DobeWan's Perpetual Adventure 2.0: The Reboot

Massive 21F update!

Here's how things looked when I opened the tent:

With stretch over, and week 3 ending, I felt it was time to defol. I'm clearly at the stage where the flowers are progressing so I wanted to ensure they got as much light as possible.

It was a big job as I've largely left the plants alone in the last week. There was just such a volume of veg on some of these plants like Violator Kush and Liberty Haze that meant even in taking a lot off, they still look like they have a lot remaining.

My basic approach here is clearing pathways for light to hit the flower sites, to get the lower part of the plant cleaned and remove bud that will end up airy and light, and to remove any remaining stems that aren't going to produce good flowers. I removed a couple of stems on Royal Gorilla and Violator Kush in their dense middles. Liberty Haze got a much more dramatic looking defol on her lower half thanks to her height, but you'll see when she's in the tent with the others that it was needed.

I decided to be diligent and take some photos of the before and after to document the difference. I took 3 before and an equivalent 3 after shots of each plant.

AMNESIA X OG - She has the least developed bud sites - she's the only one without any real frost yet. But she still looks pretty good and took on a nice lemon smell in the last day or so.

LIBERTY HAZE - I couldn't tame her canopy, but her airy structure should let light penetrate. Although some tops will be superior to others, they should all get what they need in terms of light. She's a massive plant and will need to be staked soon.

ROYAL GORILLA - Those central stems were a pain in the ass when I was trying to get things defoliated. The tops stacked up pretty nicely, second only to Violator Kush, and she has the frostiest tops at this point, storming into first in that department. The bud sites almost have a spongy look. This one beat the others on size, but might end up frostiest.

VIOLATOR KUSH - What can I say about this plant. She's been such a dream. Her canopy has me salivating, and it's pretty clear given how she's stacked up that if those bud sites swell, she'll be my nicest looking plant yet. I threw in a bonus canopy shot.

Here's how everything looks when all is said and done. Sorry about the lopsidedness of the last shot

Overall I'm very happy.

Tomorrow we move to week 4 nutes based on Ase's updated schedule, which he just posted up in his new journal. I'm really excited to see the flowers develop.

Thanks for following along!

Wow great looking crop. So many tasty strains. The Amnesia really steps it up mid to late flower. That liberty haze is looking pretty tall but not as bad as I expected. Loving the VK too, such great structure, I think I need a kush in my tent at some point.

Nice work DW

Ok, I'll sub in. I like the technique...... a lot!!

Looking good. Man those are some tidy girls. :welldone:can't believe we already into week 4. Only six more weeks for me
Edit: 7 weeks here I am jumping the gun already

Thanks Iti. I’m not sure with mine. Violator Kush is going to go first, I expect by around 60 days so she has about 5 weeks left. I figure Royal Gorilla won’t be much longer than that too.

Thanks UA! I think the low stand hides LH’s height well, she’s not as gangly as my Chocolope at least. Amnesia x OG still lags in the frost department but she smells good all the same.

DobeWan the Jedi Master. Very impressive as always.

Thanks JM!

Yummy yumm yummmm
:drool::drool::drool:
I neeeeed some liberty haze and royal G in my life now! Nice update and great tip about the coconut oil! I should have read this earlier;)

I’m pretty pumped to try both of those, I’ve never had Gorilla Glue so I’m going to be like a kid at Christmas when I try it!

I planted another germinated Pink Kush seed this morning so we’ll see what happens there!

Ok, I'll sub in. I like the technique...... a lot!!

Thanks Bonsai! Welcome! I usually post a few updates here and there throughout the week and aim for a big update on the weekend. Any questions any time, just ask!

24F tonight. A couple of canopy shots and a cola shot from each plant.

The whole gang shortly after lights on.

It's worth noting the relative pot heights here. Royal Gorilla's pot is at the standard height. VK and AOG were lowered about 3 inches to fit the canopy.

And then there's Liberty Haze. Lowered 10.5 inches, as low as she'll go and still fit a pan underneath, and towering 10.5 inches above Royal Gorilla. Royal Gorilla is only about 16 inches tall - Liberty Haze is about 37 inches, more than double her height.

And here are the colas. These are just a random sample from each plant - I didn't play favourites because, well, they all look very alike so far.

Amnesia OG appears to have kept stretching when the others stopped. She has a ton of growth since I defoliated. Conclusion - longer stretch period than the rest, and likely longer flower too, based on Amnesia's Haze?

Liberty Haze frosting up nicely - those are thin sugar leaves, but they're covered in frost already.

Royal Gorilla looking sticky and smelling nice already.

Violator Kush is frosting up nicely too.

Those are some beautiful plants. Extremely healthy by their color.

(Now I hope the pictures were not color corrected )

Very nice indeed.

Girls are looking good dobewan! You picked awesome strains by the look of it. And as I'm smoking on some one month cured royal gorilla that's top shelf I can tell you that your in for a treat!!

Thanks Jgrow! I got pretty excited watching yours progress, the frost yours took on was amazing. Mine are heading down that same road thankfully, frosting up faster than everything else in the tent.

Looking good my man.

Thanks Blaze!

Thanks Bonsai!

They are colour corrected...

... but only for the blurple! I used a grey card and set up an action in Photoshop to take the lighting back to natural light. It makes the plants look far truer to what I see with my eyes. I'd say these shots are a pretty good representation of their true colours.

Beautiful as usual Dobe!

How’s that baby PK?

Here is mine to show yours so it comes out to play!

Have a great day :high-five:

Grr - still no action from mine. I'll give it a few days to see what happens. If it doesn't grow, I'm going to have to complain to Reeferman, which I really don't want to do.

The other 3 plants have been smooth sailing, but their growth is slow under T5s. I'm going to pot them up in the next couple of nights. I really don't want to swap an LED out of the flower tent but this veg performance just isn't cutting it. Another light is not in the cards right now either - my next light will likely be something like a QBoard but that won't be in budget in the foreseeable future. I expected this might happen when I made the decision to leave both LEDs in the flower tent for the duration of flower. The likely outcome will be moving the smaller LED back into the veg tent and the T5s back into the flower tent, but not until after this round of flower at least. These babies are finishing with all the light I can give them.

Oh yes let those girls finish strong!! I was surprised how well my babies do under the LEDs! I thought it would be too much but now I let them chill for two days under the cfls when they first pop then right under the leds

For what it's worth newty, I would absolutely have the bloom switch on in addition to the veg switch in the veg tent. I started mine previously under my Chinese blurple LEDs (ViparSpectra) and was very happy with the veg performance. If there's one area where "traditional" LEDs excel, it's definitely performance / value in veg. These cheap blurple lights are fantastic in veg. Even when the time eventually comes to upgrade to panels, I'll be planning to stick with my blurples for veg until they break.

I'm been thinking about what I'll do if I continue to strike out with Pink Kush. If a third germed seed bites it, I'm not going to do a 4th plant from seed in my next round in flower. I'm not confident that the time I have left to veg before the flower tent is empty (7ish weeks, maybe longer for the plants with Haze genetics) is enough to get the plant to where I like it if I'm using the T5s. I'll flip Green Crack, Chemdawg, and Tuna Kush as soon as 3 of the 4 spots in the flower tent are open. I don't want to flip individually and misalign the schedule - having one nutrient mix per tent is really important to minimize mixing and feeding time.

I'm considering not doing a next round in veg after this current round is done. Flowering of the next round will finish around the end of June, by which point it'll be warm and heat will become an issue. I'm instead leaning towards experimenting both with soil and autoflowers, and doing an outdoor grow over the 3 nicest summer months - June, July, and August. I could then start in the tents again in September when the weather starts to cool. If my clones survive, I'll just keep mothers alive in the tents over the summer. I'll run a few T5s in the veg tent only, and save on electricity.

To that end - if 2 clones of one of the strains (Liberty Haze and Royal Gorilla) survive, and Pink Kush doesn't, I may just end up flowering the extra plant in the 4th spot next to Green Crack, Chemdawg and Tuna Kush. I don't want to jinx anything, but it appears that one Liberty Haze and two Royal Gorilla clones have rooted. I haven't taken the rockwool cubes out of the tray to check but the plants have the characteristic look that I remember from my previous experiments. I think more would have survived if I had kept using the humidity dome for a few more days. I was far too aggressive in taking it off and had a couple of promising clones wilt.
