Cottage 420's Organic Perpetual Indoor Garden

Our cottage is about 3 hrs north east of GTA... @ Belleville take hwy 62N and go about 60km past Madoc - about 1/2 way between Madoc and Bancroft ... heart of cottage country. Yeah buddy, this past September we were swimming all times of the day and even after dark. Water was like 80F perfect for late night/early morning skinny dip.

Hot tub .... on my list. Thinking hillbilly hot tub. Go to the farm supply store and get a galvanized water bin for cattle. the one that is sloped on each end. fill and warm with a water heater.... take a bath on the dock and hang out! Boom, sauna.

We are already talking up our summer stay. It will likely bring on the end of this perpetual run here on 420Mag, as we will likely be staying longer than usual. I'm pretty creative and know how to get a grow going without people ... We've done in several summers in a row now. This time I think we will be looking for a new home farther north and closer to our cottage and REAL snow. Never know.. I don't know what it's like not to have a garden going. Nature calls and I hear the whistles blowing and the loons calling my name. Maybe next garden will be in Canada outdoors this summer.
Love the visual bob. I grew up with a cottage in Irondale, just west of Gooderham. We used to go to Bills Hills in the 80s in Wilberforce to watch the hillclimbs. I loved my summers north with my parents. That cottage is gone now, luckily my brother couldn't get enough and now he's waterfront in Haliburton. Look me up on your way up this summer, love to tie into one and show you a few good bass holes! Plus.....now it's way more fun with all the toys.

My kelp must have rotted once activated by water. I just remixed and can totally picture the kelp it once was. Thanks to your description, I now know how yours smells lol.

Whats going on with the kelp meal is it is composting. The smell will go away pretty quick. The smell is a sign your soil is alive. Once the smell goes away you will be good. Some greens are actually what we call green manures - Comfrey, kelp, nettles ... to name a few. They will smell very similar to brown manure during the composting process, but they break down a lot faster than brown manures.

It wont stink too long. Just leave the lid on for 4-5 days make sure there's adequate ventilation. Prop the lid open an inch or so, probably too wet in the container. Stir it up a little and prop lid open, with the bokashi you shouldn't have a smell. It's not mold that is hyphae and bacteria working. Mold is completely different and not good.

Take a picture and post it. Mold will turn dark grey ...

I usually compost my soils outdoors then bring them in after the breakdown is done. I never smell anything... kelp will smell a little but it should smell like the ocean or the beach more than manure.

Depending on what you are doing mixing soil there should be no smell or smell like soil.. it it smells like shit its probably too wet prop the lid open and give it a stir.

Vermicomposting with worms you will need a fair amount of ventilation. Still very little to no smell.

Smells sometimes come from anaerobic bacteria - this is not good for soils or plants.

Yeah I'm still in catch-up. Chopped DT #6 today and up-potted a Chem mother plant I had that was in fad in VEG. Hopefully she will come back around or I will loose that genetic. I did take a few cuts and I'm certain she will bounce back and thrive. The cuts are a pain in the ass to get going, taking a month to grow roots etc.

I took pics today .. more to come.

Will weigh up DT #7 and post pics tomorrow.

Puffing on a test bud of I think its Ghost Train Haze that I left out in a dish to dry. Shit is straight up total frost nugget - turned silvery green and tastes like mint with chocolate under tones and then mouth coated with a lemon pledge flavor. Very chemy after taste. Interesting... nothing like the first test buds I was puffing on a few weeks ago.

I've been a little stressed today with a bunch of work I'm doing in the garden, so sitting down and taking a puff or 3, I'm feeling much better.

Wife and I are sipping a glass of red wine and I'm thinking the tastes are 180 degrees apart. Must try white wine next time. Wait, puff some more, I'm feeling a flavor meld event coming on..... I can feel it... chem taste & now mouth numb. GTH = not too bad... eyes are probably red white and blue slits right now.

GTH = Good... very good. Strain saving good..... didn't take cuts (thinking of Woody) . I have a handful of seeds tho!

I high A/F :smokin:

Thank you Bob! Smells died down a ton since lifting the lid last night...it was that fermentation smell bokashi has just amplified a lot

Here's what it's looking like this morning

Bit moist in there so got the lid propped open still .

Congrats on another harvest bob. Looking good. Just opposite here w/ rH.....tropical moisture all month (same that caused SoCal mudslides) 60's rH in dry area so usual 3-5 day hang went 8-12. Actually nice result...not something I can count on very often out here though. :Namaste:

That's the way it usually is here. RH up to waazoo... I have to be careful much of the time so that I don't chop and the RH is in the 80% range. It can get into the 90% range here and hotter than Florida in the summer time. I have to run fans on the hanging plants. Last summer I just splurged and put AC on the first floor so hung there in normal temps and humidity.

Yeah so still in harvest mode then soon after trim mode.

Yet to chop:
Labyrinth #1 and #3
Dolato #1 - fast finish maybe 50 days. This is what the malted barley does, she was likely ready for chop in 45 days. I let her go some more to see if I could fatten up the nugs. She's not really changed much, just getting ripe. Lab #1 is off the charts... her calyx are fattening up more every day. Its getting crazy. I expected her to quit on me, but she's been soldiering on like a trooper. Pretty amazing really.

I just took a test nug... about to try it out of the Dolato #1 - She's done. Got about I'd say 10% amber and all cloudy trichomes on a lower to mid small bud. So I have 3 more plants to harvest from this last round. Already got the next round going.

Next round so far just flipped:

Dolato #2
Buffalato #1
PMB #2 - was flowering in 18/6 just like an AUTO strain. Very weird but she's going to go purple flowers and is a small plant like the AUTOs are.
Chemdawg - clone - I think this is my last one from the purps plant. I mis-labeled a whole clone batch. I wasn't sure about what this plant was, then she started turning purple in veg... was completely root bound. It will take her a few days to iron out from that I'm sure.

PMB #1 is flowering and way too tall and lanky - she's going to maybe be finished before I finish chopping the fall/winter run. She smells like grape juice too.

OK so sum pics cause I got'em... in a few days won't be many pretty flowers for a little bit.

Family Pics:

DT #6 - she's on the hook and PMB is looming lankily over head!

Right side - Labyrinth #1 and #3 behind her - Dolato #2 the green plant with Dolato #1 in back left side - she will be gone by next update.

Some pretty flowers in no particular order:

Labyrinth #1 - side cola:

Lab #1 another side cola

Lab #1 - trying to get the size of the Calyx here...

DSC_0024_2_5.JPG

Lab #1 - side cola - this one looks pretty good. Took some Lab #2 test nugs over to a friends house today. His girl pulls out a nice 5g nug... "Oh wow... that's looks like silver" I was thinking it looks like Au. Trichomes FTW! and lemon.

DSC_0023_2_8.JPG

Trichome shot - looks pretty tasty... maybe that's my drool on there!

DSC_0017_2_9.JPG

Dolato #1 - of course side nug shot.. this is pretty good puffage. Relaxing yet upbeat but turns my eyes into slits and munchies. I had to go out and get 3 more bags of chips, chocolate & nuts today.

Dolato #1 - Close up of ^^^ Pretty Trichomes

DSC_0012_3_2.JPG

Same bud as above - messing with color setting on my camera. Can see more frost here.

DSC_0013_2_8.JPG

Same pic ^^^ closer upper. Rails on the btm of the leaves is always a good sign... I'm thinking! that's pretty crazy!

DSC_0013_3_1.JPG

Labyrinth #1 - one of the main buds - strung up or cave on me! Looks mighty fine. That could be a 20g bud I'm thinking.

DSC_0008_2_14.JPG

Close up pic of above shot ^^^ capturing the trichomes...

DSC_0008_3_1.JPG

Lab #1 - buds that are under the 1750K Cobs - they are all this color. The red in the lamps helps bring out more red color in the leaves. The buds on the other side of the plant are all light green

DSC_0005_2_9.JPG

Same plant on the back side away from the 1750K lamps. So I'm thinking these lamps also have some effect on the color of the trichomes as well. The stems turn red and the leaves turn red.. I've noticed many more amber trichomes on the side facing the 1750K lamps.
I have no conclusion - just questions and observations.

Amazing harvest bob! 8 zips off any plant is great! Can't wait to see the final bud pics!

Was a guess... the last one was 10zips this was a clone of her. I have 3 full large containers. I will do a weigh in tomorrow and do a tally.

Congrats on the harvest Bob, well done brother! And congrats on the seeds as well!

Thanks bud.. working hard here for a few daze... then off to Lazy Train. Time to get popp'in!

Great harvest Bob. That's a lot of work trimming and such and moving soil too. The smoke report on Labyrinth sounds interesting with the lemon. Glad it helped with the mood funk.

Thanks Jim.. labyrinth is great smoke.. juicy lemon with a little funk I would call it. Makes my mouth water talking about it!

thanks bud... welcome aboard to the train to the outer reaches of our universe, as we know it ... Jim! I'm high again! :high-five:

Congrats on all your hard work paying off Bob. Glad to hear you have a favorable impression of the GTH. I just got a 12 pack of regulars this week. Looking more forward to trying them after reading this.

Hey Bob congrats on the big yields! How much did you pull off that DT #7?

Sorry haven't been keeping up, been pretty busy lately. Was wondering if you could check out my journal, having a little trouble still, not really sure what's going on... Looks like Magnesium/Zinc and Calcium problems showing up.

Panama x Malawi - Probiotic & Organic Indoor Soil Grow

My gut instinct tells me that my pots are staying too wet from the frequent spinosad spraying and because they were pretty recently transplanted so their roots haven't quite filled in yet. I'm worried it's because my soil is so rich though.

Hey Bob, I was reading your IPM and was wondering what the "Full Power" is and the "Pro text"?? Im Guessing The Fertilizer conquered his Russet problem with the Captain Jacks?? Also his pic of a thirp, they look like Russets just with more legs. I thought a thirp was like a fly of moth, airborne?? Maybe his Thirp pic is of a larve and not an adult?? Thanks Bob.

Yeah buddy - I like it very much and my friends are asking for more. My friends that are used to puffing my weeds too so it can't be too bad. It's got everything really. Great taste and smell, gets me felling mighty fine and not edgy like some Sativa can, and just drops me off gently leaving me wanting to take another trip on the Ghost Train... yeah it's good.

Doesn't have that big bag appeal but once you try it, you won't care.

Chopped my Lab #1 today. Wow she was bulked up and sticky A/F. Hung her on the hook to take off most of the fans and had to go fetch a bottle of Iso Alkey-haul and had to keep wiping down my hands and trimmers. Drying room smells like Lemon funk. I got pretty high just breathing in the terpines while trimming off the fans.

To dry plants I just cut em down with loppers, hang em on a hook it the kitchen doorway and trim off most all the fan leaves so the flowers dry a little faster. I don't have ac or any fancy drying box... I'd need a 4x4 tent for that .. OH, that's a great idea I'll need another fan .. have a filter already.

Anyway - so I just hang the plants upside down the whole thing if I can. The plants are still alive... even tho we cut them down they are not dead. Otherwise clones wouldn't be a thing... food for thought.

So I like to let the just hang upside down and let the plant figure out whats going on. All good. We humans have been working with this plant for several thousand years. Much like Bison, they know whats coming and why I don't fvck with my plants much at all. Messing and touching is stressful for them and the plants have pheromones they release when they are being messed with and all the other plants close by pick up on them and make appropriate corrections (make themselves taste bad). More food for thought. Why you sometimes or oft-times see only 1 plant having and infestation while all the other plants are OK. Evasive action based on neighboring plant pheromones. I want my plants focused on flower production not evasive actions, and specially not to me.

Not BS....

Here's my little PMB #2 that went into flower like an AUTO.. she's going to go purple. Little tiny thing .... for now!

DSC_0038_2_4.JPG

Next up for chop is Lab #3 and Dolato #1 - she has been in the corner all by herself, I've not even got to get a close look until today. ooohhh la la.. some frosty girl! Yay.

Gettin kinda caught up... 1 round finishing and another getting going. Still a lot of work yet to do. Thankfully I don't have to mix soils!! Woohooo.

Hey Fert - I'll go check out your journal - did a quick drive by and just take her easy.. water for the win for a few more days. EWC/kelp meal is your friend.

I get plants that look a lot worse in VEG and I don't care ... Spinosad will have no effect on the plant/leaf growth. Add in some Kelp tea to you spray... you are spraying the leaves with the spinosad right?

I'll do another pass thru tomorrow... been puffing some Dolato freshies that taste like paint thinner and lemons.... hahahaha geeze...

Try this out: It has a nice paint thinner inhale, followed by a beautiful lemon pledge after taste and a mouth coating of some kinda funky soil sludge. :smokin::thedoubletake:

OYE.. still good & still puffing.

Freshies are whats for my brain!

Love tht lil pmb u got there and what is ur veg light schedule wonder y she started flowering like an auto?? But either way I'm sure u will turn her into sumthn magnificent like always lol.

Hey I had a quick question bout the kelp tea can i store some of that in a glass Mason jar in my fridge for like a week to ten days or so??

Which pic was that? I'm not really sure, I thought I had thrips and then when I sprayed they were gone just like that. I think I had russets once before though so it could have been a pic of a russet mite.
