DobeWan's First Grow! LA Confidential & 24K Gold - LED - 3x3 - Coco

I can't wait - the feeling from that first harvest is going to be so amazing. I started out a few months back wondering if I could even pull off growing my own, and now I'm getting truly excited about the prospects this "hobby" has to offer.

And what a harvest you are going to have, my friend. Your grow is quite impressive and the training techniques you have employed are definitely not beginner level. You've got this! :thumb:

Politics in the US - and everywhere really - seems to overcorrect from one side to the other every few years, before everyone gets fed up and votes the other guys back in. The ones in power now will give way to ones who might be more amenable to it in time, and with public opinion where it is and the states moving forward, maybe they'll view the time as right. I know the joke is always that Canada is the USAs kid brother, but in this case I see the tail wagging the dog. Once it's legal up here and in a bunch of states it's hard to imagine the tide turning back in the other direction away from legalization. Hopefully we all live to see that day.

Thanks Lady A! I think being unafraid - or rather, willing to accept my fears that I'm going to mess things up  - has served me well. I'm far more confident about a large portion of the process now! Nervous about properly harvesting and curing but excited to dive in there too!

Harvest and cure is super easy, we are all here for help and support. .

No worries KushGod, I have no issues with others posting up in here. That said your question is beyond my expertise so I can't help, but maybe someone else can. The Ask Us Anything thread is a good bet though!

Thanks for stopping by in any case, all are welcome in here! I'm hoping to get some new pics up tonight, should make for a good comparison to see how they're looking after a couple of days in a much improved environment!

Well I've subbed up to your thread now and I'll look forward to your progress reports .

I started out a few months back wondering if I could even pull off growing my own, and now I'm getting truly excited about the prospects this "hobby" has to offer. One thing I'm really excited for is having old smoking buddies try what I've grown - sharing my own produce with my old friends is going to be fantastic.

I remember that feeling of my first harvest. After spending far longer than I thought it would take to trim and an incredibly sore neck and back, harvest time became "work time". Then once you put all that work in you have to wait 3-4 weeks for it to be cured and prime. Man growing sure tests all aspects of patience.

Sharing your own crops with your friends is awesome. When they are on the floor from your medication and you know that was all your doing, that is greatest the feeling to me ;). Keep up the great work my friend!

I'm such an impatient person too. Seems like what's to be learned from growing goes far beyond watering and trimming!

I'm a shitty cook and can't drink beer (as much as I wish I could) much less brew it, but I definitely take pride in the fruits of my labour, and the nature of my job is lots of planning and hard work for a big ending payoff, so I think this hobby still fits well. It also helps that I really like weed!

Hey guys - can anyone help with an issue? I'm pretty sure I've diagnosed it correctly. I think I have a potassium deficiency resulting from sodium locking out potassium, thanks to feeding with Epsom salts. But I'd like advice on how best to resolve it. I think I need to flush with plain water, then resume feeding with the Epsom salts cut from the nute mix.

I'll give the long explanation below with the history and details on my nutes, so you can read on if you'd like to see how I came to this conclusion.

I first noticed yellowing bottom leaves - 1 large fan each - on the LA Confidentials at the appearance of the springtails, which was 7/11 - 24F. I'm now at 39F. The initially affected leaves eventually died on both LAs but there was only a slight yellowing of 1 other of the large bottom fans and no appearance of issues otherwise. That continued to be the case until 2 nights ago, when I posted up photos. I didn't notice a significant progression of the problem last night when I watered but I certainly did tonight...

Why do I think it's a potassium deficiency? Based on the deep yellowing then burning. Based on the timing. Based on the plants showing the issue 2 weeks ago - the LAs - really not packing on the buds like I expected. The LAs have really gone south in the last day - the plants look sad at lights on and several leaves are affected. One now has the burning from the edges in that is typical of a potassium deficiency. I'm betting that bottom leaf in the foreground is about to suffer the same fate. The 24Ks are showing signs of it for the first time on those yellowing leaves I've included in the photo. Their buds had been developing nicely of late, and everything looks sad now. I tried to get the worst spots on all plants in the photo. Unfortunately I could have caught this 2 weeks ago and didn't diagnose it correctly. I blamed the springtails and thought things had recovered, but it only hung around then quickly progressed in a changed environment.

I think the likeliest culprit is Epsom salts - their sodium locking the potassium out. It certainly isn't from a lack of feeding potassium - the ladies have been getting KoolBloom for the last week and a half or so; I had intended to stop with tonight's feeding. For the last week and a half or so the girls have gotten...

1/5 tsp/gallon Epsom salts
9ml/gallon Bloom
7ml/gallon KoolBloom
0.5 ml/litre Potassium Silicate
0.375 ml/litre H2O2

I'd generally been cutting this in half for much of flower to stave off the excess nitrogen showing on the leaves. I generally fed nutrients 2 of every 3 nights during flower, and plain water otherwise. The Potassium Silicate was fed on plain water nights since mid-veg and H2O2 added on plain water nights 2 weeks ago after the springtails showed up. The Epsom salts were added at the start of flower and fed on nute nights. The issue showed 3 weeks after starting Epsom salts. Or earlier, if you consider all of my stretch and how it's a symptom of K deficiency.

How should I resolve it? I think I need to toss my nutes and re-mix them without Epsom salts. I think I need to flush with plain water, then resume feeding with the Epsom salts removed. Should I feed tonight, or just flush? Keep in mind they're used to having plain water nights, but then only 10-30% or so of runoff. Maybe flush with a low amount of nutes, like a 10-20% dose? Should I do anything more aggressive? Should I add CalMag to replace some of the intended effect of the Epsom salts?

It had only been the lower leaves, but climbed up in the last day. I can take close ups of the leaves if it would help - on the top plant in the photo, there's a leaf that has the sides-inward burn. Last night, I noticed the leaf but had no idea what a look of burnt tips down the side of the leaf on either side meant - tonight, that part of the leaf is almost entirely burnt from the outside in. I'm afraid it's progressing too quickly for me to not flush, even if it's flushing with a low nute dose just to try to get the sodium out.

In Coco you could flush a couple days in a row, there will still probably be some residual compounds after that, have you flushed yet in flower?

I'm doing a proper flush now, running plain water PHed to 5.75-5.80. I have the LA runoff PPM down almost to what is going in. About to do the 24Ks.

Unfortunately I'm almost out of water that I'd let stand for a couple of days, so I'm down to tap water. So I reserved a bucket with 14L of water that has been left for a couple of days (PPM of 82 vs 104 from the tap). I'll run this water through all 4 plants last to try to get the PPM down as close as possible to 82. I also feel this is necessary since my water is chlorinated.

Flushing all 4 is hard work, but I absolutely want to avoid the 24Ks taking as much of a hit as the LA Confidentials, so I want to avoid damage before I take too much.

This is my first time flushing in flower. I did not flush at the transition to flower. I did a minor flush early in veg due to pH issues. I feel this is too early to stop feeding the LA Confidentials. They're 5.5 weeks in. DNA gives them 7-8 weeks which I assumed would mean 9-10.

What I have been doing with the coco gals is give them a flush with just PH'd RO water at 5.8 about every 7 days since they have been in flower, I have read on a few sites that when you get into the middle and beyond of flower, the pots tend to get root bound and that holds more of the compounds.

I do it when I do a res change on the RDWC, I just do about a 30-40% run-off. What are your PPM's at week 6? Mine are around 720-740 at 5.8 PH.
