Dark Devil Auto: A Community Grow Record

When it comes to growing I follow two ideologies:

The Church of Doc Bud

and

The A-Train Ministry

Doc Bud and his followers consistently grow plants of the caliber I hope to achieve, so when I need guidance I pray to them. When it comes to autos Father A-Train has some of the most amazing plants out there. He said 20/4 is where it's at if you don't mind the extra power expense, so that's what I do. I have little experience, but my faith is strong and I let my faith lead the way. The Church of Green Pastures. Amen.

First off glimmer, she's coming along beautifully. Great pictures. The burn will only crank up trichome production. No real harm done.

BrixNewb, I hear you. I ran LOS and the kit in my last grow, and I'll probably always have a kit plant either in the grow or planning to add in. Having said that I have to tell you that the two soils grow very comparable quality of produce and LOS is much simpler to maintain. If I were being honest I'd have to admit that the produce harvested from my LOS no-till excelled in quality, but not significantly enough to make that much difference. I did find that the strong Sativa strains love the kit approach and my small pots may end up as kit plants because it was easier to get the quality in that tiny soil matrix with Doc's approach. Duggan doesn't come here so he won't hear me say that. :laughtwo: My penchant for the small pots drives him to distraction.

I'm going to try my next Carnival in LOS and see if it makes a difference. I'll be growing it for oil production so yield is as important as quality. It'll be interesting to compare the harvests.

I couldn't agree with you more about Atrain.

I wonder if Sweet Seeds is even aware of this community grow? I should look into that. I'm supposed to be writing, so I'll save that mystery for another time. I have to get back to work, but it was great fun stopping in on my way to my studies.

Thank you all for the tremendous support of this thread. I'm thinking of starting another for Carnival when I plant next month. I will now leave the thread in your capable hands and get back to work. :circle-of-love:

Heya, SweetSue! Yeah, you and a few of these other folks got me hooked. I haven't smoked anything for about a year because I got tired of throwing money away on low quality. (Got tired of waiting in parking lots, too.) I'm a huge fan of the forbidden flower, and I've been smoking since 1976, so you can imagine how bad things had to get to make me just stop.

If I'm the first one here to do an outdoor grow of the DD, I guess I'll have to journal it. Not a problem. I have a decent camera, and I like typing. I'm also a tech writer by day, so documenting stuff is what I do. The only thing cooler than successfully growing some of the Devil would be adding a little bit to the knowledge pool. That would help pay back some of the massive amounts of knowledge I'm getting.

What a morning. I've gone from ordering some seeds, but not being sure if I want to grow them to being on the hook for a grow journal and starting to scout sites. The Dark Devil cult has gained another follower, and it's all your fault. ;)

I'm feeling very happy about this....

That purple flower has addictive power, I'm hooked (also a new grower)

I hear you about LOS. If I end up doing this for a while I may look into LOS after I exhaust my kit materials. It seems like a simple way to grow and that appeals to me. For now being a newb, I feel comfortable with the kit after seeing what I accomplished on my first grow.

Heya, Glimmer, and thanks for the welcome. I think you're right about SweetSue deserving some kickbacks. When I first started looking for info on DD, her posts were the first source I checked, and they really encouraged me.

I like your plant, but I couldn't help noticing the hair on the chair. Looks just like the chair I'm sitting in now! With 5 dogs and 2 cats, it's almost impossible to keep up with the excess fur. I don't even dig it out of my coffee any more. I figure if the cats can handle hairballs, so can I.

Your plant looks real nice. I see a lot of purplish strains in the catalogs, but something about that DD color is real appealing. Looking forward to hearing how that lady smokes when she's done.

Welcome to 420mag Smoky.... Satori huh?? That's a REAL nice cultivar! Go check out my journal - I've been running Krystalica perpetual for a few years and is a sister to Satori from the same source; Mandala Seeds.

Satori are regular seeds - not FEM seeds. So some amount of attention to detail is in order (cull males) but are generally very easy to grow. When you're ready to germinate we are here for you when/if you need any help.

All the seed you picked out is top shelf, by that I mean connoisseur top shelf not to be confused with dispensary top shelf. One puff and you know you're in the right place!

Heya, Bob! Just taking a short break, so I can't your whole journal now, but I did skim some highlights. I see you're another fan of organic soil, and you get some great results with it. Nice. I started making my own soil a few years ago for the food garden, and I never looked back.

The Satori sounds tasty, but I think I'll want a proper grow room for that. I'd actually like to get some more seeds, so having a male isn't a problem, but you know the complications involved. Growing, sexing, choosing the right phenos, managing the pollination. Growing a few fast-finishing, auto-fem seeds outside seems pretty simple. Growing the Satori properly will be a bit more work.

I'll definitely check out your journals in detail later. Much good info there that I want to absorb. Thanks!

Hey there SJ - you're on the right track. Growing MJ - same as outdoor food crops and for me is actually easier. My wife and the worms do all the heavy lifting around our home in the veggie gardens. All I do is sprinkle some of the goodness from the worm bin. I'm the worm bin organizer and general trouble maker.

No need to read my journal... hahaha just skip to the end and enjoy the pics, I do the same thing over and over and its no secret for veggie gardeners.

Thanks, SJ -- of course a fellow animal lover would spot that :) I snicker every time I put one of the girls in that chair because it is so INSANELY covered with cat hair :) We have a few moggies around and they all consider that chair to be one of the best seats in the house. We don't care, they're the heart of our family and we like them a lot more than we like most people, especially my husband who will ignore humans at a party if there's a cat around ...I washed my buds after my first grow partly because of the cat hair but I STILL find cat hair in my bud!

Yes, to a Carnival thread! Damn, that's a pretty plant. And I think you should let Sweet Seeds know about this journal -- it's growing into an important resource and inspiration, just as you wanted it to. All thanks to you and your positive, loving personality :)

And now here is my attempt at autos

Quick history, started 2 Dark Devil and 2 Supersonic Cristal Storm, got my cups mixed up as I was puting them in soil so Has no idea what was what. All 4 broke soil but one died and have no idea what strain so I germinated 2 more DD and one has come up, with any luck I have 4 DD but will be happy either way.

9 Days for 3 of them and 2 days for the runt

This girl is a strange one, her leaves were straight north since birth but now has started to relax a bit but it looks like she was topped as I don't really see anything else sprouting on her, thoughts?

We don't care, they're the heart of our family...

(Third or fourth time I've tried to reply. Kept getting a "token expired" error on this thread.)

Totally agree about pets being the heart of the family. I can't imagine life without some critters around.

One of the cats around here isn't too friendly, and it's taking me a long time to make friends with him. He'll be rubbing against me and purring one minute, and the next I'm putting ointment on my claw wounds. He's called Smoky, but I think I'll rename him Dark Devil.

Notice how smoothly I got back on the main topic? :)

Good morning everyone. (It's still morning here in Phoenix) Thank you all for the sweet compliments. Can anyone share with me how one would get in touch with Sweet Seeds? I went to their site and couldn't find any contact information. It's so rewarding to stop here and see everyone having such a good time.

Growchick, when I get home I'll be planting a Carnival ASAP and starting that thread. If anyone wants to beat me to that I won't have any problems with that. One way or another there's another community grow in our future. I'm still waiting for someone to start one for the blue strains.

Smokey Joe, it thrills me to have a member with such highly developed documentation skills preparing to start a grow. :slide: Just a thought about the mystery topping - cats have been known to eat the tops. :battingeyelashes:

...a member with such highly developed documentation skills...

Hey, I didn't say I was a good writer.

But it should be an interesting project, since I'm thinking about a rolling outdoors grow with just one or two seeds planted every couple of weeks, starting as early as the beginning of March. Lots of things to think about like site location and deer deterrence. Even microclimate issues. Last frost around here can vary by 4 to 6 weeks within just a few miles. Soil pH can vary a lot too.

It's becoming like a science project. I expect to see certain things, like higher yields on the last planting but fewer insect problems on the early ones, but I won't know until I actually do it. It might not work at all, but I think it's worth risking a few seeds to run the experiment. If an early outdoor grow with autoflowering seeds works in this area, that would be good for some of the local folks to know.

Still looking for a stealthy indoor solution, though. I don't think you can beat a controlled environment.

If you haven't done so already check out Conradino's grow journals. He does those wonderful outdoor grows in Italy every year.
