Oh my gosh! I'm so excited now I'm no longer tired.

Congratulations! Hope you grow the best Dark Devil ever!
There appear to be two different types, though to be honest I think I'm the only one who got the tight, stocky phenotype. I grew both types in my tent this last time. Take a look at everyone else's and you'll see the taller, leafy phenotype with big, chunky buds.
Thinking about it, I may be completely wrong there. I started under typical conditions of 18/6 lighting, but when I set up the tent I went to 10/14 and then when I started the next three they ended up under 11/13 because I knew I had to take the tent down early. That means I never grew any of my four out under proper lighting.
Huh! Dealing with the grief I never registered this, and I probably wouldn't have connected those dots if you hadn't brought it up. Wow! I missed that entirely. This means when I start back up I'll be under 18/6 again and I should expect to get the same plant profile everyone else is getting.
BrixNewb, I could kiss you.
Ah Sue, you connected those dots without any help from me. I simply said "pheno." My girl is under 20/4 with a nice big 600 watt MH with one Mars Hydro 300 watt old style on the side of that, so she is definitely getting plenty of light right now. I sure hope my girl has the big chunky buds too!

My DD poked her head above ground last evening after four and a half days in the rapid rooter. She is sooooo tiny. About 3/8 of an inch from leaf tip to tip.
Good plan Brix - I run all my autos from start to finish 20/4 in my VEG room with photo strain girls in VEG - seems to work VERY well for me.
I believe I'll follow your example then BB. You grow such consistently beautiful plants in your tent. Atrain recently said he now runs all is autos under 20/4 as well. Why mess with a successful formula?
That stuff's atrocious, but unfortunately it's been my mainstay for a long time. What really got me is that I got a chunk of it once where one side had been sliced. The sliced surface was so hard and smooth that it was slightly shiny, like well-sanded wood. It was that dense. What's really sad about the stuff is that is gets crunched so hard that the seed oil comes out. That's a double shame, first because it ruins the taste, and second because some of those seeds can grow out into pretty nice plants.
On the plus side, I can always smoke my bookshelves if I get really hard up.
First confession of a forum noob. It was this DDA group that convinced me to start an account here in the first place. I placed a seed order just a couple of days ago that went like this:
10 Satori
7 Sweet Coffee Ryder
and
10 Dark Devil Auto
I got interested in the DD while browsing seed catalogs. Went looking for some strain reviews, which led me here and jacked up my interest considerably. The smoke reports and pictures kept me locked to the computer when I shoulda been doing chores. See, I'm limited to two types of bud locally. That Mexican stuff that's been compressed so much that you could make bookshelves with it and CCBH,G (Clueless College Boy Hydro, Generic) which is a remarkably unremarkable smoke. It's been years since I smoked anything exciting.
I'm still real paranoid about trying to grow anything. Indoors isn't an option atm. Outdoors is iffy, mainly because of the vast herds of whitetail deer around here who will eat anything that's not behind wire. But I've been thinking that maybe, just maybe, I could pull off a small, stealthy, outdoor grow with an auto strain. The idea would be to plant so that harvest happens right around the June solstice. That would give the flowers the maximum amount of daylight to finish in, and it avoids the really hot, dry part of the summer. Does that make sense?
One other thing about this kinda-sorta plan. For most of the plants, I'd dig a container-size hole and fill it with good soil. But I'd also want to try a couple in the native dirt, just to see how that affects growth and performance.
So that's the story and my real introductory post. I'm intrigued by the DD strain, and I might try to grow some starting around April. In the meantime, I'm thoroughly enjoying reading about what you folks are doing, and I'm loving the pictures.
