Cottage 420's Organic Perpetual Indoor Garden

I wanna know how you get a 5' plant in your tent.. They sure must be able to get close to them lights without burning. I know it woodn't fly with a HID light. I think if I didn't have the 8' ceilings, I'd be using them LEDs in tents.. I've never tried one myself.. I hear ya on the R/H... Are you close enough.. she's looks real close.. I wood hate to see rott on them pretty girls.. what R//H are you at? GL and Keepem Green

Yeah Woodie... 3" from the lamps, no burn. Serious... might even be closer. Touching will burn for sure. I used to run HID... hotter... plants
bigger, more risk. Balancing act for sure. I switched to LED because I go away during the summer time.

Here you can sorta see the top cola at the lights... Those lamps are hung on the rafters... @ 6' - plant tops are at my eye level or a tad taller (I'm close to 6' tall) .. so 12" pot 5' ish plant & into the lights they grow.

I grew one time with HID while I was away for a week and stressed the whole time. That was it and I changed to LEDs so we can go automated. I ran Black Dog last summer, was away for 6 weeks of the flower cycle and came home to monsters with LED. That was it for me.

I have some more Black Dog...

I decided to harvest the Devils Tit #1 - yesterday. I freaked out when the ourdoor temps were in the 70s and it was looking like thunderstorms in the AM yesterday with RH way high.. it was only that way for a few hours thanks God. I have fans on the harvest while its hanging.

I took down:

Devils Tit #1 @ 65 days I think..

The Future - Clone @ 45 days - she was trying to flower in VEG so got off to a very fast start.

Chemdawg Clone @ 46 days - she was also trying to flower in VEG. So both clones took longer in VEG but shorter in flower.

Yields on the Clones are not big... maybe 2.5 zips dried for each one.

Replacements are:

Chemdawg Purps Clone - she is already 5' tall ... stretched to the lamps in 3 days... hopefully since shes a clone that's it for the stretch.
Her mom was pretty big and tall. This one is a huge bush. Already flowering.

Exotic Genetix - Labyrinth #1 - Spirit in the Sky X The Cube, Indica 60/40 THC: 22-26% Flower Cycle: 56 days

Exotic Genetix - Labyrinth #2

So 3 new girls in the flower room. This run I have some winners and a few so so's finishing up. All good meds that for sure but my yields are off due to my tardiness at the begining of this round. The previous round finished in under 60 days and I was not prepared and had to throw some shorties in FLOWER.

I chose wisely with the Devils Tit. Those were Sativa dom hybrids, so they stretched X3... to some nice large skirted tall ladies. Very impressed and glad I took clones. Haven't tested any buddage yet... a little scared really. I've been vaping mainly Indica dom poly hybrids lately so a more relaxed feel. Sativa will likely be daytime run laps around the yard weed.

:jawdropper::drool: gorgeous buds!

Thanks there buddy... love your nic... Farming in the bedroom. Takes a special touch! :thumb:

Running out of superlatives for your beautiful buds & photography bob. Man that DT1 has it all....crunchy frost & amazing colors. Don't know if I care for "white knuckles" anymore though. Great gardening. :Namaste:

Hey there BL - thanks for kind words again! I know what you mean. I've grown straight up Sativa and yeah it gets a little rippy... but hey, maybe a good 2 week cure will tame her down a little. or prolly not!

I wanted some good make me wanna go out and garden buzz... lots of extra light outside this time of year, and I've got a lot of outdoors work to do. Help my wife in the flower beds.

I challenged her last year .. my flowers go 80 days .... how long do yours bloom?

She kicked my ass with Hydrangea Paniculata (a version of Hydrangea) - she kicked my ass but good .. flowers went at least 6 months. Only reason they came down was roofers roofing our home stepped on them, and that was in February.. those buds were still there, it was amazing. Wife got a promotion to chief bottle washer, I resigned my position. hahahahaha Passed the baton with hopes to get revenge!

Revenge, a plate best served .....wait for it.... GREEN and PURPLE ...

Hey hon.. don't get comfortable in your new position! just sayin... and I want my old job back.

Wow bob that looks really good just caught up on your journal very good stuff man

Welcome JC... thanks for the props.. I love gardening... and more than glad to share everything I know. I could write it all down with a coloring book and crayons. :thumb:

Thanks bo! I honestly think I couldn't sleep if my grow wasn't there. Even when I move out and get a grow space I'll have to have something growing in my room or maybe just have an air pump running. Lol. The last time I didn't have a grow I couldn't sleeep. I guess I got used to the white noise it creates.

Man your plants are looking excellent! Can't wait for a review on that devils tit!

Hey Bo, I noticed you keep the reflectors on your timbers, do you notice better results? I took mine off since I'm in such a small grow space 2x2x5.5. Wondering which is better?

Beautiful to see those girls growing right up into the lights! Wish I had that kind of height.

yea I'm wondering as well since i have a same size tent and i just got a 1200w cob light to put in my tent so i jus hope it has some gud penetration and does better then my vipraspecter 600w but yea about how high do u hang ur light and what size one do u got??

Hi All.
I was just re reading my email with Dan from Timber He suggested that if running close to the canopy, like i do in my tiny space, to run with the reflectors off for a better spread of photons. My grow tent is very small so I get reflection off the walls and such.
Cheers!

Awesome Keltic! Just what I was looking for.

Wow! After reading the majority of this thread I am sold on live organic soils, teas, and letting the soil grow my plant. I started off looking at hydro/dwc, then supersoils, then HB, but now I think this is where the path to quality has lead me. I think I am home lol. I am researching and planning my medium, tents, lights, etc. I am going to do things right from the start. I have a few questions though.

Could I mix up the base, and then start the soil in 6 x 10 gallon pots, get the processes going? With a 1 gallon pot buried in the centre to keep a spot open for future transplants, and plant a thin surface plant around it to act as a house sitter? Maybe a few layers of leaves or other organics in the pots I won't use for a long while? Worms in them? Then when I need fresh soil or a new home for a smaller plant I will have an existing happy soil ecosystem. At least thats my theory after blazing a doob lol. Essentially I will have individual soil ecosystems always ready, I dont have outdoor space for composts or large batches of new soil.

I am only going to be allowed 4 plants, I figure 1 clone/seed, 2 veg (1 mother), and one in the flower room in a 10g pot to get some girth/size/yield.

I want quality. Not quantity, but I wanna be smart about keeping the soil happy and ready for action. I have been taking some great notes from you guys here, so thank you for that.

Also some of the best looking buds and colas I have ever seen in this thread. Major kudos to you! Loving the perpetual grow.

hey bb i was just wondering about the malted grains can i add those to my teas for my girls in veg or shud i just keep it to my flower girls jus wondering how often i shud use them n if its ok to use em in veg plz n thanx for the info brotha n member keep it green and stay frosty my friend :Namaste:

oh yea i almost forgot to let u no tht my early vixen i have in flower is already starting to put out sum frost an if i member right last time she didn't start getting frost till after the buds where already a decent size this round with the malted grains added in its starting the frost way earlier so yea I'm def. glad i took ur advice and added the malted grains to my feeding regime

Hi bobrown :ciao:

I thought i would drop a bit of the story on how I came to change my diet. It all started about 15 years ago. My wife had severe plaque psoriasis, she was depressed, borderline suicidal. She found a doctor (on the internet) who took some samples and came back with you have a yeast overgrowth and I can cure you with herbs and natural remedies. She had been going to 'western' docs for years and diet never entered into it. So the theory was the yeast and the sugar were fermenting causing the immune system to over act causing the itchy red and sometimes dark red to black skin inflammation. There is way more to it than that "readers digest" version.

The 'cure' is a big word. It lasts as long as you mind your diet. Candida yeast is natural and not a problem as long as it doesn't enter overgrowth stage, like when it gets feed sugar. It can change the PH around itself when it overgrows to perpetuate its own growth.

All this sounds a lot like soil biology!

So it recurs. The wifey likes a glass of red wine, good lowest in sugar red wine. Not a problem but things happen other sugars find their back in and it will recur. So about 7 years ago. she found this book "the ultimate Candida diet" and it was the same thing the doctor had her do.
So this is her third time going through this diet. This time, in sympathy with me.

It is hard not an easy thing that first week. The book helps with recipes. I am glad she found the book. Her first time through with out the book was hard.

Sorry to hijack your thread:oops::sorry:

But when I started this diet I thought/remembered hey bobrown lives sugar free. So I knew you would understand all that goes into the diet.

For now fruits are out, they get reintroduced later. Right now it is protein; fish chicken turkey, green veggies, ancient grains gluten free, etc. The chicory coffee can get some almond/coconut milk for creamer. I am trying for perfection but I am hopefully at less than a gram of sugar per week. All of it unintended. Coffee is going to be re-introduced soon which is ok I can drink it black or with coconut milk.

Cheers BB, I got to get back to some post harvest duties, busy day for me.

I've go several of the Timber lamps, I use the reflectors or whatever they are called on all of them. Reason is the hanging height of the lamps is head high or slightly taller than head high so the light shines in my eyes and I can't see anything. Put those little reflectors on and I can see A LOT better.

As far as results.. couldn't say. I'm sure you could email Dan @ Timber he's very knowledgeable regarding lighting. Sorry I don't have more for ya.

For height if you select seeds or cuts of hybrid plants that have greater than or equal say 40% sativa, you will get a decent stretch. Of course the longer you VEG the taller the plants as well.

Last round I was caught not well prepared in my VEG Room and had to throw the DT plants into flower @ 25 days VEG or thereabouts... mostly sativa and they tripled in stretch.

This round I'm ahead in VEG and going to have some even bigger monsters..I have one already in flower. I haven't taken a pic of her yet. Chemdawg clone she's 6' tall and barely any flowers and is a HUGE bush. She doubled stretch and just slowed down to flower yesterday.... I'll have pics of here up maybe tonight!

I harvested 3 plants and going to harvest DT #2 here maybe today or tomorrow... Then we will start selecting the next round from the Exotic Labyrinth VEG plants I've got going. Looks like we have 4 phenos... and I can't sex them. Not being able to sex them and they are 40-45 days old, is kinda frustrating. I had the same issues with some of her relatives (Starfighter breeding) where the sex doesn't show until balls are almost open over night! yikes....

More to come...

Oh yeah, another thought about reflectors. If you do foliar sprays I would think they would help protect the COBs. I dunno.

I did a hold the paper test under them when I built them. Sort of simplified reference test. I should add a lux meter test from my phone. Just for fun.......

Here it is with the reflector, Then I slide it over under a COB with out a reflector. then lower until it diffuses under the reflector.

Thats quite impressive those DT's only had 25 days Veg!

I had used the reflectors for about the first 20 days or so and just recently took them off. Noticing lower buds are starting to fatten up nicely.I'd like to think its because they are getting some more lumens.

@keltic - Completely forgot about the paper tests you had done, thanks for reminding me

Intresting how far and fast LEDs have come. Back when I don't know but first heard that thing about NASA using them in space, the led market was total shit but they did work. I think that was before even triband/color? as they say. Them UFO's even them oldest ones can grow a plant. LOL I once thought about investing in a whole pallet of them ones from China when the cheapest ones were what 2,000$. But I do see alot of these 'Newer' ones have very few points of light, what like 9 lights on a 4X4 and are getting max light in the sweet spot. I hear they can go for a good piece of change damn near the price of a hoopty.
It is cool you don't lose alot of space to that hot zone. And looks like your hitting close to the limit. It's going to be instresting to try one out. I've really been thinking of it for awhile. Hope everythings going great in the gardens. Man you been nailing it spot on... Keepem Green

Very nice work bob. I run basically the same coot mix in 10g root pouch pots. i love my living organic soil & will NEVER go back to the bottles.

Nice...:thumb:

For me same thing. Why go back? It's kinda funny really since using bottled nutes is new to horticulture, and organic soil is the way its been long before humans. So going organic soil is really going back I think, back to the soil.

Soil: THE thing that keeps us alive.

thanks for stopping by, I hope you hang around here and watch my mahem. CC/LD, that gut really got me focused on soil building for cannabis growing. At some point when I first got started doing this seriously, I got drawn into the fancy labels and all that jazz... realized that I do not want to be fussing with plants and chemicals EVERY DAY. Seems the less I mess the better my results.
