Dark Devil Auto: A Community Grow Record

Has anyone grown both Dark Devil Auto and SSDC (Sweet & Sour Devil's Crack, I think?) together? I'm wondering if anyone can compare and contrast the two (both the growing and the bud/effects).

Dark Devil???

I have, Sue is now and think beez is also

Actually think most are now

Sue had told me this was her first run in Hempy with DDA. Now that I am almost ready to soak a couple seeds, I wanted to satiate my paranoia just a bit more.

I've never done the auto thing, but was gifted 10 DDA seeds that I don't want to mess up, because I want to do them justice. It was a gracious gift.

Do you know of anyone running maxibloom as a stand alone? I see it in older threads/forums, but not much recently. It works great on my sativas in Hempy, but they have a long grow cycle to heal from my careless mistakes.

If you don't want to mess up those DDA seeds my suggestion would be to germinate them in a hempy solo cup. I tried germinating them in paper towels and got only one of five to germinate successfully. In the hempy solo cups I am 4 for 4 success rate.

Thank you

That is good to information to know. I usually soak my seeds until they sink or 24 hours and plant directly in the final container. I generally have great luck with this method If I have to transplant I like to cut the bottom out of the small container and stuff it right into the larger pot.
My final container for this exercise will be a 1 gallon square ice cream pail... I am going to stick with my maxibloom and step them up even slower than I do my sativas. I have one more plant to flush and chop (1 week max) and I will get my journal going.
Peace

Put them in the gallon to start with, "auto's" flower when the tap root hits the bottom of the container,:Namaste:

I started mine multiple ways

In Hempy I did the soak/ paper towels then into a Hempy solo for like two weeks, then into 1.5 gal Hempy
Either way I made a 1/4 strength nutes and would water the seedling every day to help speed up the grow and get the roots into the resivour , it seemed to help quite a bit

Or he could grow a few at a time.

Only reason I (mostly) stopped using the paper towel method of germination was that I had some concern that the tiny, vulnerable emerging root tip might start growing into - or at least adhering - to the fibers(?) that make up the paper towel. Probably not a real big concern unless the grower leaves seeds in there too long, since the method obviously works, but...

My #1 DDA is coming along nicely I think. Today is inspection day and although she is growing nicely I couldn't help but notice what I believe to be deficiency spotting on just 3 leaves, all near or at the bottom of the plant. Basically the oldest leaves on her. What do ya'll think?

Cal Mag deficiency?

A picture of my DDA's frosty lower bud. Mine is green.

You have a way to go Jax. She may change color before the end. My first didn’t change until two weeks before harvest and she was a super potent baby.

Thank you

beez and I are using the same technique Chris describes - soak the perlite in 1/4 strength nutrients, drain, plant (beez and I use a humidity dome on our solo cups), and wait for them to come up.

So far both beez and I are seeing them pop within two days. I don’t even soak the seed anymore. Once it’s in the perlite it’s saturated.

That sir, is one fine girl. :high-five: She must smell intoxicating. Lol! When mine are that far along I look for reasons to be close. :battingeyelashes:

Cal Mag deficiency?

I don’t think we covered this in our conversations. We use 2 tsp of Cal/Mg per gallon of water used with hempy. I’d bet my life you’re using less than that.

Increase to 2 tsp/gallon and the problem stops right there.

Also, beez, are you adjusting pH to 5.5? This is the perlite hempy sweet-spot. I didn’t mention it because I use nutrients that don’t require pH adjusting. Sorry.

I mix my nutrients in a 1/2 gallon milk bottle. I add Cal-Mag to every feeding at a rate of 4ml per 1/2 gallon. So just under 1ml less then you're using. I can certainly bump it up a bit. I had read the PH should be about 5.8 so I've been a little under and a little over on the PH.

Jesus! That's a tough act to follow. With my head hung low here is my update from today on my Dark Devil autos. The two inside are growing in hempy. Today I fed them and discovered roots behind the tape when I removed it for their feeding. So I know for sure the roots have reached the reservoir and should begin growing with more vigor from here on.

This plant I topped at day 17 or 18 I can't remember. It started to have a problem with some leaf spotting (cal-mag deficiency) but has been remedied by upping the cal-mag by a very small amount.

I wanted to see how the Dark Devil auto responded to fimming VS. topping so that's what I did with this girl. She was fimmed on I believe day 17. She did not love the fimming and showed it by going dormant for 2 days. She has since started growing again and if she decides to go vertical she might be the better of the two plants.

I have a third Dark Devil growing outside. Sadly she was put out there too early in the season and didn't do much. She is flowering but there's not much of her.
