Cottage 420's Organic Perpetual Indoor Garden

Hello - all our products are custom builds - if you would like to mount your drivers remotely to mitigate heat in the growing area, that is no problem. We are happy to customize the length of the wire leads from the COBs to the power supply to help with this. There of course is no additional charge - just let us know what your requirements are. If you need anything else, please feel free to let me know.

Regards,
Dan
I was just researching your lights and thinking about getting some to fill a 4x4 tent. I'm replacing a 1000 w hps that often had to be dimmed to 75% because of heat issues. I understand your cobs can also be dimmed. I'm just not sure how 600w of cobs will be enough to fill my area. Would love to compare the efficiency of them I've seen good things on sweet sues journal!

With COBs you also have to consider that you have 12 point sources of light versus one with your HID so you eliminate shadows and unshaded areas on your plants, so that's a huge added benefit. If you are running around 750 watts of HID in your 4x4 then I think you will be able to run the 600 watt COB setup full blast with no problem. When you are understanding how much light you need to fill your area then what you need to be concerned with is not watts, but PPFD. Timber has actually taken the time to calculate your PPFD and designed their lights to provide around the most PPFD your plants can use without CO2 supplementation. Any amount of light beyond maximum usable PPFD is wasted energy.

Great info.. I've noticed a HUGE increase in lower down frost with this first round with Timber lamps. I'm only running 1 300 watt Vero29 beside another companies gear (both COBs) and am getting pretty good penetration all the way down to soil level. I have the other Timber in my VEG room and it's kicking it in there as well.

Love these lamps... the heat is actually not an issue for me. The power supplies are running pretty cool for now even with flower room temps in the mid 80s F ... so far so good for me. I'm results oriented so doesn't matter what lamps I'm running, I want results. We are getting that with Timber Vero29 COBs.

So getting going here with the early spring run. Yesterday and today are the times to transplant or plant new seeds following the moon cycles. We do a fair amount of outdoor gardening so using the lunar phases to plant by is important. I've been loosely using that as a guide for the indoor gardens as well. I'm tightening up that schedule for indoors and am following closely the lunar cycles this round.

I've been reading a book written by Bohdi Moon and she's an advocate for the lunar cycles and pretty much challenged me in her book to grow the best I can and I'm going to do a little more work and follow the moon cycles more closely and see if there's more to it. My wife is all over it and all it took was a suggestion and a calendar with times best to plant. Needless to say we planted a shit ton of seeds outdoors yesterday and my wife asked me to amend the soil for her! Woot... finally... I've been doing that secretly.

Mini update...

Now that I have some pretty ladies, I'm going to be walking them down the Green Runway... they love the attention.

So I've got 3 plants ready for harvest or close about a week out... give or take. Been making Malted Grain teas and compost teas.

The compost teas get the girls in VEG going big time.. now I'm running out of room in VEG .. the way its supposed to be. I got complacent in the winter time over the holidaze and just wasn't very productive in the gardens. That's all changed.

We planted a bunch of early veggies in the outdoor garden... prepped several beds, we build 2 more large raised beds and hooped them for possible late frost/snow. I wish I could grow canna there but that attracts the wrong type of attention around these parts.

I mixed up about 5 cubic feet of fresh Coots Mix soil... its in the yard under a tarp... going to inoculate that with some compost tea.

The soil recipe I use I posted 2 or 3 pages back, it's what I've been using for several years. The only thing that changes in my mix is the type of compost I use. I much prefer to use my own vermi-compost. I've got 165 gallons ... it's not ready yet. We are working on another 80gal compost container ... the 165 gal container wont be ready until May probably. Worms need to finish what they started but are dormant right now.

We have a shit ton of seedlings for outdoor veggies and flowers going indoors. I also have the late spring Canna seedlings going right now. The late spring run will be Labyrinth from Exotic. I got 10 reg seeds and 10 popped and all are transplanted and growing great.

So late spring run: Labyrinth = Spirit In The Sky x The Cube.

The Cube is Starfighter backed and backed again and again - whatever it takes to get "Cubed". Exotic Genetics gear... I've been very happy with all the Starfighter strains I've ran so a cubed version should be even better.

I always have a gaggle or 2 of Chemdawg .. right now I've got Chemdawg purps clones, Chemdawg Tall clones and another few from seed from humboldt Seeds version of Chemdawg all in VEG now.

Here's some pics from yesterday:

Lets see what they can do. Got my pruners handy... not feeling this one... but the purps are calling me.

Rabbit berries there in the soil... just transplanted and added in the rabbit poop. That shit is amazing...

Just driving bye,,, I never could read cept Evelyn Wood's shit,,, but seen the rabbit crap, good idea local sourcing some amendments. It is a good source of alot goodies.. I've never had a rabbit. or it's castings around so the little I know is dangerous. I imagine you did alittle leg work about whats in her as dosing. I know too much chicken shit will fry plants, and fast, especially after watering in a top dressing of damn near straight chicken shit.. Soaked it good... These was big girls, alot of them,, then the sun came out, high, for damn near a week we had 100 degrees or close temps.. I use to mix some big batchs for the river bottom lands back home. I know compost it,, but I sure killed acouple back then.
That one expressing purple allready, to much phous? I know alitte problems with it cause alot of purple stemage, and underside of leaf to purple out. Or else you'll have a hella pretty colors.. Did ya take a cut? Ya never know.
Hey you got some good shit happening here..GL and Keepem Green

All them words from me,,,,,must have put ya in shock... Naw,, I hope,,, Keepem Green

Naw bro all good... rabbit shit you can put in a bucket and grow plants in it.. straight up.. haven't tried it yet tho.. Lemme know how it turns out! hahahaha Rabbit poop straight up is 1-1-1 NPK deal. They eat alfalfa so we get bacteria and alfalfa castings... top dress with it, thank me later...there's a bunch of peeps growing rabbits close to you, trust me they are everywhere. Rabbit stew.. tasty too... just sayin.

Sorry to say that purple Citrus Berry plant just started in flower jagged edges ... looked like he/she had balls and flowers. Had to toss. Chop n Drop.. easy goes, took me a second. Saw male and female bits..weird. Easy come easy go. mmmm bye bye. Adiós amigos/la nena.

I'm fighting some Borg (mites) right now... shit happens been gardening outdoors and boom they're back like a bad rash. Not too bad I'm on a warpath.. actually they showed up about a week after I got some Lavender plants in the mail from Oregon. Maybe they hitched a ride in the shipping box is my bet. I hate fucking Borg... I hate fucking Borg.. i hate fucking Borg. Neem to the rescue.. again.

My fault got even lazier and wasn't doing my IPM regular like I'm always preaching. Like I forgot we have had pests before and I'm a newb. What was I thinking. I'm thinking, slacking... and puffing ... maybe not enough of one and too much of the other?

Thanks for the kind words bro.. it's all the same for me as far as hard or easy to grow. Some plants like more of this and less of that.

If I have my soil dialed in, its all good.

Sometimes I don't have it 100% but the trick is to notice B-4 it becomes an issue. Take a look at The Future #1 - she was yellowing big time there for a few days early in flower... She's getting back to green but I can't get that time back when she wasn't firing on all cylinders. Its all good tho ... it's all a balancing act. The plant will reward me with something special. Could be major terpines or off the charts THC content.. or GREAT taste. It will be something and it's always a surprise. I'm totally good with that.

I would prefer a balanced end result with everything in spades. But doesn't always happen in organic soil.

Nature has a way of throwing up some curve balls. Right now for me it's mold and spider mites.

Yeah couldn't get any worse really but thanks God I know what that shit looks like before its an issue.

Brewed me up some #508 Horsetail Fern tea for the PM and already got the mites good .. topped those suckers off with a cold 20 hrs 62-65F to be sure I got em all, and neem oil.

For anyone wondering what "#508" is above ... it's from Rudolf Steiner's tea recipes. Steiner is probably the father of modern organic farming. They even give it a name - Biodynamic Farming... Its a little organic nazi, even for me but this is coming from a time before electricity and a bad growing season could = famine and starvation. They got pretty serious about composting and all that jazz. I read it and take away some of it for modern day farming. I mean they do the hokey-pokey and shake it all about then add amendments and such. Sorta kinda like religion... but with soil.

I do it the other way.. add the amendments, grow the plants and harvest ... then we do the Hokey Pokey and shake it all about!

Steiner on the special teas for growing link - interesting how the old timers used to do it.. lots of this stuff is pertinent for today for sure:

Hello bob! I got my tea brewing. I put some poppy seeds meal and alfalfa together with dates for sugar and fresh nettles and forest soil are going in next. I want to make me some perpetually bubbling pond of microbial activity. Anyway you keep up the good work! :thumb:  :Namaste:

"The BD 501 preparation (horn-silica) is made from powdered quartz (packed inside a cow horn and buried in the soil for six months through spring and summer) and applied as a foliar spray to stimulate and regulate growth."

Interesting.

Far Out Stuff. :geek:

Yeah buddy... that was how they rolled way way back in the day. Kinda crazy ... them damn hippies... I can hear my mom sayin that right now... Oh wait... that was back when my mom was young ....

Pretty cool shit... cow horn.. make the plants horny! hahahahaha Whatever works right? :thumb:

Yeah pretty much everything they did back then, bury in the ground for 6 months... after that good to go!

I bet they learnt that from my dog.

Give him a bone... walks outside, buries it ... check every day for 6 months.
Then dig up and eat.. problems solved.
And get pissed cause he gets a bath. Go figure.

I think its pretty cool to read how the organic farmers were doing it back then. It had to come from tradition and a mix of "new" science. Get the ball rolling into the modern era. Funny tho at the same time BigAg was getting started and these people were against man made fertilizers.

I'm glad they documented how it was done for say hundreds/thousands of years...so that we can use what worked. Gotta remember it was life and death by starvation if crop fails.

Update time:

Spring run is starting to green up and some girls and ladies are starting to do their thing...

I'm singing in my garden to my girls:

"I like to do my thing
I like to do my thing
I like to do my thing
I like to do my thing"

Keith Frank

Ok so I was slaking over the holidaze and sorta kinda forgot that plants grow and get harvested. I slacked off for a month there and didn't pop any seeds just took clones. The clones took FOREVER to get going = down time in flower. Ooppsie... all good, we are back on track.

Gotta a full house in flower and even fuller house in VEG. Something I got back to in VEG to promote growth is adding in some Rabbit berries to my soil mix at transplant. It's working... all the little ones are now big and out growing containers. So it's harvest time for a few ladies and move the big girls into flower.

I've already done a few moves and harvested a few .. I'm in the last week or so maybe even tomorrow harvest The Future. I've got 3 of them ready to chop. Already put 4 Snow High - Devils Tit into flower and they are taking off big time. I have I think 2 Citrus Berry plants in flower (3 or 4 still in VEG) and they are taking off as well.

Whats coming down the stretch is 3 of The Future and 1 more Chemdawg.

Here we go..

The Future #2 these could be harvested anytime... missing The Future # 1 (I couldn't get close enough to take a pic).

IMG_340113.JPG

IMG_339616.JPG

Chemdawg - she's ready too... probably will do some harvesting tomorrow. I had to spray all the ladies with just some water and a little coconut water mixed it... a rinse. Did a bud test last night and a they tasted a little too muck like neem to me. I know a cure will tco that but I thought it a good idea to rinse them now wait a day or 2 and likely do a bud wash on these.

Not worried about pm/mold, the horsetail fern tea took care of that. I've been looking in the loop @ 800 magnification and I can see the spores but no PM growth. I'm happy about that for sure.

Chemdawg - she's done

IMG_33998.JPG

The Future #3 - this plant is a different pheno that #2 and the same as #1. Not a big yielder but she's covered in white front top to btm.

IMG_339116.JPG

The Future #3 - she's done

IMG_339016.JPG

So that's the 4 that are going to be harvested likely tomorrow at lights on. No pic of The Future #1...

So the next mini round is getting started. Devils Tit from SnowHigh seeds.

Devils Tit = Durban Poison female x (Acapulco Gold x C99)male. Supposedly this is the old Durban Poison from Mendocino Co. from the 70s. Couldn't say if thats true, I have no idea. I was around in the 70s and never got my hands on any Durban... Acapulco Gold yes indeed. Let see what these ladies can do.

I took some cuttings this time. These plants are SUPER healthy looking. BIG huge thin fan leaves .. starting to see a touch of yellow after the stretch so I'm going to make up some alfalfa tea and mix in some kelp meal. Give the ladies a little treat for kicking ass so good!

Devils Tit - looks like a very very stable strain. I've only got 1 pheno and got 4 females out of 5 reg seeds. Nice..

Devils Tit #2 - Just start to to flower.

IMG_339415.JPG

Devils Tit #2 again... nice big leaves. Much bigger than my hand for sure.

IMG_339317.JPG

Devils Tit #1 - she was the first in flower and is about 3 days in showing some flowers. No smell yet but after lights out someone in there is stinking up the place. Usually its Chemdawg smelling like our gas is leaking... sheesh. Sorry for the crappy pic.... I was trying my wife's camera last night.

IMG_339218.JPG

Devils Tit #3 - she's just into the flower room and starting stretch.
No pic of her... hmmm, deleted pic due to focus thing... more to come.

Citrus Berry... she looks a lot like Devils Tit but she's got some weird leaf growth there ... I think that's from all the Neem oil I sprayed around the flower room for mites. Good news no mites for the last week and a half so I'm going to harvest and spray some more. Those little fellas are freaking relentless. They come out of no where.

IMG_338912.JPG

Anyone ever see leaf growth like this before?? Please leeme know ... I'm not a big fan of wasting my time ... well on growing plants that is!

IMG_338813.JPG

group shot....

Devils Tit #1 #2 & #3 front right, back right and back left. Citrus Berry front left ... and the flower girl on the right is The Future #3. The Future ... yeah nice looking set of buds but she's not heavy. I didn't have to cage her up .... test buds tasted like shit but the meds are very promising... extremely promising. I hope I can wash off that Neem flavor!

IMG_338718.JPG

Here's a far out shot of the VEG room.... getting a little busy in there. Time to chop and promote some girls.

I've already got another Devils Tit promoted to the flower room not pictured. As soon as I added the Timber Vero 29 lamp into the VEG room @ maybe 1/2 power, the plants took off...

IMG_338516.JPG

Well bob, gotta say I'm impressed. I like how you do your thing. The trichs are up the roof! :bravo:

I want to double my size of the pots (making them higher) after seeing how much potential the girls have in more soil. I mean more roots= more fruits plus I can add perlite/gravel/rock dust into my soil. Also this Herer's mix was pretty weak in fresh compost, so lacking some of the activity of the fresh one. I gotta dig deeper into this soil building, but my schedule is busy.
And I was thinking about pot size and shape. I think wide and low is not as efficient as tall and narrow. I also think the pots should be made like a pyramid so the most of the space is at the bottom. What you think? I had some of My Shark and it makes me go!

 :Namaste:

Leaves with a missing middle finger, and half missing leaves flanking it?

Nope, never seen anything like it!

I've been wondering for a year or so - How many girls does it take for you to have a full house in Flower?
