DobeWan's Perpetual Adventure 2.0: The Reboot

Thanks for your concerns guys. I'm sore today but nothing is broken, so I'll recover soon enough. Encouraging results this morning - the branch I tried taping up died, but the main stem I broke had not wilted. I figured if it was going to die it would have wilted almost instantly, so I'm encouraged.

Good thing this didn't happen after we flipped! In a few days she will probably be back on track and ready to flip. So now one of the plants has a triline instead of a quadline? The concept of quadlining started from me by an accident of sorts. You never know when you'll "stumble" across something like that.

All joking aside, glad you are okay and no broken bones. You and that plant will have a special bond recovering together.

Oh no! I feel ya Dobe...I'm constantly tripping over myself and falling or dropping things at really bad times. Last week I fell out of my chair at work trying to look around at someone while holding my freshly made yogurt and granola...it went flying in the air and dumped all over me and on my colleagues carpeted floor.

We have something even better in common. Like Ase said, let's try this tri-line growing together.

You will have to come find one as I can't post pics right now;)

Things should get back to normal in here tomorrow. On top of hurting myself I'm also out of town tonight. So the plants are going to go 3 days without anything but feeding. Amnesia x OG is doing surprisingly well. There is significant damage on a main stem (one of the 4 in the quad line) but overall things could have been way worse. I lost 2 "1st node" offshoots from the quadlined stems and others sustained minor damage, but the quadlined stem itself isn't dying. In the end the nutrient highway was washed out but still passable I guess. I didn't dare try to get it trained properly so the plant looks kind of ridiculous but I figured that was a lesser evil than losing it. I'll probably try some bending tomorrow when I get home and might even try taking some tape off to assess the extent I can safely bend the branch to get the tops at the right height. I overcompensated when taping it up, and it's higher than the other 3 main quad line stems.

It's hard to describe this without showing pics, but I'm pretty happy with what is surviving - could have been way worse. I might be back on late tonight - I'm way behind on everyone else's journal - but if not I'll give a visual update tomorrow when I'm back home.

Alright - back in business.

Here's what I came home to today...

Clockwise, starting at back right, that's Liberty Haze, Amnesia x OG, Royal Gorilla, and Violator Kush in the back left corner. Not bad, considering they'd essentially been neglected since Sunday. I was too sore to do anything but water Sunday and Monday and was away last night.

Here's Amnesia x OG, after I propped up the bad stem (background), which was hanging loosely after the tape had loosened with the warmth of the tent and weight of the branch.

This was the first time I properly assessed the Amnesia x OG damage. She was taped quickly to save what I could on Sunday night, so I didn't really get to look at things with a clear head and view to figure out where we'd go.

I took off the tape and the damage was as I remembered - the stem was almost entirely taken off, but somehow managed to hang on by a thread of the bark at the very bottom of the knob of the node.

I didn't dare try to get a better shot, but from top down, the knob of the stem looked completely off. I can't believe it survived.

With all of the tape out of the way, I retaped it. Early in veg I'm really careful when taping anything damaged to not tape too tightly and damage the delicate stems. At this point, the stems close to the base are hard and woody, so I put the tape on fairly tightly, more concerned with ensuring it couldn't possibly move at this point.

You can easily see the other associated damage in this shot - in both the foreground and background. My hand must have come down hard on the stem that cracked, and then my fingers took out about half of the 1st node growth on the quadline - both the foreground and background quadline stems are missing one of their 1st node tops.

Once I was happy with the tape job, I re-applied the training to the branch. I took this very slowly to be safe.

I then did some defol, perhaps a little more than I intended, as I took very little off of the other plants. But she has clearly dropped behind the pack, and her dense tops blocked a lot of light, so I thought an extra defol might be a risky move to get her to get more tops to the canopy before flower starts. The other plants' canopies are dense with tops, and I'd love to get AxOG back along those lines.

Here they all are after training and defol. Liberty Haze (front left) and Violator Kush (back right) got just a little defol, mostly training, and Royal Gorilla (front right) got almost no defol or training. RG has really come on lately - not huge in size, but structured very nicely at this point. She really responded in that respect to the last round of training and defol.

Thanks for following along guys. I'll probably get some smaller photo updates up tomorrow or Friday, and I'll aim to get a big photo update of all of the plants up on Saturday as I flip to flower!

It's actually been kind of nice for me that no one has been able to upload pics. Now I'm missing my plants a ton :/

The nice part about the stakes that I use is that instead of pinning the plants down with them, I can stick them in the coco and support the branch with them instead. Something I got lucky and stumbled upon. It helps not only rely on the tape for support. Looks like they are doing alright and just in time for flipping in a few days!

The longer, more rigid wire ties work OK for this as well - they’re strong enough that I’ve used them for positioning fans around my tent, I can pretty much just wrap them around the frame of the tent and of the fan to hold it in place.

I’ll be ready - wish Amnesia x OG didn’t take a hit, but whatever, things still look ready otherwise and I’m eager to get moving with flower.

I’d say it must be tough for you to not be around your plants all week, but given that I had to clear snow from my driveway before work this morning, I think you can survive a week away in the sun!

I am guessing the raised deck is to help get air 360 to them pots. I am not fond of the flexible pots if you move the plants around much, but that sure should help.

That's right. I found in my previous grows when I had the plants sitting in saucers that the runoff would accumulate in the saucer even if I was diligent, and the plant would sit in water, making the bottom roots susceptible to rot. I tried using H2O2 to deal with it but didn't want it in every feeding, and tried perlite on the bottom of the pots but it wasn't enough on its own. So this was the solution combined with the perlite in the pots.

Nice training Dobe, I can't wait for the flip off.hey Derbybud, check out our New Years flip journal to see a bunch of great growers flowering together...pretty fn cool.Love these threads! I thought for sure you fellas would have the Valentine's Day Flip locked in;)

Too bad there's not a middle finger icon for the flip off!

Valentine's Day for me is me and all the other dudes fighting for flowers and cards on the way home from work, and then getting babysitting the following weekend so we can actually go somewhere for dinner in peace!

I'll see about starting a group journal, if no one else already has, but what would we call it?!?

Glad you are ok, bad to hear about the plants but them mean nothing.

Now to try and put some humor in this.... Did you push the "I've fallen and can't get up" button?

Around here something like that is usually preceded by "Hold my beer and watch this".

My wife came charging down the stairs, cell phone in hand, figuring she was going to have to call an ambulance based on the sound.

My buddy texted me to tell me he felt old because he fell in the shower on the weekend, and we both had a good laugh about how we're getting old. At least if they were "hold my beer" moments we'd have funnier stories to show for it!

I've actually done the whole tri-leg thing before! In my first grow while training one of my 24Ks I broke one of the 2 shortly after topping. I was worried I'd screwed up badly, but of course pw talked me down from the initial panic and it ended up finishing as the nicest plant I had. Of course that was way earlier in veg, but still. These plants can survive and thrive through a lot.

What's funny is that although I'm hardly Olympic gymnast level I'm athletic enough - I play sports recreationally year round. But I also played D&D as a kid - so I'm pretty sure I failed a saving throw!

Alright, house in order, and I should be able to catch up on my subscriptions tonight. I’m closing in on a week of not checking out journals so I’m sure I’ve missed a ton.

Can't wait for this flipping weekend! It's on to see who gets the biggest stickiest dankest nugs! Hopefully soon the app will be fixed and we can share pics again.

I'm pumped too... been waiting for this since the fall when I turned it all off. We have an awesome group.

I use my PC for pics, and it has been fine. I know lots of folks use the app but maybe a computer is an option for you?

So I'm a newbie at photos. Should I do a dark period before I go 12/12 or just adjust time on to 12 ? Just thinking

Here's what I'm going to do. I run my plants 18/6 in veg. Lights go on at 20:00. Off at 14:00.

Tonight, after lights on, I'm going to adjust my lights off timer to 08:00. So tomorrow morning, at 08:00, they'll go into their first 12 hours of darkness. From then on, they'll be on the 12/12 cycle.

You could just as easily change your lights on time to be offset by 12 hours from your lights off time. So in my case, I could instead adjust lights on to 02:00, leaving lights off at 14:00.

Just fit it to your schedule. For me I get the kids to bed, mix up my nutes, and my lights are about to come back on for 12 hours, giving me time to tend to the plants. Then I can check on them the next morning as needed too before 08:00 lights out. Running the electricity through the night instead of through the day gives me the best rates as well.
