DIY Stealth Cab, Hydro, LED & Multiple Strains in Small Space - Oh Boy!

Hey man, good to here you got your temps under control, I'm battling some highs myself with my HID but I'm excited to see how you have your fans, might help me circulate my air better. I had the same difficulty when attempting to sex my plants this grow, sorry I couldn't relay this picture sooner. Rest assure though, when you see those two white hairs at the node you'll know, it may only be one node on the whole plant, but you'll know :thumb: ;) Glad to hear your worst problem is how to keep your kush small enough!

Hydro, thanks. Here's what I did to lower the temps in veg...

I picked up this $10 box fan at the dollar store:

fan110.jpg

I put it right in front of the passive intake so it would draw the cool air in from outside the cab:

fan24.jpg

And, since the intake should be at the bottom of the cab (cool air rises), then agle the fan so it's blowing up (just lean it against the back wall) around the plants and up at the lights to blow the warm air off the light.

A side note is that you should also get longer bulb life by keeping your lights cooler!

I hope that helps!

Hi Mr. Krip ! :grinjoint:

What a great journal you have going my friend. Pictures on what you talk about and that helps everyone. I learn from seeing things and you help allot.
I visited Uncle Ben's and have been doing the same thing for years. My second grow I had a Columbian Gold with eight colas. It works! The before and after pictures are living proof of how it works...LST. Fine job my friend! :high-five:

Mahalo, OMM! :thanks:

I've learned so much from you & all the other experienced growers here on :420: I really wanted to contribute back to the community even though I thought I'd never start an online journal.

I have seen some amazing results from UBT, so I'm really looking forward to trying it. That 8-cola CG must have been awesome! Do you remember what your yield was on that monster? I bet it looked more like a big cactus than an MJ plant when it was done!
:Namaste:

Most of this stuff is really strain dependent. Some strains will show sex early, while others may not show sex until they have been flowering for a few weeks. Like OMM said, it would help if you put a picture up to help us understand what you are seeing, then we may be able to help yu out. Thing are going good for you, it seems like your learning a ton, experience in growing teaches you immeasurably!
Peace,
NEPharmer

Hey, NEP...I think you're a little late to the party! :)

We resolved the flowering issue a couple pages back and there were plenty of pics.

I think OMM was saying he appreciated all the pics and was not asking for more, but OMM, please correct me if I'm wrong. :smokin:

thats like the biggest plant i got, its got 1 pistil on the whole damn thing...like my first plant i grew though, it looked like it was startin to bud before any pistils even grew..like the question i was askin ,, can u tell its a female that way??

Sukafr33: Yes, sometimes - if you're seeing that there are probably other signs as well. Tough to tell without a picture.

I'm guessing NEPharmer saw Sukafr33's post when he posted this - just a guess...

Looking good Mr. Krip - love the before/after LST pictures. Very nice! :high-five:

OK, here's a few of the girls this morning...

Busy day, but I'll try to get more in later!

Mr Krip Sorry, all I could find was total dry weight for the whole grow. That was 16.5 onces. Seems like I got 4.5 oz off of her. She was in a POM contest a few months ago. She was a beauty. :yummy:

Yo thanks for the before's and afters krip! I appreciate the example of LSTing.

Nice! :morenutes:

Sorry for lack of updates over last day or so. Have some family things I've been dealing with this weekend so haven't been around to update.

I decided to wait until tomorrow to do the res changes since I just gave them a nice shot of nutes on Thursday instead of just topping off with water. Plus, I'm short on time again, today, so it's just easier to do tomorrow when things are a little less crazy.

All the plants are doing well. I put the AK's PPM's just over 1400 on Thursday and she's not complaining a bit! She's now over 20" tall and just finished her first week in flower. I REALLY hope I can keep her in control, but again, it's one of the better problems to have.

I did finally have to attach the carbon filter for some extra odor control, but I'm still only running the vent fan for 15 minutes each hour. There are two times during the day where I do it at two 15 minute intervals in the same hour to give some extra ventillation/cooling during the hottest times of the day.

I don't think I'm gonna have time to post pics today, but I most definately will tomorrow after I do the res changes, and do the UBT and clone the top on the PE.

Have a great day! :roorrip:

PIC UPDATE #1 - FLOWER

It's day #8 of flower for the AK and day #6 of flower for the haze.

I just finished the res changes on the waterfarms, so thought I'd update on what's going on in the flower chamber today.

First, I'm running out of room quick! :)

flower116.jpg

The Haze is definately getting squeezed but she's doing ok trying to claim her side of the cab:

RH16.jpg

She's getting big:

RH21.jpg

And has a decent canopy forming considering her limited room:

RH31.jpg

The AK is also having space problems. She wants to burst out of the cab! You can get an idea of how much space she's taking up with the Haze removed from the cab:

AK120.jpg

She's getting about as tall as I'll be able to handle:

AK213.jpg

And she's got a real full canopy:

AK37.jpg

And an awesome rootball:

AK43.jpg

Veg side is next, so I'll post some more pics on that later!

Happy Harvests!

PIC UPDATE #2 - VEG

Things are moving along nicely in the veg side of the cab, also. I just topped all the hempys off with nutes.

The first AK clone is doing well and starting to grow like her mom. This plant has some great genetics and I'm definately going to try to keep them going if the smoke is halfway decent:

AK-CL1.jpg

Here's another view of the same clone:

AK-CL12.jpg

The other three clones I took last week from the same mother (I took four but one wilted and was discarded) are holding there own, but still no visible roots. I do expect to see some this week:

AK-CL2.jpg

The Hempy Haze is also vegging well. I had to adjust her LST to help keep her in control for a while:

HH11.jpg

The Lucy is still small but she's still alive and growing. I think I'm gonna clone her soon and see if she has better luck when rooted in anything but that STG grow cube I started her with:

LS129.jpg

The PE really was the "picture-perfect" MJ plant. Really looks and smells nice:

PE16.jpg

But, as I mentioned, I was eager to try Uncle Ben's Topping technique to try to get four main colas.

You're supposed to top between the 2nd and third "true nodes". I'm not exactly sure what constitues a "true" node, but I did NOT count the cotyledons or first set of leaves. Worst case, I'm one node high and should get two main colas.

Here she is after the UBT:

PE5.jpg

After I did the UBT, I cloned the top:

PE-CL1.jpg

And, here's what the veg side looks like currently:

v13.jpg

That should make up for my lack of updates the past couple of day! :)

Happy Harvests!

Looking good! :cheer:

I'm not very familiar with the Uncle Ben's topping thing - what's the difference between that and the fim tecnique/ fimming? Seems like about the same thing?

XLR8, I HIGHLY recommend you google "Uncle Bens Topping" and you'll see the thread. It's on another board, but well worth the read and there is a big difference. I'm not saying one is necessarily better than the other, just that they are different.

With UBT, you top at a specific point to get either two or four MAIN colas. You can top elsewhere to get multiple colas, but these end up being "secondary" colas that will not produce as much bud as the main cola.

FIM actually stands for "F*CK I Missed!" and it's similar to topping except when you top, you also cut through the node itself, or the new growth (I'm not as familliar with this technique). My understanding is that it has a similar effect to topping (NOT to UBT, but regular topping) but is also much less reliable in that it's tough to predict the results.

With UBT, if done correctly (and it's easy, if you can count the nodes!) you'll get either two or four (depending on where you top) primary colas every time.

Well put my friend;)
The sooner you can top the better. Then in a week or so top the tops. Even if you think the colas are smaller they still add up. :high-five:

Yo those plants continue to look BOMB krip!
Justs wanted to let you and everyone here know that I just changed my ame from PacificGrown to HYDROLOGIST, a full explanation can be found in my 3/4 veg journal.
