DIY Stealth Cab, Hydro, LED & Multiple Strains in Small Space - Oh Boy!

Hi T2 - one problem with topping off with more nutes is that plants "cherry pick" the nutrients and take out certain nutrients and leaving others. If you keep adding more nutrients, you are potentially adding more of certain nutrients than the plant can take/need and the balance of nutrients in the reservoir gets out of wack - I'm not sure if I'm explaining this right - but that's the general gist. A ppm meter helps measure the total dissolved solids in the nutrient solution, but you don't really know what it's composed of so it's hard to only replenish the parts that need to be replenished.

IMHO it's better to only top off with more water if needed, and do weekly res. changes so that you're starting from a clean, known slate again. I personally like knowing where my PPM's are and find my TDS pen (PPM meter) very useful. Just my 2 cents worth!

Well spoken. :thumb: I second that.

Excellent point that was not as clearly articlulated in my post! :Namaste:

QUICK PIC UPDATE

It's been 44 days of 12/12 for the AK and 42 days for the haze, but the haze looks a good 2-3 weeks behind the AK in terms of bud development.

The buds on the AK continue to fill in and bulk up, although, not really quick enough for me! :)

The odor is getting stronger, but still not as prevalent as I had expected. But, after touching some of the buds, you really get the smell on your fingers and can get a good idea of what the finished product might smell like.

Please, just don't ask how I got the idea to smell my fingers! :laughtwo:

I gave the girls another foliar of SSU this morning. I also moved/tied most of the larger AK colas towards the center so they were directly under the LED and opened up some area to get one of the CFL lights on some of the many lower buds, while giving side-lighting to some of the larger ones.

You can see one of the lower buds that's now getting some good light here:

Here's some more of the main buds which are still too small to think about smoking. Trich's are about 50% clear and 50% cloudy:

And, you can see how far behind the haze is...here's what her flowers are looking like:

Looking great Mr. Krip! Is your feeding schedule maxed out now? This is when they should really be eating a lot and fattening up I would think. I wouldn't hesitate getting rid of any fan leaves that are blocking bud sites either, light to the buds is the game now :bravo:

Thanks, Blue! Yeah, I was actually maxxed on the GH "agressive bloom" mix three weeks ago, I was above their max two weeks ago, I switched to AN nutes at AN's max bloom mix last week, and I went just above AN's suggested max this week. They also have extra doses of Bud Candy & Big Bud and an agressive dose of DM Zone, plus foliar sprayed some Snow Storm Ultra again this morning.

As for the fan leaves, I did another trimming when I did res changes Sunday, but I've also been maintaining it daily.

It's a definite jungle in there, I just need those buds to fatten up and I'll be doing real good. The only reason I'm not panicking over bud size right now is that it looks like I'll have close to another four weeks and I know most of the weight comes towards the end.

I really appreciate your help & input!
:thankyou:

Please xcuse my ignorance... what is SSU?

Are looking for amber and how much coverage per bud or plant will trigger you to harvest?

:rollit:

Hey, MacG! SSU is "Snow Storm Ultra" by Emerald Triangle. It's a beneficial bacteria that gets 'em nice & frosty and boosts resin production.

I'm looking more for a couch-lock effect, so was initially planning on harvesting at 75% amber, or so, BUT, some experienced growers pointed me to a thread on another board that discusses some other "more reliable" signs to look for than trichome color alone. These include things like the pistils getting "absorbed" back into the buds and the fan leaves yellowing as the plant feeds off itself.

So, the trich's will be more of a "secondary" check for me once the other signs point that she's ready.

Since most of the weight comes towards the end, I'd rather be a little late than a little early...just not TOO late, but that's NOT going to happen! :)

Thanks for the info. I have been using Gen Hyd Subculture B and I think it's been working fine. At least the girls are getting something... lolo

As far as the trich's, I seem to remember waiting (been a lonnng time :smokin:) until the pistils were almost entirely curled and browning over most of the upper 1/2 of plants buds. I'd like to read that info if have you have easy access to it.

:thanks:

No problem...I sent info by PM

Hey Mr. Krip! Every time I type your name I think of this classic....

YouTube - The Beatles - Being for the benefit of Mr.Kite

Can you share your foliar spraying technique with us? Do you worry about spray getting on the buds?

I don't have the best sense of smell but I had to also pretty much gently squeeze the buds and smell my fingers too or I couldn't smell anything.

Now that they're cured though, they stink. I can put a tiny bud in a baggie and if it gets warm it stinks to high heaven... I do all my transporting in jars or sealed plastic containers now.

Weed is funny isn't it? I think the bubba kush is the best, another friend says no contest it's the lucy, and then there's the ak which for me is 2nd best haha. All 3 kick ass so that's what counts in the end. :peace:

Howdy Mr. K -

It looks like everything is going swimmingly, but I just noticed something I wanted to float by you... I've never used Snow Storm Ultra, but I looked into it recently, and I seem to remember that they recommended using a lower PPM in your reservoir when using SSU... It sounded like you were using both a high PPM with your nutrients, and applying SSU. Just want to make sure that you are on top of this and not shocking your plants too much or burning them.

Like I said - things look good and it sounds like they're all healthy, but I noticed that and wanted to just make sure you are taking all of that into consideration... They sure look healthy and yummy! :yummy:
