I do wonder... If the original seeds were produced by the same method (in general), then that'd be TWO generations produced by selfing. How much "less" will those offspring be than the hypothetical parent of their parent?
I don't usually think about this. Most strains being crosses of some sort or another, my default assumption is that the seeds that come from seedbanks are produced with two parental plants, even if they were both female (requiring a reversal).
BUT... That presupposes that the breeder isn't taking a cutting off of a mother (that
was an actual cross of two parental plants), rooting it, and then spraying a portion and allowing it to "go <BLEEP> itself." And that might actually be happening, now that I think about it. Actually, multiple clones would be more likely, methinks. Still, if they're all clones of
one parent - and it is
the same parent - then the same thing would seem to apply.
Always best to cross unrelated plants when creating seeds. Just like with people
. First cousins secretly(?) breed, have a child... It probably fits within the norm. If
that person then breeds with a first cousin, well... Schizophrenics, serial killers, bearded women, and generally creepy individuals have to come from somewhere. Look at European royal families throughout the last couple millennia.
