Cottage 420's Organic Perpetual Indoor Garden

That....^^^ ain't worth it...

Chop down a big canna tree and hold it up like the fresh kill that it is....

We can get grass fed Filet Mignon for $6/lb here.... I have to cut it down but hey... dog happy me happy.

I was researching The Devils Tit.... since it really does look like a Sativa. Conrad made me do some thinking. I found a bunch of info on the Durban strains and other Africa Sativas... they look a lot like the DT Iv'e been growing. So I picked a Durban leaner from the first round I ran. It looks almost exactly like some of the old Durban and other African sativas that Sam the Skunkman was running back in the day.

I thought I posted an update but....?? Ah well.

Here's some trichome shots from the other day:

This a from a branch that was bent so I decided to do some test buddage and take some close up pics.
In this pic I'm looking at the waxy leaf and signs of PM/mold.... looks good.... we can see the 2 types of trichomes there pretty clearly with no sign of PM. Which is kind of amazing given the weather conditions.... last 10 days its been in the 80% RH at night and the rains are here. We have the AC on even tho its in the low 60s high 50s F outside.

Anyone still growing outdoors here, just got their crop toasted, high 50s 100% humidity and driving rains.... just like the PacNW. Its gonna take a week for anything to dry out. Outdoor gardens are done ..... was 85F yesterday.

DT #2 - top down look at some side nugs. She's going to be the first on the chopping block. She's already dropped all of her early large fan leaves and pistols are turning color...

DT #1 again

DT #2 - going yellow and a little red - side buds... reason for all the rope - trying to keep the top colas out away from the lights so they don't get burned. To tall to get main cola pics. Nice curly tips here... that's genetics.

Dam bb that dt looks delicious i hope my black domina turns out nice like that but yea man ur garden is lookn great as always knocking it out the park

Jim go out there at night with a flashlight and catch all the nightcrawlers you want for fish bait too... Along with their crap.. JK but I use to enjoy catching worms at night after a rain. You be supprised how many you can catch. As a kid we even had one of them worm callers'. Call hell...... it ran a electric current in the ground bringing them up. Then place them in a contained area in your yard and feed with oatmeal and coffee grounds and they will stay where you grow them.. As long as it's good soil, moist soil, they stay right there, and you can harvest whenever you want your EWCs..

Keepem Green

All the DTs are looking good Bo. Was wandering around in the front yard this morning. It seems the earth worms came out to poop. This is what earth worm castings look like here. Just little piles but it wouldn't take too long to gather a half a gallon or so.

DSC_08478.JPG

Yes indeedee... those plants there are Lesser Celandine. We have them in the spring when no leaves on the trees yet and they flower until leaves on trees then they die back and the worms take over! If you came out at night, those crawlers are eating those leaves, they actually harvest them and take the leaves down into the hole and eat them. Living compost.. best of the best.

Good shit right there bro!!! Thank you very much, your pics reminds me of spring here in the north east.

Yes take a scoop and scoop that up and into the pots or do a tea.. or both... girls go wild with that shit!!!

That there is black gold...

That is from euro crawlers .. the big long ones that make that shit. Ooooh la la.. you just made my day! :Namaste:

Here's a little info bomb on HorseTail Fern and what it brings to the table:

Horsetail Fern "Equisetum hyemale"

Horsetail Ferns contains Silica at 60,000 - 97,000 ppm

Here's a few other benefits from this plant material:

Silicic Acid - 80,000 ppm (rooting agent)
Phosphorus - 14,762 ppm
Calcium - 24,000
Magnesium - 4,730 PPM

NOTE: ratio of Calcium:Magnesium (a little higher than 5:1)

The biggest benefit = Carbohydrates - 737,000 ppm

Ever since I've been incorporating Horsetail Fern tea into my soil regime and IPM routine... NO PM/Mold and plants even clones of the same plants are much larger and yields have gone up since my plans are larger. Also pests and incidence of infestations of mites has gone down quite a bit as well. Still get mites from time to time but they never really get a very good grip and are mainly isolated to a few branches, then I wipe them out with Spinosad and neem.

Silica from Horsetail Ferns and Pro-Tekt are taken up by the plant and the plant actually builds a layer of Si in the plants protective layer (cuticle) that is the waxy layer on the leafs epidermis (skin).

Quoted from a study on the effects of Silicon and plants:

Link:
Probing the mechanisms of silicon-mediated pathogen resistance

"the enhanced resistance is associated with the higher deposit of silicon in leaf so as to form physical barrier to impede pathogen penetration and the activation of host defense response.

Since Si was found to control plant disease, physical barrier was traditionally used to explain its role in enhancing pathogen resistance. Si can accumulate and deposit beneath the cuticle to form a cuticle-Si double layer and thereby interfere with pathogen's penetration through mechanical barrier."

And there's more .... in that article linked above.

Where do you generally get your horsetail ferns bob??

Where do you generally get your horsetail ferns bob??

Hehe... good question - in the woods around the corner from where we get the worm castings in bulk! :smokin:

I'm serious too... literally like 100 meters away from my fav castings in bulk there's a little water retention pond that in wet weather will flood to maybe 6-12" of water and remain wet.. the Horsetail Ferns (Equisetum arvense - typo above) - like wet areas. This area where we get it fresh, its there from early spring to late late fall and then we can harvest the stalks after the first hard frost. There's soo much of it, we can gather a years supply in about 10 minutes.

This plant is unique for sure ... instead of reproducing like other green plants, it actually releases spores much like a mushroom does.

Here's the wiki on it:

Equisetum arvense - Wikipedia

The E. arvense is native to much of North America, it's actually listed as an invasive species!! Which to my experience it is not invasive for sure and is quickly overgrown by grasses and other weeds as spring progresses.

It likes to grow around Stinging Nettle too .. another great source of Si (and other macro and micro nutrients). So yeah double the pleasure, nettles and horsetail.. bring along 2 bags, and a bucket for the castings. Nature is full of wonderful exciting goodness.

Tho sometimes I find myself looking down at the ground while hiking in the woods and miss out on the big picture like birds and deer... I'm a soil guy so I'm always in awe at watching dirt in the forest! I know it sounds crazy... but hey, aren't we all crazy in our own way!

Express yourself...

We look to the soil,
We look to the sun.

We grow a beautiful flower
To share with everyone.

Time to puff, it's another beautiful day!

DT #1 - lower down nug... (OMG.. can't even see the main top its too far away)

DSC_0045_3_1.JPG

This is a far out shot - DT #1 is in the back and front left corner all that gold - tops go up past the lamps. She takes up the whole back row in the pic - I have her spread out & tied down... yeah and she's doin her thing. Test nugs are crazy strong. We are at 11 weeks here. About to finish and chop. Weather is right ... finally.

As always.. more to come - cheers!

Looks like you're dialing in that new camera....gorgeous "fall" pics, beautiful colors & buds. Look potent as hell. :Namaste:

Hey there BL thanks for noticing.. "Dialing" is the perfect word for sure... there's a lot of options and there's a dial to page thru all the jazz.

The DT is beyond my comfort level... the test buds I tried last night, took 2 puffs and my body was filled with an electric buzz, after 3-4 more puffs my hearing started to change... that was weird.... kinda put my head in a towel feeling and sounds were fading in and out. I just had to puff my way thru it and soldier on! hahahahaha

Not really used to that straight up Durban/Acapulco gold sativa buzz but man it sure is good. Was sort a funky flavor on a few buds... not sure maybe I need to bud wash these as I did use neem oil about 6 weeks ago for mites. Most of it tastes like a lemmony funk and very very smooth even for freshies..

I'm actually looking forward to some change .... cant wait for the Chem-dawg, I'm smoked my last buds the other day. I like the uplift get me really high, followed by a nice relaxing landing... The DT is more abrupt.. more like a rocket ship launch and a circle around the universe... I've finally gotten used to it and am starting to remember going to bed!

I must have picked the right pheno.. sometimes I get lucky I guess. With this mostly straight up equatorial sativa... they can go a good long while. I was chopping at 50-60 days in all my other runs. This run I took DT #2 @ 65 ish days and the other 2 are at 11 weeks today and they look like they can go longer. The flowers are getting fatter and the stems can hold them up which is amazing... those 2 plants are HUGE. I think I can untie them now and they will be fine. I really haven't seen any sign of them slowing down... I see where they get the name Acapulco Gold.

They go into what I thought was fade ... the old fans turn gold and the new growth leaves are green, but instead of them finishing they keep putting on more frost and getting bigger fatter buds and a lot more new white pistols.

My inner me wants to harvest.. bush in hand as good as 2 bushes in the field deal. But the experienced grower in me wants to get greedy and see how much more yield we can get. I've been burned before, going to be burned again for sure.... walking the fine green line.

The good news is the weather is finally a lot less humid and more fall like. So all we have to do is close windows and keep temps average at night not cold (and not humid)...

I'm going to take some more test buds tomorrow and loop the trichomes and see where we are at.

I just put another Chem-dawg into flower yesterday, which included an up-pot into final container. She was root bound a little so we should see some fantastic growth as she's about 24" tall in VEG - a pretty big VEG plant.

What else... I've got another few DTs in VEG and they are taking off. They are ready to replace those big ladies in flower.

Took clones of the DTs I just put into flower and clones of the Chem-d girls... those Chem-d clones always take a bit of time to get going for some reason.

Seedlings are growing - 4 Dolato seedlings popped... one not sure about.

Seeds getting popped are 2 Square Dance... one broke thru and the other .... mia.

Popped a set of Purple Monkey Balls - disappointment all around, VERY slow starters ... thinking of culling the whole lot and starting something else.

Have in hand the new release of Buffalato... looking for a good reason to pop these and its not going to take too much time with the PMB and lack of vigor to help me change my directions.

Bob, what strain is DT? I know you stated somewhere, who knows how many pages back, but I gave up looking. Anyone else besides Bob know what strain DT is, please feel free to share!! Thanks.

Great post bob. Got me laughing good. Lots of new gear coming up there...good sh*t too. I can handle even the heavy ass cookie crosses but not so fond of the jittery, body tweaking edgy sativas anymore. But I'm a senior citizen...emphasis on senior. But still chuckle when some younger folks are over, & they can't keep up after a few bowls. :passitleft:

DT - Mendocino Durban Poison x Acapulco Gold x C99 (male)

Breeder (SnowHigh) description:

"A Durban Poison clone was picked up by growers in Mendocino by myself. The grower had traveled to South Africa in the early 80's and specifically brought back Durban Poison genetics for breeding. The clone of Durban Poison is extremely potent, heart racing rollercoaster weeds, too much will make you sweat. The Devil came to me while under her influence and whispered in my ear, this will be the Devils Tit.

The male used in the cross was a 11 foot heavily branched monster which has been proven in many other crosses as well as this one. "

So the pheno I picked from a 10 pack of regs was this one I've been growing out. It has the color of the Acapulco Gold with the high from the Durban and the size from the C99 male. These plants are huge.... DT#3 is 4' wide and at least 7' tall w/multiple tops - well above the lights and @ the ceiling, I know the tops are up there somewhere... just cant see em. I got 5 females from the 10 pack and picked the largest most vigorous one to clone, that was before flowering.

I picked the right clone. She's got it all in spades... but its equatorial sativa leaner so she can go a nice long while in flower. Prolly could go +100 days. That's not going to happen. I'm done with those long finishers... although the wait is worth it.

I'll give them another watering with Malted Barley, the hormones in the MB help plants finish a lot faster. Coots said 25% faster with "The One" - he's been growing the one for over 25 years so I believe it. The MB tea got that Chemdawg clone going pretty fast, she's @ 39 days in flower in those pics and she's already getting orange pistols... not enough frost yet... its coming.

I messed up and threw out the males from DT for the usual reasons. I'm going to reverse one of the clones and see what I can do about making some S1 seeds.
