15F in the flower tent! Week 3 of flower is underway!
This past week was marked by the appearance and development of flowering buds, and a ton of defoliation.
Week 3 sees me starting to boost PK and scale back N as the bud sites start to take shape and grow. KoolBloom was added and the PPM increased. The plants had a little bit of nute burn at the tips to this point, barely noticeable, so I'll keep an eye out for any change there in case I need to step them back a little for now.
Liberty Haze - She's a really big plant, and I think she's going to do well in flower in spite of her height relative to the other plants. Her growth was exceptional in veg and it forced me to take a lot of vegetation off in the end of veg and start of flower. But I am happy with where I have her now - a lot of tops and a little height variation, but good light penetration so there should be a lot of viable bud sites.
I'll likely do one last major defol late in the week, when stretch is finishing up, to get light where I want it, and to clean up the bottom half of the plant.
Ase's note on the number of tops to the canopy was an interesting one. I used it as a bit of a self check on my recent defoliation. This canopy is right in the range Ase alluded to - it has about 16 tops.
I'm really happy with how her tops stacked up - these bud sites should get good light and grow nicely.
And the top buds are already starting to take a nice shape.
There's a lot of promise with this plant. I have a few clones in the veg tent - they're all surviving, but I'll wait a few weeks and keep whatever looks the best.
Amnesia x OG - She's been a trooper. Her structure is hard to work with and the accident didn't help but she's a healthy plant now. The growth underneath her bushy fans isn't big enough to catch as much light as the fans blocking them, so my decision in some of these cases with respect to defoliation has been to leave the fans, the thinking being that I want as much light as possible for the next few days, then I'll uncover the bud sites blocked by the fans once veg growth is slowing down.
The tops have a certain heaviness to them. I wonder how this plant would do if a small number of dominant tops were allowed to grow? Quadlining but then pruning any offshoots to leave only 4 tops? The big leaves would take advantage of the open space this would provide, but the bud sites could still get light. I have another seed, whenever I end up growing it, I'll try based on the results of this grow.
She needs a little cleanup at the bottom.
The bud sites don't have the pop of the other 3 plants yet, even of the less hearty Royal Gorilla. It'll be interesting to see how they're shaped as they develop.
This plant has been through a lot and still looks healthy. As this plant was a freebie my expectations aren't off the charts, but she looks like she'll produce good bud, more on the indica side than I expected before planting the seed.
Violator Kush - I just love this plant. I love the compact, dense, bushy structure - it's perfect for a tent. I love how amazingly well everything has stacked up and how dense the colas look set to be. I love how mature and strong she is. I love that she's the main medical plant for this grow! She's going to be a killer nighttime med if things keep going down this road. In my eyes she's far and away the nicely looking plant of the bunch.
Look at how dense these colas look set to be! This is another plant where maybe less is more. Things could get really crowded and I'm going to be tempted to take any top that isn't powerful given how many strong ones I have.
My defoliation opened things up a lot, but there are still some not quite great shoots that I gave a chance to that I can spy not reaching the canopy here. I'll likely trim those in the next couple of days.
The flowers look dense and mature already relative to the other plants. She'll be the first plant to come down, without a doubt.
It was hard to get a well lit shot underneath her canopy, but check out this stem to see how dense the growth is.
I think her buds could be really fat and I could be really challenged for space. But that will be a good thing. I'm impressed with this strain since day 1. I think she's really going to deliver. I'll grow this strain again, I'm fairly certain, so next time I'll have a much better picture of how many tops she likes in the canopy. This is another strain where her density makes me suspect less could be more.
Royal Gorilla - She has seen a ton of action in the last week. Her canopy is dense but she doesn't have super strong development underneath on some stems, so I took a lot of stems off in a
mission to keep the canopy full but leave well developed stems. I mostly got there. At this point the canopy can use some bending to even things up but is fairly well defined. I'll open things up with some selective defoliation later in the week but there are only a couple of stems I'm considering removing, and I'm going to give them a shot first.
Even if this stays relatively flat, the sites at the canopy should have small but frosty and potent buds.
Although somewhat small the bud sites are really maturing nicely.
Not stacking tightly like Violator Kush, but the top buds should be nice.
I'm excited about this plant. She'll be small in size and likely yield next to a Liberty Haze or Violator Kush but looks like she could produce some really nice top bud sites.
Finally, a post-defoliation and bending pic of the canopy. I forgot to take one before starting on the plants, and bent things a bit as I went, so this will have to do. All of the individual plant pics can be considered the "before" pics!
Thanks for following everyone!
