Dark Devil Auto: A Community Grow Record

My big Dark Devil Auto at day 56 looked quite sad last night, for the last week she has been on a diet of nothing but water delivered by a friend who can kill pretty much anything she sees, just by looking at it, she was the only option, seeing as it was Xmas. Most of her fan leaves had gone yellow and crispy, they came of with a light pull. The ones that didn't come off I left on, she does have some green tho. The rest of her now looks quite well she was quite droopy last night but she has pipped up after a feed. Her buds are fat, frosty and showing no sign of fade.

I've been smoking my Jack Herer. :passitleft:

Maybe I'll give DD a try tomorrow. :lot-o-toke:

I'm skeptical about a 24 hour buzz. I start smoking about 5:30 each morning and I'm usually good for about 6 hours, then toke up again. We shall see.

Best to let the buds cure some.

Warning: you will start to smoke it and it will be your daily until gone. You won't care about the green taste.

my .02 - TIFWIW

It will get stronger with a little cure too so that helps.

I gave a few buds to a friend of mine the other day for x-mas. He's more of a vap guy with oils and such. Not a light weight, he was asking me if I can share some more of that purple bud with him.... He's going to have to spend more "quality" time with me to get more!! hahaha just sayin.

Next round in the pots:

Those look great!! My DD have just sprouted and I'm very excited to see them get to the point yours are...

Alright guys, not a ton to see here. This round I decided to try my hand at autos. Off to a crappy start with Dark Devil really being the exception. Planted her on 12/15/2015 and she took about a week to come above ground. By my calculations she is about 9 days old today and looking pretty darn good.

Hey there Mr A - nice looking buds there buddy! :thumb:

That's the way I like to see mine at the end.

Re: crispy leaves... That's what happens to plants naturally - same as trees in the fall = senescence.

Leaves operate like a energy sink for the fist half of their lives (store energy).

The 2nd half of their lives they are an energy source, in that they actually supply the flowers or buds in our case with nutrients and energy so that the flowers have the energy to reproduce.

What I do is let them be, once they are used up and all the energy has been translocated from leaf to bud they eventually fall off. I know it's hard to let them stay as the plant doesn't "look" as pretty but they are performing a very useful purpose.

There's another reason for leaving them on the stem. The plant when it detects leaves being torn off or eaten or whatever, it will send out a message to the rest of the plants in the neighborhood (via feramones) that there's some sort of infestation or animal eating me and the neighboring plants as well as the host plant, will start to produce enzymes in the leaves that will help with fighting off pests. This in and of itself is not a big deal but I want my plants happy and putting all energies to producing top shelf flowers not trying to fight off some non-issue.

Easy read and very informative - changed they way I look at the forest when hiking & plants in our garden.

+ reps, bobbrown -- that's very useful information ... I also realize I totally neglected to tell you how gorgeous your girls look -- beautiful photos of very beautiful plants.

GUYS, my girl is OFFICIALLY GOING PURPLE for New Year's!

I'm so excited I can't sit still!

Here's the plant as a whole at 37 days:

And here's another shot of a bud where you can clearly see the sugar leaves start to turn colour, too:

Thanks so much for all your help -- I am just thrilled with this beauty.

I am also treating one bud site with colloidal silver to produce pollen so I can produce my own auto Dark Devil seeds, because I think I'm going to want to grow this plant often!

Please be sure to keep good notes for us. If this breeding process works out, I'd sure like to know the details. Good luck GG.

Well all 4 came up but one has not done anything except break the surface, not sure what to think. Just going to let it do its thing I guess. Seeing all these DD grows has me very excited for these girls.

MagicJim's stunning specimen that he just harvested took so long to get going that we dubbed it "special". It turned out to be one of the most beautiful plants in this grow yet and he loves the buzz. Be patient. Some simply take longer to get their feet under them. Control that wet/dry cycle and let them dry out until the cups feel like they have only air in them. She'll catch up. :battingeyelashes:

Hello everyone, I've been following this thread with real interest. I can't wait to grow one of these out.

I have a run of autos that will go under the light as soon as my SomaRi has finished. There won't be a DD in there this time, as I was unable to get single DD seeds from anywhere here in Bree, only 3 packs.

I grow in a 1m square tent so at the moment, I'm going for a nice variety.

Good luck with all your lovely grows. I'll be back to join your ranks in a couple of months.

Peace.

Welcome to the community grow Barliman. I hope you'll stick around and continue to engage us in conversation now and then as you await the opportunity to buy your own seed and start. I got my initial two seeds as singles from Herbie's.
