Dark Devil Auto: A Community Grow Record

Oh my gosh! I'm so excited now I'm no longer tired. :laughtwo:

Congratulations! Hope you grow the best Dark Devil ever!

I'm going to shoot for alive and healthy, if I hit better that average I'll be a happy toker.

Mine will be under 24/0 at least until it shows sex. Will probably give it a dark cycle in flowering.

There appear to be two different types, though to be honest I think I'm the only one who got the tight, stocky phenotype. I grew both types in my tent this last time. Take a look at everyone else's and you'll see the taller, leafy phenotype with big, chunky buds.

Thinking about it, I may be completely wrong there. I started under typical conditions of 18/6 lighting, but when I set up the tent I went to 10/14 and then when I started the next three they ended up under 11/13 because I knew I had to take the tent down early. That means I never grew any of my four out under proper lighting.

Huh! Dealing with the grief I never registered this, and I probably wouldn't have connected those dots if you hadn't brought it up. Wow! I missed that entirely. This means when I start back up I'll be under 18/6 again and I should expect to get the same plant profile everyone else is getting.

BrixNewb, I could kiss you. :kisstwo:

Ah Sue, you connected those dots without any help from me. I simply said "pheno." My girl is under 20/4 with a nice big 600 watt MH with one Mars Hydro 300 watt old style on the side of that, so she is definitely getting plenty of light right now. I sure hope my girl has the big chunky buds too!

That's exactly what you should expect. Those lights are going to make your girl very happy and that's really good news for you. So far the smoke/vape reports have been quite encouraging. :laughtwo:

Ooooo....! I wonder if I can get one to produce enough for concentrated cannabis oil production? If the seeds are stable enough that's a distinct possibility. Now my mind's racing with the possibilities. It's already been proven to be a big yielded under the proper management. It's a matter of learning to do it myself. At the very least it means more purple butter for more brownies. :slide:

Ok, now the eyes are tired enough that I can barely see, so I must bid you all good night.

My DD poked her head above ground last evening after four and a half days in the rapid rooter. She is sooooo tiny. About 3/8 of an inch from leaf tip to tip.

Good plan Brix - I run all my autos from start to finish 20/4 in my VEG room with photo strain girls in VEG - seems to work VERY well for me.

I believe I'll follow your example then BB. You grow such consistently beautiful plants in your tent. Atrain recently said he now runs all is autos under 20/4 as well. Why mess with a successful formula?

heya sue,, how are things,,:Namaste:

a busy lady you are,, wishing you all the best for your new year, 2016,, if nothing else will be interesting indeed,,

i still think of you both, then i get sad,, like now

most times i like being so emotional,, sometimes not so much,,

i have started a new journal,, nothing groundbreaking, just a place to blather and post some photos,, you know,,

please stop in for a visit when time permits,, i would be honoured,,

cheers sue,, :Namaste:

When it comes to growing I follow two ideologies:

The Church of Doc Bud

and

The A-Train Ministry

Doc Bud and his followers consistently grow plants of the caliber I hope to achieve, so when I need guidance I pray to them. When it comes to autos Father A-Train has some of the most amazing plants out there. He said 20/4 is where it's at if you don't mind the extra power expense, so that's what I do. I have little experience, but my faith is strong and I let my faith lead the way. The Church of Green Pastures. Amen.

I do it so I can VEG my Photo period plants and autos in the same space/light. I could probably go less light for the autos so they stretch but I only want to have so many plants... it gets too much like work other wise. This is not my day job unfortunately.

I got another few ladies going again. Something about this cultivar that really peaks my interest. Me love the dark buds... tasty very tasty, IF I can let them cure ....

Next up are 2 dark devils one is purple at 21 days after seed pop the other is the same age but has a different shape and color but is starting with the purple just a wee bit behind this one. She got purple faster than any I've grown so far.

I expect this plant to be totally purple/black at harvest! I'm excited.. this is the earliest I've seen this color so far. She's still pretty small tho... 2 zips is my goal here.

This is the different one..... she's easily 2x the size of her sister and just starting to get the purple flowers.

First confession of a forum noob. It was this DDA group that convinced me to start an account here in the first place. I placed a seed order just a couple of days ago that went like this:

10 Satori
7 Sweet Coffee Ryder
and
10 Dark Devil Auto

I got interested in the DD while browsing seed catalogs. Went looking for some strain reviews, which led me here and jacked up my interest considerably. The smoke reports and pictures kept me locked to the computer when I shoulda been doing chores. See, I'm limited to two types of bud locally. That Mexican stuff that's been compressed so much that you could make bookshelves with it and CCBH,G (Clueless College Boy Hydro, Generic) which is a remarkably unremarkable smoke. It's been years since I smoked anything exciting.

I'm still real paranoid about trying to grow anything. Indoors isn't an option atm. Outdoors is iffy, mainly because of the vast herds of whitetail deer around here who will eat anything that's not behind wire. But I've been thinking that maybe, just maybe, I could pull off a small, stealthy, outdoor grow with an auto strain. The idea would be to plant so that harvest happens right around the June solstice. That would give the flowers the maximum amount of daylight to finish in, and it avoids the really hot, dry part of the summer. Does that make sense?

One other thing about this kinda-sorta plan. For most of the plants, I'd dig a container-size hole and fill it with good soil. But I'd also want to try a couple in the native dirt, just to see how that affects growth and performance.

So that's the story and my real introductory post. I'm intrigued by the DD strain, and I might try to grow some starting around April. In the meantime, I'm thoroughly enjoying reading about what you folks are doing, and I'm loving the pictures.

Joe, that compressed Mexican pot comment made me laugh,, reps to you Joe,,:high-five:

I live in Canada but spent near a year in Texas, every inch of it,, loved it,, and had never seen anything quite like that brown, dirt, hard as nails Mexican pot,, not just ugly either, oh no,, that's not enough,, ugly and pathetically weak,, it has it all,, i actually threw away near a half pound one day,, first time we saw a border guard with a dog,,, in the garbage it went,, did I feel bad about it,, well, honestly, I did, for one second,,:welcome:

That stuff's atrocious, but unfortunately it's been my mainstay for a long time. What really got me is that I got a chunk of it once where one side had been sliced. The sliced surface was so hard and smooth that it was slightly shiny, like well-sanded wood. It was that dense. What's really sad about the stuff is that is gets crunched so hard that the seed oil comes out. That's a double shame, first because it ruins the taste, and second because some of those seeds can grow out into pretty nice plants.

On the plus side, I can always smoke my bookshelves if I get really hard up. ;)

Hey, Smokey Joe, welcome to 420Magazine and Sue's most awesome thread! Thanks for your comments -- I think you may like it here. Everyone is legitimately friendly, helpful -- and there are so many experienced folks that you can't help but learn something every single day. This thread encouraged me to order a few DD seeds (seriously, Sue, you should get a kick-back or something :)) -- between the knock-out colour and the smoke reports, it just seems like a must-try.

I've never encountered Mexican brick weed (well, maybe as a teenager, but my memories are a little vague :)) but your description is amazing :) Also loved "Clueless College Boy Hydro, Generic". heh heh heh. My own specialty is "Clueless Middle Aged Chick Coco, Generic" :)

And all the best with your grow -- a stealthy outdoor grow sounds like it could work for you really well!

Here's my Dark Devil at 6 weeks old, yesterday:

Sadly, I burned her :( But I have her in a better place in the tent now, where she's safe

So pretty. I love how her sugar leaves are turning purple, too!

Good grief, the two of you had me rolling on the floor. CCBH,G. LOL! It's so true though. Once you harvest even the smallest popcorn bud to taste test there's no turning back. It's a blessing and a curse to grow your own. A blessing because you realize you were made to smoke this type of quality and you proved to yourself it was possible. A curse because you'll never be satisfied with handing your money over to someone for what you know will be inferior quality, no matter what they say about how good it's supposed to be.

I think the biggest difference is that we handle our buds like they were fine crystal. All the trichomes are preserved intact. And we cure our produce properly. Well, we try to, as BB alludes to. Hahaha!

Joe, I'm so pleased we were the impetus for your joining this wonderful community of cultivator's. My plan is working. :laughtwo: I warn you, we're an addictive bunch.

I'll be interested in seeing how your outdoor grow goes. I believe you'll be the first of us to try growing the DDA outdoors, so you'll be an invaluable addition to the documentation. I'd been considering sneaking one onto my third floor balcony this spring, which I've pretty much blocked from view from street level. I want to see what one does under Sol Systems. We may be starting at about the same time.

Heya, Glimmer, and thanks for the welcome. I think you're right about SweetSue deserving some kickbacks. When I first started looking for info on DD, her posts were the first source I checked, and they really encouraged me.

I like your plant, but I couldn't help noticing the hair on the chair. Looks just like the chair I'm sitting in now! With 5 dogs and 2 cats, it's almost impossible to keep up with the excess fur. I don't even dig it out of my coffee any more. I figure if the cats can handle hairballs, so can I.

Your plant looks real nice. I see a lot of purplish strains in the catalogs, but something about that DD color is real appealing. Looking forward to hearing how that lady smokes when she's done.
