formula, OC+ in promix and ocean forest, dyna gro, BOG's soil and now H3ads 6/9 coco. I've had great success, but I don't settle and I strive to improve and learn.
I would love to try the kit and would appreciate correspondence from you on getting the kit.
Thanks for your interesting posts, it's fun to read and I've learned a lot and spread your knowledge. Hopefully I can help start a mini wave of high brix growers up here!

Doc,

My friend isn't to keen on the idea of washing buds and ours are already hanging for 2 days now.

If I can convince him to try just a few and see what happens, would it still be OK to wash buds that have been hanging for a few days?

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Here's a couple of pics of test plants I've dialed in to test out the high brix Doc.

Hey doc,

I was wanting your opinion on how much calcium is too much?
Soil, that is... Hell, foliar too lol

Thanks

If you pick up a kit in person, I'll cut the shipping cost AND show you in person how I use it! Be careful....sometimes things burn in my grow room. Just gotta follow the rules and I'll need to see your med card of course....not for the kit, but for the pickup. :high-five:

I've actually run into some NorCal OC+ weed lately! I had to laugh, because as far as I know I started that trend....or was at least journaling it before it was popular. It's still far and away my preferred method for new growers.

PM incoming.

No. I wouldn't do that.

Try it on a handful of buds next time and your friend will volunteer to do all the washing.

It depends....

As for foliar....it depends.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, it's just that calcium comes in different packages. If you post your mix, I'll do my best to offer advice.

Step on is to mineralize the soil.....this will work with almost any commercial potting soil, like FFOF, Roots, Black Gold, and also Promix.

6 parts High Calcium Limestone (90% or better CaCo3. Pay no attention to Calcium Carbonate equivalents, only actual Calcium Carbonate)
5 parts Soft Rock Phosphate
3 parts gypsum

add 1.5 to 2 cups of this mix per bag of soil. If you're adding lots of organic material, add 2 cups. Also include 1/2 cup of azomite.

Now you're mineralized and brix will bump up over 10, possibly even high enough to get rid of all bugs. Certainly your insect pressure will go down and your taste and potency will increase.

Doc,

How was the NorCal OC+? Looks, taste, quality?

Cornchi,

Nice buds.

You just joined 420mag this month and you already grew some high brix. Did you hear about it in another forum or somewhere else?

I haven't done high brix yet. Sorry for the confusion. I will say the outdoor grown with OC + and then amended with Job's Rose Knockout around flower was killer. Huge yields and was as good as any outdoor I saw. The pictures I posted were from doing the H3ad 6/9 formula in straight coco. I just joined 420mag today. I lurked Docbuds OC+ threads a while back and I goggled Docbud420 and saw his high brix threads. This is one of the most interesting topics I've encountered in years. Thanks for the nice words.

Thanks to Docbud and the others for the kind words as well. Congratulations to all of you for creating and participating in an innovative thread. I'm very impressed and would love to get in on the action.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Cornchi,

I have been riding Doc's coat tails since early on and he hasn't steered me wrong yet.

I followed since OC+ (one OC+ won me PTOM), hempys, to organic teas, mineralized soil high brix attempt (last grow) and now to "boldly go where few have gone before" with the true High Brig method.

Feel free to stop by my brix journal Hash Hounds Brixperiment with Doc's Kit

I am journaling my grow with Doc's kit from day one, with a dash of my last grow thrown in of a brix attempt with out the kit, just following Doctors orders.

2 cups of mix per bag... are you talking the 3.8 cu. ft.?

I have on hand:
Oyster shell
rock phosphate (not soft)
gypsum
glacial rock dust
granite meal

I have been sourcing this stuff locally (not easy) and have a number of unopened bags just
itching to get moist. I would think this mineral list should be workable for upping my brix?
btw, ordering my refractometer today. :high-five:

I have another question about amendments.
Please let me know if you disagree with the following:
ewc, kelp meal, alfalfa meal, composted chicken manure as must haves, every time.
Preferred would be adding crab meal, fish meal, fish bone meal, feather meal, neem seed meal.
Allowable would be any other type of organic meal available in small amounts just for diversity.

I noticed (or did I?), you no longer recommend PGR? Is that due to possible Paclobutrazol and/or
Daminozide contents?

PGR does not have anything like that in it at all. It's all natural, derived from kelp.....no chems at all. The reason I'm not using it at present is because I have these other sprays that are pre-mixed and have even more good stuff in them. PGR is used for acerage, and must be mixed with Amaze, Phos Acid Fish, and Dextrose.

The spray I'm using in the kit as all that and more included.

To your mix:

If you could find some Soft Rock Phosphate, that's your ticket. That's the single most important thing you can add.

With the list you gave me, I'd use something like this:

Oyster shell
fish bone meal
Azomite
gypsum

This is your minerals.

EWC, Chicken Manure, crab meal

These are you organic ferts.

I wouldn't add all the other stuff.

Do you have a good microbial tea? If so, mix up all this stuff and water it with the tea and let the whole mix sit in a barrel for a month before using it.

You'll also want a good mycorrhyyzal product to innoculate the roots. It must be a "live" product:
Xtreme gardening
Biovam, etc.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc,
Did you send the PM? I don't see it. I'm excited to get started. I'm usually super laid back, but horticulture is one of the few subjects that get me fired up so I apologize if I seem pushy. Thanks Doc.
