Cottage 420's Organic Perpetual Indoor Garden

9 Vero 29s the way I run them would be 3 COBs / driver at 2100mA per driver each with a trimmer pot that will be 300w for 3 so 900 watts total. You could easily grow with 6 VERO 29s' in a 4x4 ... so DIY you could probably do it for $600 all said and done... I have my VEG room dialed in that way and I'm thinking of changing that setup and moving all the COBs into my flower room, even with the intensity turned down 1/2 way I think it was too much for VEG plants.

I got my last set of COBs after I had plants in flower and didn't want to mess with moving everything but that was last round. I had a little glitch with my surge suppressor the other day ... it tripped off for some reason. I think I found one of my AC plugs wasn't plugged in tight enough and caused an issue. At any rate I'm about to harvest and I will have more room to work with, that and I have at least 3 Chemdawg plants that are going to be into the ceiling so I have to do a work around which means moving lighting and it's a good time to make changes....

So in a 4x4 tent I would do 2 sets of 3 VERO 29 COB arrays and go linear...so I can adjust spacing as required... all my COBs are linear for that reason. So 2 sets of 3 with 2 2100mA drivers with adjustable voltage and pots to adjust. Linear means 3 sets of COBs on a straight rail not a bug square with 6 .... the linear setup works for me... I've got a short ceiling @ 7' and sometimes like this coming round I've got some monster plants. I need a lot of flexibility with the lighting placement - linear setup gets that for me a big square setup won't have as much flexibility. It seems I'm always adjusting lights both height and spacing so linear for me.

I can easily grow 2 plants with 3 VERO 29 COBs... so in a 4x4 I could grow 4 plants with 6 COBs...HTH

LEDs haven't got the support over here that they seem to have with many users across the pond and from what I've seen here. Is it all to do with power consumption and/or heat control and/or bud quality...or all of the above?! I can't fault them for the results you're getting mate, hats off to you sir :)

For me everything comes AFTER the soil/compost. I cant grow for shit if my soils ain't right! we grow 100% organic soil. Even our IPM is organic. Health first... fun & merriment a very close 2nd..

I've just changed my flower room to all COBs today. That was a lot of work. Also put another Chemdawg clone into flower at 27" ... she's going to be another big fat lady. Her twin sister is HUGE and just getting started. I've got some of her tied with string @ 6 days flower time already burnt a cola.

I got this under semi-control ... lamps almost stapled to the ceiling as of today and all COB flower room.

I just did a side by side with COBs vs LED ... the plants that were under the COBs are 2x the size and height... that's huge for me and yields.

Game changer.. electric and heat are down. Just need some clip fans on the passive heat sinks and a few fans on the plants... I'm digging my new setup.

Here's a peak... I was taking pics of plants about to harvest and lighting changes happened but didn't take pics of lighting setup yet.

Chemdawg the Big .. VERO 29 V7 COB there on the upper left ... I have 3 sets plus the Amare Cree COB there in the pic. i have another linear COB array.. it's set up over my AUTO table ... about to harvest! Berries ... berries ... berries FTW!

We've got some berry berry good weeds to harvest in a few daze! :goof:

Like I said it's hard to argue with the evidence!! Thank you for the reply, you cleared a lot up and started untold questions in my head that should hopefully lead to the production of more bud...which can't be a bad thing surely?!

Thank you for this. Rudolf Steiner interesting stories as well outside the garden I might look into some of his more down to earth books. He did a lot of work.

In equisetum the cosmic is present, so to speak, in very greatexcess, yet in such a way that it does not go upward and revealitself in the flower but betrays its presence in the growth ofthe lower parts.”
Rudolf Steiner – Agriculture, p. 38 (Adams translation)

Gonna spray next time when I get some veg plants going. Horsetail, hi can ya feel the heat? Can ya feel the humidity? Ok spores here comes the tea.

Rght on.... which reminds me... summer time is TOMORROW hear on the east cost.. temps @ 90F for the rest of the week. Time for a horsetail fern + IPM spray.

Hey KB ... I'm a big reader.... selective but always reading a book or 3. The Rudolf Steiner stuff is some crazy shit... amazing too, some good solid growing advice but hey... we can modernize a little.

They do some hokey-pokey and dance it all about when we probably can skip a few steps there! hahaha burying under a compost pile for six months in a Steer horn... and all that... I actually might try it! I'm certainly crazy enough and I have some compost piles.

On to some growing news:

Changed the lighting in our flower room to all COBs now. What made me realize the change and work is worth it. I have 4 Citrus Berry plants ... they are very similar or the same Phenos. Actually this is the closest to a stable strain I've grow from the Exotic Genetix tool box. Anyway, ran 2 under a VERO 29 V7 linear COB array, and 2 under a regular LARGE 5w CREE LED (600w) so same wattage. Results are the 2 Citrus Berry plants grown under the COB array are 2x the height and probably more that 2x the dry weight... I haven't harvested yet but getting REAL close. Pics are coming up. Looking at bud pics they all look the same except the size of the plants difference its not subtle.

So all COBs in flower as of yesterday. Another thing is I had 2 linear array COBs in VEG I moved into the FLOWER room. My clones all went crazy and now are monsters getting ready to go into flower.

The plants that I had from seedlings under the COBs in VEG are all turning male. I think the light was too intense in VEG. Didn't realize that until 3 males in flower... had to cull, then one seedling plant turned male in VEG... I have another male plant in FLOWER now... showed his balls this morning. So out of 9 seedlings, 4 so far were male.

Maybe just unlucky.. but I've never had that bad of luck with males. I'm thinking the COBs @ 3K even turned down were too intense for seedlings, but for clones.... wow... the clone plants look like they would be 14' tall outdoors easily trees. They are turning into trees inside in flower already have 1 plant tied down with burnt tips and another just put into FLOWER yesterday she's going to be huge too. I have 3 or 4 more clones in VEG that are just as big now.

The thing that made me want to move the COBs from VEG into flower besides the male issues, is the weather coming this week. Tomorrow and for the rest of the week we are looking at a heat wave of sorts. Going to be 90F for the rest of the week. The COB arrarys are running fairly cool even with passive heat sinks and no fans. The power supplies are warm to the touch as are the heat sinks, with all lamps turned up to max output.

Ordered a few more clip fans to point at the top of the COB arrays .. with the rest of the fans we should be good.

Ok so here's my post to they "Eye Candy" thread last night.. pics of the Citrus Berry ready to harvest:

Citrus Berry # 4 organic soil - double tops, and a broken one... @ 50 days in flower

Citrus Berry # 2 organic soil @ 55 days in flower...

DSCN22726.JPG

Citrus Berry # 2 again... I could probably chop em all and feel good about it. I like to ride that terpine wave and see what comes out on the other side. These girls are getting some stink on ... I have males in the house and they know it. :Namaste:

DSCN22716.JPG

Yeah so males in the house and in the FLOWER room for the last 3 weeks.... right beside all the big ripe ladies! Probably explains all the new pistols!!

I wait until the ball sacs drop out from the stems then, chop. Man that has to hurt... I threatened the last plant going into flower if she grows balls I'm going to burn her in a fire..... I said it in a kind way with soft tones.. pretty little girl, balls go in the fire.

Here's some more pics I took after changing the lighting:

Citrus Berry that was flowered under COB lighting... you can't tell here but those 2 main colas are easily 20" long. I might have to get a tape measure out! They are huge... and both of the Citrus Berry plants that grew under the COBs are like that, the other 2 are 3' bushes. Not complaining but the difference in height alone is substantially in favor of COB lighting.

I broke the top thats tied up ... hit it on the ceiling when I moved her ... she was getting too tall for the COB she was sitting under and I had the lights up as high as I could go.

DSCN22816.JPG

Here's the other Citrus Berry grown under COBs - she's tall as well.

DSCN22745.JPG

Chendawg the Big clone from Chemdawg the Tall clone from Chemdawg the Purple from last year. So clone of a clone of a clone.. this one is actually turning purple already. Some fan leaves were purple this morning.

There was another clone that went into flower in there somewhere that was nothing special...

The original plant; Chemdawg the Purple was from 1 seed I took out of a 10 pack of reg seeds from Humboldt...just got lucky, got a purple female pheno. She lives on and cloned again! Already tied and staked up with more roping coming. Going to get in there with some trimmers and thin her out in the middle and take more clones!

Can see the VERO 29 V7 there on the upper left, the COB from Amare that has CXB3070's but tighter spread than the VERO COB arrays. My VEROs are from TImber Grow lights so shout out to Dan @ Timber for building these lamps for me. I'm getting some more! Timber rocks. I cut off the Timber tree logo and stuck it on my pickup truck window!

DSCN22754.JPG

Here's Chemdawg the Big's twin sister, just put her into flower yesterday during the lighting change. Staked but not roped yet. She will need some thinning ... I don't like the idea of thinning a plant in flower but I'm worried about mold later on down the road. Chemdawg is medium resistance to PM/mold so need to IPM for that, thin and get the air moving.

Wow! Those citrus berry colors are out of this world. Nice to see the side by side of them too. The COB nugs look much denser thats for sure.
I need to email Dan @ timber to see about upgrading my light. I have enough room on my driver to add another 2 3590's and seeing results like yours tells me that email needs to be sooner than later.

Man those look amazing its pics and posts like this tht make me wana drop my whole check on getting cob lights lol since i need to add another light to my flower tent anyway an if my fan shows up by then i was thinkn about getting sum timber gear but how wud i set them up with buying a frame do u need it or can u jus hang the cobs individually? If not then ill have to start alil jar n keep putting money in it till i can get enuf for both the cobs and the frame

With out buying a frame i meant lol sry kinda high rite now

Well I did the math... IF buying from Timber getting it built with a frame ready to go out of the box .... FOR ME is the most cost effective. There's other kits out there that have everything but the frame for less.

Here's a link:

VERO29 Triple COB Array Kit

This kit is less coin ... for folks on a budget but it's smaller footprint. If I bought that kit I'd get different heat sinks and go to home depot and build a frame the same and Timber and build myself a linear array .... but you can look at that kit and purchase all those parts online .... Mouser has everything you need sans the frame but you need stuff that you might not know you need.

So study that Rapidled kit and then you can source the parts sans the fan and heat sink.... and get different heat sinks and build it. I can build just about anything if I put my mind to it.. but it gets down to time. My time is valuable to me so if it costs me a few hundy to have Timber build it... I'm good with that.
I have an electronics lab here at home and projects I haven't gotten to.. so priority and time. This time of year its gardening full time. I can see trimming as a part time job here in a few days....

Nice and frosty..:thumb:.. looks like a nice yeild too... You have a favorite Citrus Berry yet?

Not yet.. tho they all look very similar as far as pheno.. which is a nice surprise from Exotic.. I'm used to 3-4 different pheno's but this round they are very close or the same all 4 plants. I haven't tested any buds yet... still testing Devils Tit which is blowing me away.... 3 nights now don't remember going to bed and getting a great nights sleep and waking up in the AM with an elevated heart rate! .. That could be a sign that weed is a daytime med!

Yah the yields on the 2 plants that were under the COBs is going to confirm I made the right choice moving all the COBs into the flower room.

I was a tad warm in there today tho .. temps @ 90F in the top of the flower room. Thinking maybe I wanna get the next array with the power supply not in with the plants like it is now. The power supply case was pretty warm today all of them. I adjusted my fans to blow on the lamps and gonna need to go to HD and get a few more fans tomorrow since its going to be pretty hot tomorrow.

Hey Mister BBrown.. I don't keep up on my journals as well as I should.. But I seen you post some pics of that Devils Tit. She was showing them nannas huh? You know you grew a plant to the max when that happens.. Built in survival tactics for alot of strains. And I love the Hairy One. You should see my picture on Yahoo under north_cal_wood@yahoo.com... I have ALOT less hair now still a hippy. But I use to do a good cousin It' in my day. Keepem Green

Wen fem seeds produce those naners is tht what female pollen comes out of jus wondering and how do u get females to produce seed with out colloidal silver jus let them live longer?? Or am i wrong

Just ordered up some Horsetail, temps have spiked here as well. I love when I do a search on the big "G" for Horsetail tea and Keltic and Bo both show up in the results. Can't thank you guys enough for your knowledge, thanks even more for sharing it!

Thats whats so great about this site. Most of the members I enjoy following are about double my age. You guys have the best stories, and have real world knowledge that most people my age could care less about. I'm quite new to growing and smoking again after taking 10 yrs off for Mil service. It bums me out to think how much information has been hidden away for years because its "illegal" Sure would be a pleasure to share a joint with you guys, I could sit back for hours and listen to your gardening stories.

Hey there Woody.. yeah had 1 nanner, didn't even see it till I posted the bud porn pic in the bud porn thread! hahaha I got one seed from 3 plants..

I'm like aw nice fem seed from my favorite pheno... ( have clones too) ... put it in dish and was waiting for it to dry a little bit before I put it in my seed stash drawer... some freaking mouse got up on the table where the seed was and ate the seed.

I can't find that freaking mouse either.... I set out traps usually 5 minutes and bang ... my trapping skills are shit for this one. He outsmarted me 2x now.

Cousin It... wow had a flashback there bro... that's going to be something not too many people know about me thinks.

Man we used to sit down after school with a box of those little Reeses peanut butter cups and whatch the Adams Family and Gilligan's Island.... and dream about smuggling weed from Hawaii. Little did I know it was actually happening and prolly at the same time - mid 60s.

Yes you can let the plant go past her prime time for harvest and she will eventually throw out nanners ... what you can do then is pluck them off carefully with tweezers (they don't have a lot of pollen) save them and then next run paint with a small paint brush a few lower down buds and the seed from that will be FEM 100%. Doesn't always happen after prime time for harvest.. those Devils Tit plants finished in 45-50 days ....

Also every once it a while a plant will throw out a nanner WAY down low where the LAF buds are and pollinate those little LAF buds ONLY... they will also be FEM seeds 100%.

I see this nanner thing and a few seeds from a lot of hybrids or poly hybrids...not sure of the vigor of the plants grown from those seeds. Science says copy of mom's genetics so should be same as taking clones with out the longer VEG time.

Colloidal silver... ouch... why I don't buy a lot of fem seeds. Actually I stopped buying FEM seeds a long time ago.

I prefer the stress of males and females and selecting for flower room. When I'm doing the "selecting" ... I'm usually wishing I ran fem seeds but after the dust settles I'm happy with the choices. I think REG seed plants have the most vigor. A lot of good things come from that ... plant health and ability to BETTER fight off pests and diseases.. but that's just me.

I've ran REG seeds and FEM seeds at the same time, select for best plants to go into flower and I never picked a FEM seed plant before a REG seed plant. I'm probably not the only person that thinks so.

. . .

Man we used to sit down after school with a box of those little Reeses peanut butter cups and whatch the Adams Family and Gilligan's Island.... and dream about smuggling weed from Hawaii. Little did I know it was actually happening and prolly at the same time - mid 60s.

true stories separated by a decade or so. I remember my older brother coming 'back east' from 'Kali' in the early 80z with an oz of bright green his buddy brought back from Hawaii. One hit wonders. I started my first outdoor grow the next summer if I only knew then.

Anyone with time for question? About a gem throwing nanner at beginning of flower, with a fem. seed. I did see it at the time and triple checked for leaks and re-righted the in take fans areas. The pistil soon were hiding any banners so I let it go. I didn't see any others in buds like ya do with a herm. This is no complaints about the strain pck x kc. In fact it smells tastes betters and is stronger than my last effort with it.

So my hunch at at the time and now is my cobs were to bright for my space and my topping may have caused a stressed induced pollen sac at the beginning of flowers. Should have vegged one more week after top.

So so the question becomes are these seeds female? With a lower stress point? If that is the case and I can keep my hands off them will growing they should be all female. It is me who screws the plants. The strain is very stable even under my pizz poor controls. I abused this plant.

Here is is a picture after chop. You can see them up near the stem. I have maybe 10 seeds total so far.

I am mostly curious if there is a name/situation for a female to nanny early. Probably my fault. Gonna grow em anyway should be my new name.
