Curso's True High Brix!

If you really want to be tricky...On thicker leafed greens, if rinsed in steamy water then an ice bath, the color becomes much more vibrant and richer. I've done this to Kale for years, I did it to that Skunk47 with the wash. The under purple is a really royal purple now and a much richer green.

Indeed it is. I use to wash with a lemon based mix but it was imperfect and tended to leave a residue that would snap crackle and pop occasionally. I tried docs mix lascrop and can honestly say ill never skip that step again.

Yep. Washing produce......everyone in the world does it except weed growers. Until now! And my goodness, what an incredible difference. I'll never skip a good wash either.

RE: lemon juice.

There are two schools of thought (in my mind) on this.

1.)"Real Lemon" brand of lemon juice contains sulfites. These sulfites will actually kill mold, PM and other nasties.....and basically preserve your buds. Obviously, it's perfectly safe to ingest.

2.)Some people have severe allergies to sulfites. These are the folks who break out in hives after drinking red wine and the like. Lemon juice without sulfites would work....but citric acid is much less expensive!.

The best way to use Citric Acid is to mix up a batch with lemon juice and baking soda.....test and record PH.
Next mix up the water and baking soda for the "new batch," and add citric acid while stirring in order to reach the same pH. I need half as much citric acid as lemon juice to arrive at this.

However, pure lemon juice works better. Find it at a healthfood store.

you wash your nugs because you foilage feed right? I dont foilage feed so should I still wash my nugs? Looking great Curso, nice and frosty brotha! +reps

You may have noticed that resin is sticky.

You may have also noticed that bugs fly around the room occasionally, as well as dirt, dried organic matter, spores, human hair, dead skin cells and who knows what else.

Wash them and thank me later. I started the process and so far everyone who's had the good sense to try it is very happy and will never go back.

But don't do it unless you want improved flavor.

ok...I dont see how lemon juice or anything else will remove any of the things you mentioned from sticky resin glands except the hair but i will try it on a few oz and if I notice a difference I will definetly thank you. Have you checked the trychs before and after washing? does the lemon juice or Citric acid have any affects on them? does the baking soda leave any residue? Sorry for all the questions Ive just never heard of this before.

ok so i gotta know where the descrip of this wash tech is, i have the sns veggie was ive never tried ,funny how we have not made this a normal practice, when i saw this i did the "i coulda had a v8" head smack, like duh! wtf are we thinking? lol

It does make sense...Like Doc and Curso said, pretty much any other plant we consume gets washed so why not weed too. Im just curious to see if the trychs get damaged in the process.

Thanks for the reps bro :)
I didn't notice anything being damaged from washing my plants, and my 2nd rinse was fairly hot water followed by really cold water. The blueberry gum now that it has a cure on it, has a beautiful blueberry scent and an awesome bubble gum flavor :)

The citric acid in the lemon juice does no harm, in fact, I have used basically the same wash in salad mixes to keep them from oxidizing from being cut with a knife. You could also use a really, really, really weak bleach water mixture. I have used this on herbs to "sanitize" the leaves for storage. As long as no one touches the herb with bare hands it lasts for months. There is bacteria on our hands that is bad for leaves, and killing everything off it with the really weak bleach or lemon juice preserves your product, by killing all the bad shit off the leaves.

We're not thinking. We're copying what other people do without having the education or knowledge necessary to "think straight."

Most of what we do as growers is dictated by the different aspects of prohibition. Very little of what we do is based purely on growing the best quality possible.

The SNS wash is very similar to my wash....they use citric acid and baking soda, while I prefer lemon juice. Theirs is about 40x more expensive than mine.

Some basic chemistry and physiology for ya:

1.) Lemon juice and baking soda are used in combination. Not just one of the other.
2.) This mixture attacks dirt, grease, grime, etc.
3.) we're washing the buds in 2 separate containers of RO immediately after their bath in the LJ/BS bucket.

Trichomes are not at all damaged by water. It rains, afterall. Bubble hash is another example. Water doesn't harm trichomes....not even a little.

Does it wash them off the plant? Probably. But it also washes a bunch of other stuff off too.....stuff that tastes bad, stuff that you don't want to inhale or eat.

Here's what one of my washed buds looks like. Picture taken by shottafire:

There are still some trich's left after being washed.

no worries bro, I was just curious if the lemon juice had an affect on the trychs, like colapsing some of them or something, im a carpenter not a botanist lol...like Doc said, most of us do what other growers have done successfully in the past, this "washing" is new to me so I was curious if anybody had checked the trychs under a scope before and after a wash.I ll try it myself in about 10 days:)

Improved flavor? I knew there was a catch. Fk that ;)
Thanks for saying it canna... I was thinking the same thing...lol

I'm pretty stoked to have gotten the new drench today. It just so happens that I have 2 Sour Diesel #2 that are going into week four, so they'll be getting it next time I feed them. Those plants produce some ridiculous tric's. My buddy is growing it in his hydro set up and the trics on the Sour Diesel #2 blow the both of us away, when either of us harvest it. It'll be very interesting to see the GSC's all prettied up from it as well. I rubbed my fingers on the stem of a flowering GSC today, they smelled of mint....Good stuff!!!

2 questions about the washing;

how mych time does it add to the hanging drying? and over all drying in general?

And if you heavy foilar sprayed with the lemon baking soda mixture a few times a few days before harvest followed by a few heavy foliars with plain water, would that have the same rinse effect?

I haven't noticed any extra drying time, to be honest. I haven't sprayed with the soda/lemon juice this time around, but I think the soak and agitate helps knock off any thing that's way up in there, in places a sprayer couldn't reach. I just hold the branch over my "stage" and let it run until it drips, and hang them over a towel to catch any access water.

The Chem Valley Kush is going to come down today or at least the 4 main cola's are. They're just to close to the light and starting to show some signs of burning, they probably could have handled the 400w that close but as it is I don't want to fry them. I'll probably just pull them, its hash day and the cvk trim would be nice. I'll take some pics ;)

YaY!!!!!! This Chem Valley Kush just ended up being awesome!!!! Beautiful bud's, great lemon pledge stench, dense and frosty. What more could I ask for. Aside from another couple of those plants, but that isn't going to happen so...I am more than happy with what I have :)

This is the conclusion of my first run soil. Following the instructions gives some fantastic results, although I did use bloomit early in bloom. Not a single bug on either grows. Honestly I really couldn't be happier with the results I have had, this round in particular. I know I might have said this a million times but...The ease of growing with the kit is amazing, water, feed, spray how much easier can it be, given that you have a good environment.

All 4 strains I've grown in the kit I have grown in other soil, they haven't even been close to half as good as they are right now in jars (CVK aside but look at it...LOL, Skunk47 still needs a good cure but just dry I'm baked).
